This week Sanjay Gupta MD is putting heart health under the microscope.  The show will start famous “Heart Attack Grill,” where the menu advertises “food good enough to die for.” The spokesman died of a heart attack this week – just months after the last spokesman dropped dead at age 29, and two customers died of heart attacks right in the restaurant.  Sanjay talks to the owner of the grill, and heart specialist Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum to see how much fast food is too much.  Sanjay also looks at a screening test that shows whether young people, especially young athletes, are at risk of sudden death. There’s no question the test would save lives, but it’s still controversial.

CNN Live From Chicago Today & Tonight

CNN will broadcast the President’s address from Chicago today, where he visits his home district and the area where Hadiya Pendleton was gunned down after performing in the Inaugural Parade.  Beginning at 3:30pm (ET), Chris Cuomo anchors coverage of the President’s address. Cuomo will host Anderson Cooper 360 from Chicago tonight at 8pm ET, interviewing a woman who has opened up her home to inner city Chicago kids who are living in an urban war zone.  Erin Burnett will interview Rev. Jesse Jackson for tonight’s Erin Burnett OutFront in regards to his criticism of the President’s handling of gun violence in their hometown of Chicago.  Ted Rowlands and Gary Tuchmann report from Chicago.  Rowlands follows Hadiya Pendleton’s murder case, and Tuchmann spends time with gang members who, for the night, put down their weapons.

According to Nielsen Fast National data, CNN’s live coverage was number one last night (Tuesday, February 12) during breaking news, State of the Union address and throughout primetime in the key demo adults 25-54 and among younger viewers 18-34.  CNN topped MSNBC in total viewers and among the key demos across the night.  In addition, CNN topped broadcast networks ABC and CBS among 18-34.

When CNN went to live coverage of the State of the Union, Dorner coverage shifted to sister network HLN. The two hour coverage block (9:00-11:00p) averaged 311k in the key demo (up +97%) and 870k among total viewers (+57%) vs. the prior hour (8:00 pm).

CNN Dedicates Tuesday Night to President Obama’s State of the Union Address

Sen. Marco Rubio’s GOP Response to Air Live in Primetime

Guests include former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Michigan Gov. Granholm

CNN’s political team of anchors and correspondents will lead the network’s coverage of President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address Tuesday, Feb. 12 beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

Leading the network’s coverage will be anchors Wolf Blitzer, Kate Bolduan, Erin Burnett, Anderson Cooper, Chris Cuomo and Jake Tapper. Special guests providing analysis and perspective include former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm. Dana Bash will report live from inside the U.S. House chamber and Jessica Yellin will provide updates from the White House.

Commentary will be provided throughout the evening by chief political analyst Gloria Borger, senior political analyst David Gergen, along with political contributors Cornell Belcher, Donna Brazile, Alex Castellanos, Margaret Hoover, Van Jones and Ana Navarro.

The Republican response, delivered by Sen. Marco Rubio, will also air live following the State of the Union address.

On the magic wall, chief national correspondent John King will provide a report card on first term State of the Union promises, and assess the prospects for congressional action on a second-term Obama wish list that includes the economy, immigration, gun control and climate change. Burnett will conduct a focus group from the University of Richmond, where registered voters provide live reaction during the president’s speech. John Berman and Tom Foreman, live from the network’s virtual studio, will offer reality checks of the president’s remarks and the Republican response.

CNN’s coverage extends across all platforms with the network’s “Tweet of the Union” database, which allows users to track the conversation among members of congress in real time and filter the conversation among demographic and editorial storylines. Starting Tuesday, viewers can follow the conversation at CNN.com/tweetoftheunion and add their own spin on the president’s speech via Twitter using the hashtag #tweetoftheunion.

CNN Digital will live-stream both the address and the response on CNN.com and on CNN’s mobile website and apps. Users can visit CNNPolitics.com for analysis, commentary and reaction to the speeches and follow along on The Political Ticker’s live-blog.

Exec. Producer Announced for Jake Tapper's 4PM Program

Federico Quadrani to Executive Produce Jake Tapper’s New CNN Program

The 4 p.m. program anchored by Tapper to launch in March

                Federico Quadrani will join CNN as the executive producer of the network’s new Washington program anchored by Jake Tapper, it was announced today by Sam Feist, CNN Washington bureau chief and senior vice president. Quadrani, who joins CNN from MSNBC later this month, will work on the development of the new 4 p.m. program set to debut this March.

“Federico’s talent for story development and live production will be a perfect fit for Jake’s new program,” said Feist. “Federico’s track record with both network news programs and Washington-based cable news programs make him a terrific addition to CNN as we enter into an exciting time for the network.”

“I’m thrilled to have Federico join me in leading our new team,” said Jake Tapper, CNN anchor and chief Washington correspondent. “In recent years he’s produced incisive political coverage, but his diverse news background is equally important. From his Peabody award-winning live coverage of 9/11 in the ABC News control room through his days producing textured taped pieces and remarkable live shots at NBC’s Today, Federico has built a reputation for finding great American stories and creating compelling content. His voice will help us build the informative, engaging and provocative program we want this to be.”

In 2009, Quadrani joined MSNBC, where he served as executive producer of weekend programming—responsible for breaking news and weekend content. Later he served as executive producer of The Daily Rundown with Chuck Todd. Currently, Quadrani is the executive producer of Jansing & Company.

Prior to MSNBC, Quadrani worked as an Emmy-winning producer for NBC’s Today show from 2003 to 2009, in various roles from senior graphics producer to supervising producer. He created and supervised all aspects of various news segments such as: Today at the Vatican and Where in the World is Matt Lauer?  Prior to NBC, Quadrani worked as a writer at ABC’s Good Morning America from 1998 to 2003. His work contributed to the program’s Peabody Award-winning coverage of the September 11, 2001 attacks. In addition, during his ABC tenure, he worked on Early Morning News and World News Now. Quadrani started his career in 1997 as a writer for WNBC-TV in New York.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from Wesleyan University and was a directing fellow at the American Film Institute. Quadrani was raised in New York City and Rome, Italy, and is fluent in Italian.  

Tapper recently joined CNN in January; his one-hour weekday program will debut in the network’s 4 p.m. hour in March. The program title and format details will follow in the coming days.
