ReplyDeleteOuch. Friday was a dismal day for CNN. According
ReplyDeleteto TV by the Numbers, both Early Start & Starting
Point scratched in the demo. 360 is now being
affected by Outfront and JK, USA. These 2 shows
are now dangerously low. It was a huge mistake
to put Carol Costello on for 2 hours. Ali Vleshi,
Christine Romans and Carol Costello were the
worst trio of anchors on CNN. Why are Carol
Costello and Christine Romans still anchoring ?
Now everything is a hot mess at CNN. Morning,
day and night. You guys called this one.
Wow, those Friday numbers were bad. Really, really, gobsmacking, pitiful bad. You know its bad when CNN is beat by CNBC's Squawk Box - that show is nothing more than Barbie & Ken reading a stock ticker. Not only do they need to fire some of the on-air "talent," but they also need to send some execs packing. You can run commercials all day long for OutFront and Piers Morgan, but people aren't tuning in. Save your ad money and get some real anchors and produce some interesting content. Its an election year for crying out loud, numbers for cable news should be up, right????

ReplyDeletelong you don't see anything telling you what CNN
is about as a network, CNN is trying to sell us
Piers Morgan & Erin Burnett. CNN had no room
for error. It was a dumb decision to give Erin
Burnett a show in early prime, having pundits
more than journalists is destroying CNN. Not
a serious news organization, breakfast with the
pundits is a disaster and Piers Morgan can't do
a decent interview. On top of all of this, CNN is
a national joke and it is taking a toll. Wolf might
be a good temporary choice to replace Erin
Burnett but that means you can't have him on
for 2 hours earlier. The 2 hour format is killing
CNN as well. After 9 AM you don't see shows
long than 1 hour on MSNBC. Every 2 hour show
on CNN repeats the same thing. Erin Burnett
and John King are going to start getting less
than 300,000. The suits gambled the network
on pundits, Erin Burnett and Piers Morgan and
it is too costly for CNN. Somebody has to take
the reins and get control of an out of control
downward spiral. I don't know who CNN can
get to fix the network. Maybe Rome Hartman,
Bill Wolff or Chris Licht. CNN is making viewers
flee. CNN is nothing without viewers/customers.
You don't diss your viewers by trying to be all
Foxy ( FNC) That is not CNN and was a stupid
plan. The million dollar question is who can
save CNN and turn the network around. The
problem for CNN is that they might have lost
some viewers permanently. CNN has to make
tangible changes that viewers can see and
think CNN is trying to fix things. Right now it
is like Alice In Wonderland. How do you keep
making the same mistakes.

Cain. Wake up CNN. Will Cain is an idiot. Here comes
a CNN boycott. CNN will always have a women's
problem because they hire men who are absolute
jerks and idiots. He tried to intimidate Sandra
Fluke and she wiped the floor with him. Drop the
idiots CNN. What a sexist jerk. When will CNN
wise up and realize that Beck & Breitbart employees
are not news people nor are conservative bloggers.
With hires like this you know why CNN is tanking.
After this episode, Starting Point is toast.

Jon Stewart said it best last night. The media is
angry at the people behind Kony 2012 because
the filmmakers got millions to pay attention to
a serious news story. He used one of CNN's
infamous election night stunts to make the
punt that viewers have stooped listening to the
media for that very reason.
CNN needs to hire those filmmakers to do
some promos for 360 & TSR and the news
shows on CNN. The team behind Kony 2012
know and understand communication and
engagement. In fact, every CNN show needs
this. Obviously, CNN is not connecting with
viewers. They are turning them off.
Here is a style of writing that CNN could use
all day long. The Rare Earth story. There is a
legendary group called Rare Earth. The news
is that Obama & others are taking on China
over this issue. Have their song Get Ready
being played with some of the words from
Obama on rare earth elements.. put together
a 30 second film showing items with rare
earth elements that permit us to listen to
to the group Rare Earth to set up a segment
about rare earth elements. That can go viral.
@12:02 I don't think the effect of Outfront and JK, USA on AC360 is as great as you think. I think AC360 as a show has its own problems as well. If I really like a show, I tune in or DVR it, and that is not dependent upon who is before or after it. It is dependent upon who is on the show I like. That is why I don't watch 360 anymore. It just isn't the show it used to be.
ReplyDeleteOh, I so vote for Bill Wolff coming to CNN to shake things up. That way he will bring his wife, Alison Stewart, to CNN to have a strong, smart, professional female presence in primetime. Though she would be a great headliner to a morning show.
ReplyDeleteI am gonna look up that Cain/Fluke video clip. I woke up this morning, turned on the TV and heard Soledad say that Will Cain was with her panel this morning and I promptly changed the channel. I REALLY can't stand that guy. I don't mind people with conservative opinions on the show but this guy is just an attention-wh@re who has never had a job with any responsibilty. He just spouts stupid stuff on TV and it baffles me that CNN indulges him. I guess that means he is in line to be a primetime anchor on CNN. ;)
Yes, 360 needs to have an anchor who is interested in being there.

I too, have become increasingly annoyed by Anderson and his use of his fame to promote certain agenda.
News should not be agenda driven.
It should be what is important to the viewing public.
As far as a lead in, having Wolf be the lead in for 360, is a good idea because the SIT Room is the only show left on CNN worth watching.
360 is getting very low numbers

Much of the loss is due to Anderson's insistence on a day persona and the viewers aren't buying it.
You can't be all things to all people.
MSNBC is wiping the street with CNN because ED Shultz and Rachel Maddow and O'Donnell have built a loyal following while Cooper decided to change his career path.
He made his choice and so did his viewership.

CNN is going to take a major hit.
CNN and all of the cable news missed the
ReplyDeleteBloomberg Survey. It is an important poll
that can't be ignored. They asked the big
question : are you better off ? a 38 %
majority said yes, 36 % said no. 66 % said
the oil companies were the blame for gas
prices. CNN is trying to make the narrative
that Obama is responsible for high gas
prices and they tried to use 2 polls to back
up their POV. Except for 1 thing they all
ignored the contradictions. You will never
hear the are you better off results on CNN.
John King and Erin Burneet would never
mention that. Erin Burnett said her strike
team predicted the poll numbers. It is now
clear a couple a days later that something
is not adding up but the media has been
constantly using a likely flawed poll to lie
and not put things in context. BI is very
popular and seen as keeping it real. CNN
just makes stuff up. I'll bet Erin Burnett will
never mention the analysis of Romney's
tax plan. It would explode the deficit. CNN
is biased and fails to put things into context.
CNN is not interested in facts.. That is why
the ratings is heading south. You know what
you are seeing on CNN is a lie.
CNN has already collapsed. MSNBC is now getting
ReplyDeleteover 1 million viewers in prime time consistently
and MSNBC's daytime numbers are toping CNN in
prime time. On Monday, CNN had 318,000/93,000
for daytime ratings. Disaster. CNN's lineup is weak.
How to lose a network. Imitate FNC, put pundits
on more than reporters, slapping viewers in the
face with an arrogance we can put on whatever
we like and forget if viewers don't like it. Now we
are seeing the repercussions of the failures of
CNN. Obviously, anyone watching CNN does not
want to watch FNC. They know how to find it if
they want it. It is not like they don't have access.
MSNBC set out to beat FNC not be FNC. That
is why MSNBC is succeeding and CNN is done.
At either FNC or MSNBC, Starting Point, John
KIng, Erin Burnett & PMT would have been
canceled. When they see something is not
working and damaging their network they
take action. CNN does nothing to end their
problems they just let them fester. No one
at CNN has a plan and it shows.
Please give ED Shultz the credit for being ED Shultz.
ReplyDeleteLast year he didn't stay behind like some anchors on CNN, and decided to take a stand.
He got off his rear and went in big backing labor.
He went to Wisconsin in the cold to stand shoulder to shoulder with the teachers union and public workers alike.
He did this more than once and than he recapped the same strategy on his show.
There's no denying that MSNBC has a stronger line up than CNN but all of their shows have built a loyal following and to say that Erin Burnett is now to blame for 360's poor ratings is pure rationalization.
Yes, she's bad, but guess what?
Anderson Cooper would have been axed by MNBC for lack of performance ratings wise.
Sorry.

ReplyDeleteI agree, wolf blitzer would be good primetime or at least go back to the days when he was primetime lead-in. Burnett is bad. I don't blame her for AC problems, I blame her for not carrying her own weight. I think CNN made a bad move for their brand identity with Burnett. This election is going to revolve around the economy and CNN mistakenly thought she would be a credible voice. There is a lot of economic pain out there and the CNN viewership isn't interested in Wall Street rhetoric.

Anderson is coming in at a distant third in both slots.
I know there are fans out there who will say, it is the fault of Erin Burnett or John King, but, really, it is not anyone's fault other than the anchor of 360.
Cooper needs to OWN his poor ratings all by his little lonesome.
Some commenters here may be licking their chops and waiting for the day CNN kicks Anderson and 360 to the curb for good, but fortunately it doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon, regardless of his ratings. Obviously CNN value his work above and beyond that as do his longtime viewers.
ReplyDeleteReally, of all the problems CNN has right now, AC360 seems least among them. Does he need to work on his show to increase ratings? Yes. At least we know he is capable. Not so sure about some of CNN's other recent endeavors.

It is only a matter of time and fortunately time is on Anderson's side, but for how long?
So Anderson is happy with his 419 and 485 in totals compared to Maddow, and Ed and Lawrence who are in the million plus totals?
