Tomorrow
night on Anderson Cooper 360°, an interview with the parents of Trayvon Martin.
Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton will speak with Anderson about the verdict, their
thoughts about the deliberation process revealed by Juror B37 and how they hope
their son will be remembered.
The
interview will air Thursday night on AC360° at 8pm ET on CNN.
It has been a big week for 360. When ti comes to cable news, Anderson Cooper is considered to be a journalist and interviewer. 360 in general is mostly a news show compared to the opinion non journalists. Anderson Cooper can get the big interviews for CNN because he is a respected journalist. 360 is CNN's best show. I hope management understands this.

ReplyDeleteCBS,ABC & NBC morning shows. 360 is different
and this is likely why the parents chose Anderson.
AC won't have any trouble getting people to sit
and talk with him. Back in the day there were
times when what was on 360 ended up being on
the Evening newscasts the next day. Also, Chris
Hayes will force Anderson to have more constructive
conversations and that makes 360 better. The
interview, conversation has to be tolerable. When
you at the post verdict coverage, 360 was one of
the few cable news shows that acted responsibly.
Sadly, the Zimmerman verdict has bought out
the worst in most of cable news. 360 is one of the
few shows I have been about to watch following
the verdict.
Anderson Cooper likely gave a boost to New Day
as well. On Tuesday, according to TVN, New Day
was the # 1 demo in morning cable news shows.
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that
viewers wanted to see and hear from those who
are connected to the trial.
It's more about Anderson than CNN. CNN is the
ReplyDeletebenefactor. So far, Jeff Zucker is letting 360 do it's thing. Let's hope this continues. Zucker was thinking about getting rid of 360 at 10 PM. CNN does not have another show that can match 360 in the ratings.
My problem with AC360 at 10pm was that it was a rerun. If AC does another live show then that's a heck of a lot better than a rerun.
ReplyDeleteIt's simple : focus on content and interview people who are connected to news events. Get away from opinion and ideology. All CNN needs to do is to become the world's largest news content. Get rid of the same tired old formulas. The demo ratings for 360 is why Fox is shaking up it's prime time lineup. Generational shifting is here and CNN had better wake up. If Netflix picking up Emmy nods, does not wake of these networks about their content and programming nothing will. You are only as good as your content. Please CNN give your viewers the ultimate news experience. One of the most overused words on CNN is debate. Why can't it be a discussion or conversation like 360 has been this week. By the way Parts Unknown picked up 4 Emmy nods.
ReplyDelete360 & CNN still have a long way to go. On Wednesday, CNN was back to 3rd in viewers/demos according to TV by the Numbers. All In will challenge 360. Sometimes 360 will win other nights it will be Chris Hayes. Content is key as well as guests. I like both shows & DVR them.
ReplyDeleteCNN needs to get a grip. There are protesters of every nationality protesting and rallying for Trayvon Martin. The racial/ideological divide is in the media. Last I checked Obama was President. Why are they calling President Obama black first and having black tea party members come on a representatives of the black community. The tea party has zero support in the black community. CNN is clueless.

Sure a royal heir matters to CNN viewers. Weekend
special, fine, but not prime time during the week.
CNN is terrible.
360 is the only thing CNN has going for it. CNN will take a huge ratings dive soon. In June, MSNBC moved back ahead of CNN. The Zimmerman trial gave CNN the edge for July 2013. It will be interesting to see if MSNBC closes the gap in the final 2 weeks in July.
ReplyDeleteIf CNN wants to grow it's audience, it has to move beyond ideologues. The changing demographics of America means that all broadcast/cable networks need to attract more women & diverse viewership.
CNN has too many missed opportunities. Just this morning on New Day they had video of an incredible grand mom drummer, she has some serious drumming skills but viewers never got to hear it. No lets give it a listen. The same thing happened yesterday with Robin Roberts at the Espys. Michaela told us what Robin said. Hello, can we get some clips of the speech. Television is visual. It's the biggest advantage you have. Blogs can't match CNN's video content. CNN : make good use of video or sound.
When it comes to TV, video is the # 1 way to engage viewers. The job is to bring it all together with writing,delivery and presentation. Prediction : CNN will finish 2013 a distant 3rd. Come 2014 it will be interesting to see what John Martin has to say about CNN and CNN management. Bet on a shakeup. CNN has very little room for error.
Anderson Cooper's interview with Trayvon's parents was amazing. I'm confused. Is the 360 replay now on at 11 PM ? The other day I was going thru the menu on my television and the info for 360 at 10 PM says Anderson Cooper talks about the news headlines and interviews. For 8 PM it just says news. Today when I was setting up the DVR for Stroumbo I see that the Will & Kate special is on again tonight. Did you guys hear that Parts Unknown picked up 4 nominations. Ironically, Anthony Bourdain was not Jeff Zucker's idea. That was Jim Walton. So who gets credit ?
ReplyDeleteThe most incredible event just occurred on cable news. Just turned on the television 5 minutes before President Obama spoke about Trayvon Martin and the Zimmerman verdict. This is CNN at it's best, bringing us historic moments that are just jaw-dropping. Never seen anything like this. I was not around for the 60's & 70's so for me that is ancient history. I have a multi-ethnic family and friends of multi-cultural backgrounds. President Obama just gave America a history lesson. There are moments we will always remember that we witnessed. I just happened to stumble upon this by accident. He was speaking from the heart. That was raw and real. America is a work in progress . Say what you will that took courage.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama made his statement about the Trayvon/Zimmerman trial and it went something like this:"If I had a son he would look exactly like Trayvon."

Not sure if this was inspirational enough after his line about his son.
That was the time to do it.
The Washington Post said exactly the same thing I just said in its OP ED piece today.
No matter what the President says, there will be a racial divide.
His Presidency has not bridged this gap, unfortunately.
Now it is a bit late.
President Obama did finally acknowledge the outcome of the Zimmerman trial and we did get some of his rhetorical ispiration, but it wasn't what should have been said.
ReplyDeleteWe are all aware that HE alone will go down in history as our first black President, but in the end, he is the President of ALL the people and to tell us that 35 years ago, he would have looked like Trayvon Martin, is presiding over the Afro-American community, telling us about how Afro-Americans interpret the verdict, and not responding to the rest of America, which may in fact, feel the verdict was unjust.
In doing so, and by taking this tactic, he is leaving out a larger percentage of the population who always found him inspirational, and was looking for racial guidance and leadership. It is the leadership portion of his Presidency that continues to plague his legacy.
As long as states such as Florida and Arizona insist upon upholding
ReplyDelete"stand your ground regulation," which in effect justifies homicide if one perceives his life is in danger and the use of a firearm is a necessary deterrent, the NRA gains, and equal justice under the law, is diminished.
There is little evidence that protests or vigils will help change the law. The gun lobby is now jointly ruling and ruining this countries justice system for the sake of monetary gain.
It does little good for Attorney General Holder to "revisit" the stand your ground ruling in 21 states, if this law is considered one that is justified by the states
in which 'stand your ground' was implemented.
According to Huffpost, Arizona Govenor Jan Brewer sees no reason to rethink this "controversial law" as it stands in her state and she stands oppose to any and all Federal interference in light of the Zimmerman verdict.
