Erin Burnett will join CNN Worldwide as anchor and chief business and economics correspondent, it was announced today by Jim Walton, president of CNN Worldwide. Burnett will anchor a weekday general news program and will contribute to CNN’s coverage of national and international breaking news events and contribute reporting to CNN.com.
Burnett will begin in June and will be based in CNN’s New York Headquarters.
“Erin Burnett is a talented journalist and her perspective will add meaningfully to CNN’s coverage of the top national and international news stories we cover each day,” said Walton. “Erin is the kind of all-star player that knows how to connect-the-dots and translate events into relevant information for viewers.”
“I couldn't be more excited to be part of the world's preeminent news organization,” said Burnett. “I cannot wait to launch our new show: tackling serious issues and telling great stories. The experience I gained at CNBC and NBC News will be invaluable as I expand my focus. I began my journalism career at CNN, so this is like coming home for me."

Burnett joins CNN from CNBC where she anchored the weekday programs Squawk on the Street and Street Signs. Her focus on global business news included her reporting from locations as varied as China and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She has focused extensively on the Middle East, covering stories in Iran, Iraq, Libya and, most recently, the revolution in Egypt.
Burnett anchored several documentaries while at CNBC, including, "India Rising: The New Empire," "City of Money and Mystery," "The Russian Gamble," "On Assignment: Iraq" and "Dollars & Danger: Africa, The Final Investment Frontier." In addition, Burnett was a contributor to NBC's Today and Meet the Press and MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
Burnett is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and was selected as one of Fortune Magazine's “Top 40 Under 40” in 2009.
Could we finally be getting a women's news
ReplyDeleteshow on CNN ? I would love to CNN have a
nightly news show for women. by having a
show that does highlight intelligent woman
who can talk about complex issues and other
items of interest. I hope CNN does not repeat
Campbell Brown or Paula Zahn. Try music that
women relate to all throughout the show. Have
Erin Burnett as the only permanent host with
other female reporters from CNN, CNN I & HLN.
Each night have songs on the show that relate
to women. Women are 52 % of the population.
It is long overdue.
You know, I may be wrong, but I think that's actually a photo of Rebecca Jarvis of the CBS Saturday Early Show and not Erin Burnett.

She has been on his show a number of times as a judge and to me, she's no better than anyone else.
June. Sounds like they plan to hit the ground
ReplyDeleterunning.. This sounds like this has been it the
works for some time. CNN is not very good at
formating shows. That was the problem with
Campbell Brown. It sounds a little more like
Nightlne to me. The problem is she is coming
from CNBC. Not exactly stellar ratings and it
is possible she is not too well known outside
business circles. Could our long suffering as
CNN viewers be coming to and end with the
cancelation of In The Arena.

ReplyDeleteRumor has it that Erin was hired because Ali Velshi is going to get the permanent nod for co-anchoring American Morning. Not sure how true this is but if so Erin would be anchoring a daily segment of Newsroom, not replacing a prime time program. Again this is the rumor.

ReplyDeleteThe ratings are headed south. I am sorry but
anchoring and hosting a cable news show is a
gift and Ali Velshi and several others on CNN
just don't have it. However, it does make more
sense. Let's see how long it takes CNN to do
something about prime time. You kids can
forget about CNN ever hiring Strombo. I have
to give you all credit for persistence. I saw the
show while vacationing in Canada. Good stuff.
It is smart and funny at the same time. Not
anything like it in the states. Just watch it
online.

ReplyDeleteI think she was having a good time doing it and she should continue doing the morning show but NOT with Ali Velchi. They have zero chemistry.
Put Erin Burnett with Ali. At least they both can talk business and have something in common.
Kiran needs someone she can banter with and so far she's had no luck.
She might do well with Don Lemon, who keeps doing weekends. Let's give HIM an anchoring position during the day and put Ali on weekends.

hope that it is a business show with a focus
on tech and digital/social media. CNN really
should have paid more attention to the
Sony Playstation story. They need to have
a show like Bloomberg West. Most business
shows ignore the current business movers
and shakers. Not sure if CNN could compete
with Bloomberg on this. Bloomberg has some
65 people that just cover technology. Does
CNN even have a group of reporters devoted
to Silicon Valley. I lean more to Bloomberg
for my business news. I have a felling they
have big plans to challenge CNN. Bloomberg
is beefing up on it's news.

too much hate and politics on them. You all
do talk about the news. We are all interested
in news and info but not in the current form.
CNN is worldwide and is owned by media
giant Time Warner. It is the same company
that is bringing us Game of Thrones and
Conan. So CNN could make it happen. At
least that is our hope. Besides it is a news
program.
Don Lemon co-anchored with some woman today who was just awful.
ReplyDeleteShe had an accent, maybe the BBC, but she didn't sound British at all, and she added nothing to the program. I found her totally annoying and we all know Don is quite capable of doing the show alone. She was a distraction at best.
