  1. While I give AC and his crew a lot of credit for arriving on the spot, and showing footage of the oil soaked marshes, perhaps they wouldn't be oil soaked, IF the national media was on top of things.
This didn't happen over nite like the earthquake in Haiti. CNN as well as other media outlets WAITED 5 WEEKS before they got actual footage of the wetlands. The wetlands had oil on them last week. Where was the media? Birds have had oil soaked feathers come ashore, where was the media? Now that we are in crisis mode, AC and his crew are there.
Yes, better late than never but when you're talking about people's livelihood and wildlife, this is not only a catastrophe it is a catastrophe made worse by the national media's refusal to respond until it was too late. EXPOSURE WAS NEEDED before last nite.
Not very much different than the way in which BP acted is it? Let's wait until we're in crisis mode and then respond.
It's all ratings. Really bad photos make for really good ratings so let's wait....it's disgusting.

  2. CNN really needs to knock it off with this is
Obama's Katrina {People know there is a big
difference between a man made disaster and
a natural disaster. People get that this is some
5 thousand ft deep and that the oil spill is so
massive that there is no way to predict where
it will come ashore. Has any reporter gone out
with the USCG to see the hard work they are
doing.CNN has done nothing but try and make
the whole situation political and it is not a
political story. Maybe if CNN even bothered
to put some people on the air other than
politicians or those politically connected and
cover the spill as the crisis it is people would
pay more attention. As long as CNN keeps
using certain catch phrases and over the
top rhetoric people will turn away.

A former president of Shell has been on
television saying other oil companies are
working with BP on the problems and that
some of the world's best scientists are
hard at work o the matter. Why not focus
more on the eco system, the food chain
and the people.CNN's coverage it coming
off as more rhetoric than reality. Also,
CNN do something about Rick Sanchez.
His antics today were really uncalled for,
thank goodness Chad Myers was around
to understand what the professor was
talking about. Hello, why not Chad Myers.
Rob Marciano and Reynolds Wolf. They
know the questions to ask and understand
basic science.CNN is such a joke now even
when it comes to major news stories.
If this is a serious matter, CNN needs
to act responsibly on the air. Weeks ago
marine biologists and others were saying
this would cause massive damage in the
Gulf. Right now CNN's coverage looks like
    a platform for a venting festival. I don't
like that CNN is not bothering to give us
both sides of the story and just malign
the USCG, which is the US military.
Did it ever occur to CNN that they are
very busy actually working to solve
the problems the spill is causing and
really don't have time to get their faces
    all over television.

  3. Guest on Larry King tonight : Paris Hilton,
and you have to wonder why his program
is in trouble.I would be willing to bet that
Rachel would never have Paris Hilton on
her show. She is so last century. You can't
have too many boats in the water collecting
sludge on the bottom of boats. There is a
risk of spreading the contamination. On
Monday, the parish president's story changed
from Campbell Brown to 360. During her
show he was saying less than 6 months,
now the guy keeps saying 6 months.
Ask oceanographers of the risk of being
in a rush to do something and it goes
wrong . You end up dealing with a bigger
mess. There are no easy or simple answers.
It was a mistake for CNN to get rid of it's
    environmental/science until. They really
should use their meteorologists to have
    conversations with the experts.CNN
just doesn't get that nothing like this
has never happened before and the
US military doesn't have the equipment
to deal with oil spills.CNN needs credible
    anchors in the chair.

  4. CNN is using quotes from Karl Rove and Tom
Ridge to try and turn the Gulf oil crisis into
something it is not. Professor Brinkley has
been one of the few people on CNN who is
making any sense.I generally like David Gergen,
the man is usually level headed and measured.
When Gergen made the comment about WW II
that bothered me and I am tired of seeing the
daddy comment from James Carville, who CNN
keeps failing to mention is on their payroll.
This is exactly what happens when you have
too many pundits and make the news
politically centered, the real story is being
buried and you have lousy journalism. Are
the CNN crews informing the Coast Guard
about the areas they are seeing oil in huge
amounts? BP has to stop the spill before
hurricane season. It is as if CNN is trying to
make this Obama's Katrina, wether it is true
or not. Katrina and the Gulf spill are not the
same thing and the media needs to recognize
this. Please listen to Doug Brinkley and
not the political hacks with agendas.

  5. Memo to CNN : instead of going with Ali Velshi
& Rick Sanchez, how about Sanjay Gupta, all of
the CNN weather people, John Roberts, Don Lemon
and even Wofl Blitzer for 4 hours each day.We
need people we trust to bring us the news.
Try 4 hours of intelligent/informative news.
Basically, lets all get schooled for 4 hrs about
a very significant news story. Forget about the
Katrina mess and focus on what is happening here
    and now.We don't need Ali's prepared statement
at the beginning of the 1 pm hour or the antics
of Rick. Time magazine is in the same building
as the CNN news room in NYC. Time has
    environmental and science reporters. Also,
TW owns Life.com. The magazine has captured
amazing photos from the Gulf for years.
Finally, why is Brooke Baldwin standing at
the screen like she is Vanna White? As a
female I am greatly offended. Are the suits
even watching what CNN is broadcasting.
Who am I kidding, obviously not. How
about some real time reports from the Gulf.
Right now with the exception of 360 CNN
    is blowing this big time.

  6. There was a good article in the NYT today, by the former founder of TVN, about Larry King.
It seems that King was upstaged by Rachel Maddow who booked Rand Paul first ON MSNBC. King is no longer the the king maker or the place to be at 9PM.
He should not wait until his contract exspires. He should bow out gracefully. He has become a liability.

  7. @12:52AM: I totally disagree when it comes to CNN's knocking it off when it "comes to Obama's Katrina."
It does not make one bit of difference whether it was man made or a natural disaster. A disaster is still a disaster and Obama's response time has been as poor as Bush's, maybe even worse.
While I am no Bush fan, Obama had 5
weeks to gather the facts and contact as many influential people in the field as he needed. He's smart. Why did he wait as long as he did? He couldn't foresee this spreading?
Just last night he thought going to a "fund raiser" was more important than getting his act together and going to the Gulf.
THE POTUS himself made it political, not CNN. This IS Obama's Katrina....his response time is lame.
In fact this may become BIGGER than Katrina. Katrina was water, this is oil. You have to know that "oil and water don't mix."

  8. Now that new data released by the government
now confirms the worst fears that this spill tops
the Exxon Valdez and is the worst oil spill in the
history of the United States you would think that
CNN would not be so careless as to put Rick
Sanchez on in prime time.I am now watching
    MSNBC for the night.

  9. Everyone can see that CNN is in trouble
for not living up to it's history, Rachel
Maddow topped Larry King simply by
being a better show and you actually
get some news. Let's face it , Rachel
comes across as someone who does
her homework. Her show is better than
Countdown and a lot of CNN shows too.

  10. CNN should have gone live from the Gulf
at 8 with Rob Marciano. This will be the
biggest news story of the year hands down.
Heck even go with a special edition of 360
for the hour. Good work from all of the
people CNN has down in the region.360 was
    great tonight.

  11. I agree Rick Sanchez is such a waste of time.
The only thing I have against Rachel Maddow is she doesn't seem to like to do "field work." She does her homework, but its usually fact checking sources from the studio.
Yes, CNN should have devoted the entire prime time hours to the Gulf
without the faces of Rick Sanchez and Larry King, but at least Larry's producer had the sense to scratch Paris Hilton. Why book third rate talent and who cares about her in good times?
Tomorrow he has Am Idol contestants. The show has lost its popularity and now is no time to bring in wannbe talent. CNN use your head.

  12. Nightline exists simply because the news
executives at ABC realized that viewers needed
the nightly round up of the events surrounding
the Iran hostage crisis. This needs to be one of
those moments for CNN. Send out your crews en
masse to bring us everything. Just as ABC went
with Ted Koppel , CNN has got to go with John
Roberts, Wolf Blitzer, John King, Anderson Cooper,
someone with journalistic chops. Look at the
ratings, they are lower than the ratings CNN had
during the Haiti quake. Call it ' Embedded' or
whatever but have your crews covering the
news from Gulf, each parish, people working
to build to lessen the impact of the oil
coming ashore. Why are we not seeing the
scientists who are discovering details about
the disaster? Yesterday on the 360 blog
Rob Marciano posted that he was embedded
with wildlife people trying to save the
animals. How come all of the CNN crews
are not embedded to bring us real time
    reporting.If they capture something, let's
get it on the air.I have to admit this, I
never thought I would be saying Kiran
Chetry is doing some good work field
    anchoring.CNN needs to commit resources
to the Gulf and give us wall to wall coverage.
We have wetlands, the food supply, wildlife,
etc. The national media is doing a lousy
job bringing it home to us and is missing
the boat on the impact of all of this.
Where is the in depth on scene reporting.?
CNN should be owning this story because
they seem to have more people than the
other networks in Louisiana . What has
CNN got against scientists in prime time.
I am willing to bet there are scientists
at Tulane, LSU and other universities along
the Gulf coast. You can do live shots with
an I-phone for free. This is not rocket
science, where is the journalistic backbone.
Technology exists now that should make
this really easy, cell phone, which all have
cameras these days, i-pods that can shoot
video and Skype and other tech gadgets.
Am I supposed to believe that CNN is not
getting any I-Reports and they can not
touch base with the locals and get them
on CNN.I am wondering is this the result
of poor planning or bad news judgement.
    Did management go on vacation?
Does CNN still have a bureau in NOLA?
ABC, CBS and NBC may not be willing
to commit to this story due to cost cutting
measures. That means CNN is our best
hope and right now the are letting us
down big time. Now CNN can not even
get breaking news right, what is going on ?
The pictures tell the story not people in
    the studio.
