It looks as though AC is coming in second in the demo in his time slot, because he's doing what he's supposed to be doing, he's out in the field, where he began. It is where he can do the most good, and if it is repetitive for some, well than use your remote. That's why you have it.
ICN has a great post about what news should be.
I hope the bosses at CNN will read the item and
think really hard about CNN's commitment to news,
be it national or international. Right now there is
not a true news network in the United States and
IMHO CNN is missing a golden opportunity. There
is no excuse for not getting at least an hour of
real news, minus the talking heads and bickering.
Cable news uses outdated formulas and will not
be relevant if this continues. Where is the news
for grown ups ? I really don't understand why
CNN can't find a way to package a serious
prime time news program like the big 3 nets
with their evening newscasts. How about
John Roberts and Don Lemon ? I hope some
day someone like Mark Cuban will run CNN
and do hard news like he does on his HDN
channel or Vanguard on Current.
That is one thing that is missing from CNN's
Gulf oil spill coverage. An anchor who will ask
tough questions and let you draw your own
conclusions and someone strong enough to
say when something goes out on the air that
is just not right. Someone who will stand up
and say the facts matter more than hyperbole
and won't let the silliness overtake the real news.
Anchors, pundits and reporters should never be
put in the same boat. There has to be higher
standards for anchors and reporters.It is
apparent that credibility is not a serious
matter for CNN. The network will hire
Piers Morgan and it is another dumb move
and will sink CNN. Newsies are being
ignored by cable news but not the internet.
Thank goodness for legit news on the web
because it is the only way to stay informed
these days and we can all now say CNN
does not care about the news.
It was refreshing to see John King, Candy Crowley,
Wolf Bllitzer, Gloria Bolger and Don Lemon on
during the BP CEO hearing.CNN needs to use it's
very own journalists a whole lot more.
360 took a big hit last night and it doesn't surprise
me one bit. There was nothing but talk and rants
and complaints and it is beginning to sound like
a broken record. That is really sad with this being
an ecological disaster and needs to be treated
with a seriousness that is just not being shown
on CNN. Maybe CNN could try no pundits in
prime time and elevate the conversation.
People have shown that they do trust Anderson
Cooper to bring them breaking news. What they
don't like is when he lets them down. Perhaps
now 360 will reset and get it right when it
comes to covering the disaster in the Gulf.
If CNN is giving Piers Morgan a show, They
can no longer call themselves the most
trusted name in news or the worlldwide
news leader.Morgan was fired from a
British tabloid for goodness sakes.C'mpn
CNN you are better than this and don't
lower your standards for something that
is only going to ruin your stature.CNN
can't turn it's back on it's history.
Does CNN understand that those are federal
marsh lands because of FDR. The government
can't just let the local authorities do what they
want. Ultimately, the federal government will
have to restore this land. Apparently 360 has
joined the tea party and spouts anti government
hate and propaganda. 360 is off the dvr. There
is something that CNN is forgetting. Majority
of dvr owners are between the ages of 18-49.
They believe in global warming and are more
environmentally aware and know there is no
way the oil was not going to come on shore.
Environmentalists said this was going to be
a disaster and it was going to go in to the
wetlands because it is underwater and there
is no way to tell were the oil will go.
Does anyone else feel like smacking Tony Haywards face? He reminds me of Dennis The Menace, for those of us old enough to remember the cartoon, smirk and all. His testimony was so unremarkable and yet we all watched with bated breath, to see the devil that destroyed the Gulf, single handedly "fool with us." He's disgusting and we are all at fault for allowing him to get away with these antics.
CNN will be history real soon. The NYP says
CNN is really dumb enough to give Elliot Spitzer
the 8 pm slot rather than a journalist. Just
watch how high the ratings will go for Keith
and Rachel because CNN is finding ways to
make sure they are history. They are completely
clueless. What makes CNN management think
Elliot Spitzer and Piers Morgan will get people
to watch CNN. They don't have a following and
never will.CNN is already too heavy the with
political ideologue types and a female can't
be a solo anchor on CNN. Why in the world
would you go with people who have no
news value.CNN just sent their viewers a
message, we don't want any viewers in
prime time. Neither of these people will
make anyone turn from FNC or MSNBC
or HLN. It will just make them exit from
CNN. Let's see what they will do to mess
up 360 next.CNN will be in such ruins that
they likely will not recover for years to come.
I betting that CNN will drop down to less
than 400 thousand in prime time. No one
in their right mind thinks these guys are
going to do better against Keith or Rachel
they will do worse. In fact there will be a
lot of scratches for CNN.
CNN is going to take a huge ratings fall for this.
Rachel Maddow is up for an award from the
Television Critics Association and CNN is not
worth watching. When will CNN take off the
blinders and see it is about content. MSNBC
& Fox News are going to really miss Jon Klein.
Please take time to go to the 360 blog and
read letters sent to Anderson from some
kids. Some 60 kids wrote Anderson letters
about his Gulf oil reports. That shows the
power of journalism. These hipster kids
have been following Anderson on the web.
To me that speaks volumes to what Anderson
means to so many people who care about the
news. One kid even wrote for Anderson to
continue reporting on the spill even after
the gusher is stopped.If you connect with
kids on a story of this significance it is no
doubt Anderson Cooper is original and there
is nobody out there like him.
@3:14PM: Sorry to burst your small bubble, but it was on the "360 BLOG." The only posts that get on that blog are positive. It's all PR and little kids didn't write the letters to a gray haired guy. I know kids, their teacher gave them an assignment. Please grow up.
It's ALL PR. How many posts written by adults, are still in moderation, and then disappear because they're not considered positive enough. Pleaze! Give me a break.
@anon 3;14: "hipster kids have been following anderson on the web," Really? Hipster kids? Hipster kids if they are hip, are all on Face Book, following their hipster friends and texting each other, not following anderson cooper.
Ali Velchi actually reported something of interest this PM. He said in a business report to someone in the UK, that Tony Hayward was running many, many, other BP companies, some as far as Russia, and may have not known the intricate details in relationship, to the Gulf. It seems he had responded to the crisis just recently when things got completely out of control. So he may, justifiably not been stonewalling. He may in fact, been running a hundred or so more companies at the time of the explosion.
Not that he's ever going to be off the hook with us, after he's ruined the Gulf, but it is quite possible, he did not make any of the ultimate decisions.
The above, will no doubt, be his legal defense.
