It is hard to speculate, as to whether Piers Morgan is closing the gap.
ReplyDeleteIn the demos, with Howard Stern, he seems to have taken hold and given 360 a stronger lead in, but it is only the first week and viewers will check in just out of curiousity. In totals he hasn't yet moved the dial consistently.
I miss Larry's style and manner and would rather not be required to make the adjustment to sit through and hour of one on one, with a personality I care little about....and I'm speaking of Piers.

comments from 1 congressman how about real
news like an IED, this is what the FBI calls it,
found along an MLK unity march route in Spokane.
Looking at Monday's numbers in full so far this
week, it is not that impressive.By Tuesday the
ratings for PMT were down 40 %. That means
Hannity and Maddow have more loyal viewers
who will tune in each night. If anything, it
highlights how low the ratings had to be for
Parker Spitzer until they got a bump form
PMT on Monday.360 was 3rd and it never will
get decent ratings until they stop wasting
time with pundits. Meanwhile, flip to The
Last Word and a real tough interview instead
of the annoying tea party lady.
CNN needs a hit news show and not an entertainment
ReplyDeleteshow that won't be consistent.IMHO CNN will end
up doing more damage to itself in prime time.
CNN might say we beat MSNBC but the fact is
TRMS is doing news and getting a million or more
viewers. Can CNN say that about any of their news
shows and if you look at the ratings for the past
2 days its is not helping CNN overall with other
shows. Piers Morgan will end up doing more harm
than good. Thank goodness for PBS, the most
trusted news source.CNN really needs to try
something other than left vs right. CNN is
pretty pathetic these days.In 6 months time
CNN will still be heading south.

the promos for the news shows.360 is really
bad these days. They ignore the news of the
day. I really don't get why they have decided
to ruin 360. It is lame these days.

the ratings will be 3 months from now.
That is a very good question: do people
know CNN is now on 2 hours earlier with
live shows ? The last couple of days, according
to TV By The Numbers, AM is averaging at
least 200,000. Just yesterday they got 100
in the demo. When was the last time that
happened ?.It seems like all of the cable news
channels are down some so far in 2011.
The problem for CNN is that Piers Morgan

interviewer. In fact, Morgan seems weak.
I think that is the draw. The guests are
getting the best of him and running the
show. It is a bad show. Reality will sink
in soon for CNN.
It would be smart for 360 to go back to it's
ReplyDeleteoriginality and get back to being a cool news
show. Anderson Cooper is this generations
news man. Anderson & Isha have really great
chemistry. The Ridiculist is Anderson Cooper
and the Nth Degree. Where's the hip news
theme and bump music ? Where's Radiohead
Ce-Lo ,Joy Division,The Clash & others on
the modern music scene. Just open and close
the show with different songs each night.
Pick up the pace and see how much actual
news and original reports CNN can jam in
one hour. Make the viewers feel like if they
turn they channel they will miss something.
@7:42AM: I couldn't agree more about Piers Morgans interviewing style, if had one. The guests seem to control the interview and that's a big no, no.

Does he need the additional publicity to bring up his ratings, although so far his ratings have not been bad hitting a million on Wednesday. But 360 some how is not holding on to the lead in, in total numbers for some reason.

In order for CNN to succeed and that includes raising 360's ratings,the show must appeal to ALL categories of people. The demos say it best...they have to go up and bump music is not the answer to people over the age of 40
Fox succeeds because it has built up a loyal following and that includes the totals, not just the almighty demos. They got it right because their base of viewership is BROAD, they manage to include all age groups.
The key word is inclusion, not exclusion.
Now if CNN could come up with a new show

O'Reilly, CNN could get back in the game.
Those viewers at 9 so far just shows CNN
doesn't need to be FNC or MSNBC but just
provide viewers with a different choice from
the norm for the hour.

ReplyDeleteOlbermann's departure should help AC and CNN in its ratings.
IF, it doesn't start placing second, after this shake up on MSNBC, there IS something really, really wrong.
Ed Schultz is now going to be opposite AC360.
ReplyDeleteSchultz's demos are lower than AC's but his totals have been slightly higher.
It will be interesting to see if AC can beat the Ed Show.

I wonder if CNN is noticing that Glen Beck's
numbers are down. What can TSR do ? If the
current trends continue, that means people
are tiring of the ideology. Countdown's ratings
have not been that great lately either.Parker
Spitzer is a huge problem for CNN because
MSNBC is going with The Last Word. There
are nights when Lawrence tops Keith in the
demo. Plus O'Donnell is well know to MSNBC
viewers. The big question is how angry will
Countdown viewers be. I don't think it is
angry enough to start watching Parker Spitzer.
Countdown was getting old and too predictable.
CNN has just as many questions as MSNBC.
360 will likely benefit.It will also be week 2
for PMT, will the ratings hold steady or drop ?
TRMS becomes the big show on MSNBC now
and it will be interesting to see what happens
with ratings for CNN, FNC & MSNBC. All 3
are losing viewers. Just take a look at the
ratings overall. With all that is going on
someone has to be a game changer. Who
will that be ? Will the changes bring MSNBC
higher ratings? What happens at 10 ?
Reality will set in this week for CNN.

lie shows on in prime time to be
competitive and they only have 1 with
360.I don't think The Ed Show really
fits.I don't see it getting the numbers
like the Last Word.IMHO MSNBC is
getting ready to get more news on
MSNBC and that is not good for CNN
with Parker Spitzer and Piers Morgan.
Lawrence O'Donnell and Rachel Maddow are MSNBC's strength right now.
ReplyDeleteThe Ed Show never got consistently high numbers and 360 should stand to gain at this time slot.
The interesting thing is, MSNBC would rather have a stronger player in the 8PM hour and keep Rachel Maddow happy at the 9PM hour.
Manangement at MSNBC doesn't seem to care one way or the other when it comes to 360. If they did, they would have certainly moved Maddow, and she'd most likely would win that hour.
She has a very upbeat personality and a loyal following. Never udnerestimate her potential.
Here's my prediction about the shake up at MSNBC: Rachel Maddow will get some of Olbermann's viewers and come out the winner.
ReplyDeleteMSNBC will still come out second, because the lead ins to Piers Morgan are sooo very low, and don't count on Piers too much longer. He really isn't much watch TV. He has some headliners coming up, but who cares. Unless they're involved in some lurid scandal, do we really want to hear them promote their next, I don't know, book, movie, DVD and for an entire hour??
Watching Spitzer and Michael Steele tonight - am I seeing Kathleen Parker's replacement? Spitzer/Steele?

ReplyDeleteShe has absolutely NO PROJECTION.
She mumbles and doesn't speak distinctly and should have taken a much needed linguistic lesson before attempting to co-anchor anything. Paula Zahn was far better and she's gone.
In all of CNN's fiasco line-up, I feel most sorry for John King. He is really a talent and very likeable and yet his show hasn't caught on. I'm glad he's gotten another gig on sports and hope CNN realizes he's the best they have in analyzing political, local trends in every state. He's a valuable resource come the primaries and elections.
As predicted, The Ed Show beat 360,

No, the lead-ins are not strong, but Piers Morgan is showing some life and did gain a bit in totals so that in itself, should help 360.
If Piers keeps up the trend, in the 700's than 360 should be able to hold its own and beat Ed.
We shall see.
