  1. Merry Christmas to all. I am concerned that
CNN is not doing a live hour of news in prime
time since a guy try to set an explosive on a
plane. This is a BIG story get off the tape.

  2. Beautiful graphic. You should keep it up until the New Year.

  3. Anon 6:26 in fairness to CNN TJ and Kate
Bouldan were constantly updating the news.
In fact, Bouldan broke the news about the
explosive device. They could have been live
a whole lot more but they probably had to
get people in place. Ali is doing a great job.
In fact Ali, Kate and TJ deserve congrats.

  4. I think her last name is actually spelled as
Bolduan. She is a solid reporter now that
Elaine Quijano is leaving maybe she will
move up. I agree about TJ Holmes and
Kate Bolduan.CNN had the best coverage
hands down. According to TVN they broke
the story. I just wonder will management
let the younger anchors and reporters get
more air time. Bolduan, Holmes and Ali
    proved themselves.

  5. CNN is getting a lot of praise on Twitter
for it's foiled terror attempt coverage. This
is something that CNN is getting right and
I hope that this is remembered during the
news awards. Kudos to all of the people
    at CNN involved.

  6. @9:26AM: "In all fairness" to the websites that GAVE CNN the story, just because you put it on air first, does NOT, mean you "broke" the story.
To brake a story means you actually go out an "investigate" the event. No anchor at CNN has "broken" a story since Katrina.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Drew Griffin is not too good at the anchoring
thing. Actually Kate Bolduan did break the
news about the explosive it was from a
document that she was reading on the air.
It did not cross the news wires I know
    because I was monitoring them.

  8. IMHO CNN has the best coverage hands down.
They have exclusive photos of the suspect and
the interview that Fredericka did with one of
the passengers that help take down the suspect
was incredible. Go Team CNN. This event is why
CNN should have one hour of world news 7 days
    a week.

  9. Will CNN be bringing in the big guns. Greta
will be live for 2 hours starting at 9.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The passenger who gave CNN the story and was hailed as the hero, broke the story in order to get on the air, as reported by no other than the Daily News. He is a video producer from Amsterdam.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The passenger spent 20 minutes in the bathroom, before the explosive incident. Now we will be "timed" when we go to the bathroom or checked before we enter the facility for security measures. Not a bad idea, but impossible to implement aboard a plane.

    ReplyDelete
  12. According to TVNewser, Fredricka Whitfield from CNN had an exclusive with the Dutch newsman who is being called the hero during the explosive incident. CNN acknowledged paying for the cellphone hook-up but other networks are now trying to interview him.
Is there another reality show in the works here?

  13. This proves that CNN needs to have a news
machine that works 24/7 365. News can
happen at any time or any place. One thing
old media had better realize is that the
revolution will not be televised the revolution
will be live. Take the photo that CNN obtained
from someone on the plane, it was done with
a cell phone the newest I-pod shoots video.
Also, how are those clashes of what is going
on in Iran getting out people are posting on
Youtube. One job that will be big for years
to come will be video producers. People who
would spend all day long searching the web
for breaking news.CNN must find the balance
to mesh old and new. This attempted terror
also shows the need for professional journos
who have their acts together.CNN needs to
start moving from opinion and politics and
    focus on news,story-telling and content.
Think about it 5 years ago people went to
tv news now they go to the web.CNN must
deal with this. CNN should set up a social
network for news and info junkies. In
universities you are taught to do journalism
on multiple platforms. Your use Twitter to
tighten up on writing skills. you learn to
shoot, write and edit your own material.
    CNN must incorporate the multi-platform
journalists as a part of their news staff.
cNN is letting the world pass them by.
Every news organization must expand their
management teams to include new media
    people. It is essential.

  14. CNN needs to get back in the 24/7 news
biz. There needs to be a live person on air
each hour even if it is just a for 10 minutes.
Real time news is something CNN needs to
get used to and find ways to get news out
over various platforms at once.As you get
updates on stories have you reporters on
air and you producers sending out the news
on tv, internet and social media at the same
time. This means CNN televsion, CNN.com
    Twitter/CNN brk. FaceBook status updates
    all at once.

  15. Sandy Crowley did very well hosting State of the Union today and I do hope she is recognized for it. I think she would do well as the regular anchor...let's try a female in this position for a change of pace.

  16. 2009 marked a turning point in the television
biz for the first time more people chose cable
over network television that means that there
are millions of more potential viewers. What
CNN needs to understand is that they must put
their world wide resources to use. It is being
wasted and only an event like the foiled terror
attempt seems to puts that in motion. Why is
this not possible on a daily basis.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I meant to say Candy Crowley in the post before the last.
I agree with the previous poster. CNN usually does do well when disaster strikes, but why or why does disaster have to strike before they do well??
    anon 5:33pm

    ReplyDelete
  18. Candy Crowley asked Homeland Security Secry. Napolitano, why we're always one step behind in defending ourselves against the terrorists? We react AFTER they do their next big thing. We have to be able to predict BEFORE the terror occurs and that's a very sound point.
She also pointed out that the security that was in place failed, to which Napolitano replied in politico lingo, "that everyone did what they were supposed to, in order to foil the attempt. No, that's not good enough.
A very smart debate ensued and I do hope Candy gets the job for State of the Union. She's up to it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I just hope in 2010 that CNN is more news
and better story selection. I think news
has to separate itself from the back and
forth between the political parties.I know
for a fact that there are way more important
news than what the pundits on the CNN
payroll think. I too think there is to much
taped programs on the news channels,
networks need to have more of a live and
current feel. Right now the internet wins
    that hands down.

    ReplyDelete
  20. CNN we are in the Information Age not the
    misinformation that has dominated cable
news for the last few years. Just give us the
news and not the endless talk we understand
because we can just Google it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Just read the great news about Candy Crowley on ATC. Let's hope Jon Klein does one smart thing this year and hires her without hesitation for State of the Union.
She's agressive and a delight to watch and is as good or better than any of the male contenders for the position.

    ReplyDelete
  22. CNN will do just as bad next year as they are
doing now. Why in the world is Rick Sanchez
even an anchor on a major network like CNN
    I am not watching the O'Reilly Factor I can;t
take this guy and I don't even like FNC but
this guy is really bad and MSNBC is on with
a Countdown year ender. I just have to tune
into Rachel. One thing for sure I won't be
    watching CNN.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why is CNN trying to turn the attempted
bombing aboard the plane into a political
story. This is an non=partisan issue.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Home come John Roberts did not sub for
Campbell tonight. I agree the 8pm hour
was bad I turned to Charlie Rose.I just
hope the suits saw how bad CNN looked
    for the hour.

    ReplyDelete
  25. In all fairness, the 8PM slot is tough going. It is opposite the highest rated show in cable news and name one anchor on CNN that could take on O'Reilly? Can't think of any right?
No, it shouldn't Rick Sanchez, but evidently he has an agressive agent.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It is wrong of the news outlets to show how the explosive agent was sewn into the "crotch" of the pants of the Nigerian terrorist. Is there any reason for this other than ratings??? Are we to assume everyone watching is "sane?"
    CNN in included.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 3 words will save CNN: under new management.
CNN just can't write off the 8 o'clock hour.It is
Jon Klein's job to find the answer. One thing is
certain for 360 it will be more of the same next
year, it is all about perspectives not the news.
Does anyone get that Klein has ruin CNN.I
don't think it is about Rick Sanchez's agent,
it is not like this guy is a hot property. Trust
me no other network will hire him.

    ReplyDelete
  28. CNN should have at least 3 women anchoring
a news show at 8. Diane Sawyer is a major game
changer. Having diverse rotating anchors would
be a hit, MSNBC outsmarted CNN by adding
Rachel Maddow who is in her 30's and says mind
over chatter. I think that motto has connected
with viewers. Sanchez would get worse ratings
than Campbell Brown. Maybe they could try
TJ Holmes as a sub anchor for Brown. Holmes
    is a 30-something with personality.It is hard
    not to like the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Unfortunately, I think they are not worried about
the ratings at CNN because TW is still making $$.
It is all about the money. CNN is a part of Turner
Broadcasting, take a look at the data on TV BY
The Numbers and that is just domestically,CNN
makes a ton of money by running ads on CNN,
    HLN and CNN I (worldwide).

Also, Warner Bros has just become the 1st movie
studio to make 2 billion dollars in a single year.
Warner Bros also distributes a lot of the
network shows they we all like : Two and a
half men is one, and throw HBO into the mix.
True Blood & Hung have made a ton of money
for HBO. There is also a lot of web properties
own by TIme Warner. There is the problem
with major companies sometimes, as long
as the money keeps rolling in they don't
care. But it is a shame that nothing is being
done about CNN.TW should try and have
    the best cable news channel.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Did you see the couple on 360 last night who
told Erica Hill there might be video. I wonder
who was recording the incident and how soon
the video will appear on YouTube.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Last night proves that Rick Sanchez can not
handle breaking news. Wake up call.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anon 7:27 I agree that Tj did a better
job at handling breaking news. Let's
face Jon Klein will never give TJ a shot.
I think Klein is just trying to justify a
    bad hire aka Rick Sanchez.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @8:06AM: CNN IS worried about ratings or they wouldn't send out PR messages from Jim Walton telling the staff how great everything is. Time Warner has other profitable interests, it is true, BUT, CNN is seen as a liability, and most CEO's will not let liabilites drag them down.
The alternate HLN was created to offset the liabilites of the CNN brand. CNNI doesn't have the potential CNN has.
Just look at FOX NEWS. It too, has other entities such as FOX broadcast network in prime with American Idol and it too, is making a ton of money.. and HBO has not shown a profit in quite some time.
Don't start believing everything you read, because a PR person, no doubt, wrote it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. @7:27am: Guess what? You got your wish. CNN has 3 women anchoring tonite and no Rick Sanchez and one of those talented women is Candy Crowley, in for LK.
