  1. Tom Foreman had Erin Burnett's program tonite. Maybe using up her days.
Something tells me, madam is on her way out.
    We can only hope.

  2. Way to go Coop. You got a 333 in totals on Friday.
Yes, we all know that it was a Friday, but somehow the other anchors pulled higher numbers on MSNBC so it's not the day buddy.

  3. CNN can no longer be in denial. There had
better be a course correction soon and it
might already be way too late. How do you
find a leader for a sinking ship. CNN is a bad
    career move right now.

  4. Wow, it sucks to be Anderson Cooper on CNN. What happened? He used to be #1. I even remember the promos about him being #1. CNN needs a fresh revamp. Have all new shows. End AC360º and have Anderson host a brand new, fresh show. Since starting his talk show, he hasn't traveled anywhere, so there is no point in having 360º in the title.

  5. I wish Anderson Cooper would leave his talk show behind but he seems to enjoy it a lot. More than CNN now. But doesn't he realize it doesn't suit him well? I used to see him as this hard news man but not anymore. If he left his talk show, CNN should cancel Piers Morgan and 360 and create a two hour live show like what he had long time ago, and incorporate celebrity interviews in it if thats what he really wants to do. He's better than Piers Morgan.

  6. I tried watching an hour of Starting Point this
morning. Viewers really don't get much out
of the playlist. The music starts too late. All
songs should start the moment Soledad reads
the teases. Old radio trick to keep listeners
from turning the channel because all that you
are hearing is talk. For an entire hour the guy
who was the former of the USS Cole was silent
the whole time. Maybe add Betty Nguyen and
Aisha Tyler along with Soledad. The show
needs a personality lift. Starting Point is too
dull. A morning show needs energy to give
viewers a lift in the morning. Morning Joe
has Joe, Mika & Willie each morning when
you wake up. Others are will rotate. CNN
was aiming for a Crossfire panel with a news
show. Bad idea. Won't work for a news show.
Just have 1 rotating guest. The personalities
don't work for Starting Point.CNN wrongly
assumes that ideology will connect with
viewers. Ultimately it is the host and the
    content of a particular show.

  7. 360 will be on CNN for quite some time at 8
& 10 PM. Starting Point & Out Front have been
at low ratings for months and the are still on
the CNN schedule. No one is going to consider
2 days to be a ratings trend. TV does not work
that way. Also, Anderson's daytime show will
continue as well. 360 makes the most money
for CNN and Anderson makes syndication $$$
for Time Warner. Season 2 is coming this fall.
It comes down to $$$ for Time Warner.

  8. My guess is that Burnett was gone last night due to travel to Tel Aviv to interview the Israeli PM. I saw commercials for it this morning. I REALLY wish it was an indication she was leaving but I don't think that is the case. :(

  9. I agree, I wish Anderson would abandon daytime talk as well. He always was a serious newsman to me. Shortly after his daytime show premiered, I saw video clips of his show online - I was horrified to see him getting a spray tan with Snooki! I do not like him in that role. He does a decent job with celeb interviews - his 60 minutes interview with Adele was great! The commenter that suggested that we dump Morgan and make AC360 a 2 hr show that would occasionally include pop culture interviews, has a really good idea. He could do some entertainment stuff but don't get too low brow (NO JERSEY SHORE OR HOUSEWIVES). Like when Piers had the cast of The Good Wife. Its a hot show, big ratings, award winning, so it has real water-cooler appeal. I agree, Anderson is every bit as good at that as Piers. Get rid of OutFront and Erin Burnett. Move The Situation room back to the lead-in position for AC360. Cancel JohnKingUSA, but keep King for political coverage. He could do political segments on both TSR and AC360. They need another show - I think they should try Ashleigh Banfield. I know CNN was trying to grow their pool of financial reporters when bringing in Burnett, but she doesn't exactly have a reputation for representing the average American. Even by CNBC standards, she was an overt Wall Street shill. It would be nice to have someone on CNN domestic primetime that can talk about business and the economy with authority and credibility. I know Ali Velshi is really busy over at CNNI.

I've read some ideas about having an ensemble show of several women like Aisha and Isha which I also think is a good idea. That may be a great show for the 10pm block that CNN seems to want to fill with something other than a rerun.

CNN needs to make some major changes - everyone here has said repeatedly, dump the pundits. We can't emphasize that enough. I DVR Up w/Chris Hayes every weekend and I have been hooked since the first episode. He gets academics, authors, thinktank policy analysts, and journalists from all over the country. I look forward to his book coming out in June. So many times, CNN has the same old hacks from DC or NYC. Up and the new MHP show has experts from Minneapolis, Detroit, New Orleans, Kansas City, Seattle. Hey CNN, did you know there are millions of people who don't live in NYC and yes, we still matter. You want us to watch your channel, right?

Finally, CNN needs to learn how to groom and develop talent. MSNBC has their big names on primetime but you can see they are growing the next gen. Alex Wagner, MHP, Chris Hayes, and now Ezra Klein. They are building a profile and audience for these folks and it is only a matter of time before they are on primetime. Who is CNN's up and comers? Exactly.

  10. Don't see Piers Morgan getting cancelled anytime soon since he has been CNN's highest rated show the past couple of weeks.

Plus, his show just received a new endorsement deal.

The top executives at CNN need to go, how can they justify keeping their positions when the network is in it's worst position ever?

Changes are needed and they need to start at the top.

  11. I see that Don Lemon is not so popular anymore.
He is messing up big time. All of a sudden
he thinks attacking Obama and disrespecting
blacks will gain him viewers. Lemon will regret
his actions. His ratings will take a dive.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That late night that George Zimmerman was released from jail, cable networks reported on it live except for CNN, which at 4AM played a repeat of the CNN Newsroom 10PM Don Lemon hour and in it he says "he could be released sometime this week". There should have been an update.

  13. Agreed, top execs need to go. Too many new show failures, too much ratings decline. Heads need to roll.

  14. Gloria Borger, Anderson and all of the conservative pundits on CNN are just going to gloss over Romney's record at Bain, his extremist, radical views, his flip-flopping, etc to tell the public that none of that matters. Of course it WOULD matter if they were talking about President Obama. I don't think CNN will be examining Romney's real records, statements or the policies that he really endorses at all, they seem to be pushing him and bashing the President (who's leading in the polls, but you wouldn't know it from CNN). Romney cannot be trusted and if CNN told the truth and did real journalism, Romney would never be elected. Thank goodness Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell tell the truth about Romney. Paul Begala had to practically tip-toe around his points about Romney's terrible record at Bain on AC360 last night because heaven forbid some truth about him comes out on CNN, Borger and Fleischer naturally got the last word in order to push Romney again. CNN does not do its job.

Would Don Lemon be as bold to criticize Republicans the way he has liberals on CNN? He's gloating as though he's done something really significant, it's not. What would be significant and meaningful is if CNN pushed back against right wing talking points, something they are fearful of doing.

  15. Good thing Anderson is printing his own money now.
He may soon need to use it.
According to his ratings in both slots he is the mid-three hundreds in totals.
Yes, I know die hard fans will watch him stand on his head and say that was great, but for the rest of us, he's snooze time, and he looks ridiculous on the twenty dollar bill.
Oh, wait he can use that for his list. Don't trash it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anon 10:29 am is a great example of good, constructive criticism. Thank you for your comment.

On the other hand, it's odd how Anderson's supposedly such a big "snooze" to some, but they still manage to spend plenty of time bellyaching about someone they have no respect for or interest in any longer. Why continue to be SO invested in the career path of someone you don't care for? I wonder what these snide critics will do if their dream of Anderson being yanked from every show on the air and thrown into permanent obscurity actually comes to pass? I guess they will spend all their time celebrating and gloating over it here.

    ReplyDelete
  17. @ 5:04 AM: It does not take very much time to be critical of someone you've become disappointed in.
I know because I feel the same way about Anderson.
At one time I'd hang on every word and never miss him and now I couldn't tell you or care whether he's on or he's not on.
It makes little difference to me because unless I'm blogging about CNN I don't really give "a damn."
In addition, his friend Kathy Griffin is bombing on Bravo.
According to USA Today, she had 900,000 viewers for her first show.
Maybe if AC had a guest appearance he'd increase her viewership to 900
    thousand plus one.
    Just saying.

  18. Everyone is waiting for the shoe to drop on
Out Front. CNN is about to take a huge beating
in the press. The big questions are how soon
will Out Front be canceled and what show will
replace Out Front CNN can't afford to wait too
much longer. I don't see Out Front making it
for the month of May. CNN critics were right.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anderson Cooper is not going anywhere. 360 is
the only CNN show that occasionally tops MSNBC
the demo. On top of that the 10 PM repeat gets
    the top demo for CNN.

I hope CNN hires Aisha Tyler for a Daily Show type
program at 7 & brings in George Strombo & Mark
Kelley from the CBC for a 6 PM show. Both Kelley
and Strombo get presentation and delivery. It
could be that Connect with Mark Kelley would be
a new type of evening news broadcast. CNN has
got to start bringing in more 50 and under viewers
to grow. it's possible that Kelley, Tyler, Cooper &
Stroumboulopoulos could bring in those 18-49
year olds. The group advertisers really want. I
DVR the Talk just for Aisha. I DVR 360 as well.
I would have no problem adding Strombo and
Kelly to the list. I don't think people would say
what is CNN doing wrong now. Tyler gets great
press for the Talk. It is not a stretch to see a
couple of CBC broadcasters move to American
television. Remember the late Peter Jennings.
If there is breaking news you have Mark Kelley,
Anderson Cooper & Isha Sesay. If CNN were to
hire George Stroumboulopoulos & Mark Kelley,
they don't have to work about an Out Front
debacle. The same goes for Aisha Tyler. She
has done this before on Comedy Central.

Because of Starting Point , Out Front, lower daytime
ratings CNN could have record lows for the month
    of April 2012.

  20. I'm pulling for a women's show for a replacer.
CNN could easily do this. They have Isha Sesay,
Asleigh Banfield already in place. Betty Nguyen
would be a like coming home to CNN. Agreed
there should be a Latino female journalist but
please no View. To me Talk is classier and real.
I say have these hosts : Betty Nguyen, Isha Sesay
Asleigh Banfield, Aisha Tyler and a Latino female.
Of course chemistry is important. Give viewers
a break from politics and just have a fun show.
News, interesting topics, music. Give viewers
a break from politics and pundits. It would be
an instant hit. Go with permanent hosts. It is
hard for viewers to connect if you keep on
changing the hosts. Maybe a June launch.

  21. My mom turned me on to The Talk. I love the
conversational topics on the show. The crazy
boyfriend who pretended to be a burglar to
prank his girlfriend was something. Love the
conversation they have for the first 30 mins
of the show. It holds your attention. I stop
watching The View a while back. Got tired of
Joy and Elizabeth in cat fights. I was not sure
I would like The Talk but I have been watching
    since January.

If CNN could get Chiquinquira Delgado or Ana
Patricia Gonzalez from Despierta America that
would be great but how do you get them to
jump from Univision. The same thing goes for
Aisha Tyler at CBS. All of them are on great
shows and have freedom to loosen things up.
They are not mean people. Right now cable
news is geared toward men. I can't see CNN
being this bold. Women could help save CNN.

CNN has become so negative. I am sure they
can transition to news, smart conversation,
fun conversation, interesting topics. There is
just too much hate and anger on CNN. I don't
like the tone of the network.

  22. That is not a good idea to have two Canadian broadcasters hired on CNN. It would take years before people would warm up to them. Who is going to listen to them about American politics. Look what happened to Christiane Amanpour. It also took Peter Jennings many years to be a popular anchor.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It would help if 360 would have Reckoner by
Radiohead for a theme song and bring back
the cool bump music. Use Death Cab for Cutie's
I Will Possess your heart for Isha. It has a nice
long intro to read the news. Also, can 360 lose
the dancing blue background. Why did CNN
mess up 360 and kill the music ? The big reason
why 360 is losing younger viewers is the pundits.
    That is so not 360.

    ReplyDelete
  24. CNN has definitely turned off viewers. No more
pundits doing news. No more Starting Point, John
King, USA or Erin Burnett starting Monday. It is
time for drastic actions. You are losing CNN.
The brand is vanishing right before your eyes.
Stop with these ridiculous questions that no
one is talking about. Stop letting people come
on who insult viewers intelligence. You don't
let CNN go down like this. Management act like
you care about CNN. They have completely
ruined a once great network. CNN might not
survive this.I know we have been joking that
the goal of CNN must be to drive away viewers.
This is not funny anymore. It looks like they
have succeeded. Too bad none of the people
mentioned here can't start on Monday. CNN
can start with an apology to viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  25. In regards to Canadian broadcasters I say this - what people don't know won't hurt them. Ashleigh Banfield - Canadian. Ali Velshi - yep, Canadian too. Those two go over well on CNN. Can they be worse than the elitist NYC'ers we have now?

    ReplyDelete
  26. CNN does have Ashleigh Banfield, Isha Sesay
and Alina Cho. They can start Monday. Just get
    Out Front off of CNN.

Mark Kelley and George would not be just covering
politics for CNN. Christiane left to do a purely
political show. That is why she got into trouble.
The late Peter Jennings covered it all for ABC and
he was hugely successful at ABC NEWS. Xenophobia
can't save CNN. If the shows are good. Americans
will watch it. You would not believe the number
    of Canadians on American television.
