By now many of you have seen TDS's take on Anderson Cooper's interview with Louie Gohmert. We thought it might be a good start for this weekend's conversation.

Lets hope that Anderson really goes out and
find some real news in NOLA and not just
stand around talking to James Carville. Video
is the story CNN not James Carville's take.
CNN is getting into more trouble. CNN is being
taken to task for not hiring Americans when it
comes to Larry King's replacement. Nothing good
will come from replacing Larry King with Piers
Morgan. The man has zero following and no ad
campaign is going to help.CNN has painted itself
into a corner again and people are betting this is
the end of CNN by their own hands. The big
question : why is TW setting out to destroy CNN?
Piers Morgan is not even liked in Britain.
I must say, I never thought I would see the day
when MSNBC would be doing more news than
CNN.I like the weekend anchors better than the
weekday anchors.AC360 is the only thing CNN
has going for it now. I am looking forward to
the reports from New Orleans. This is the 5th
anniversary and all of the networks are doing
special programs on Katrina.
Jon Stewart is hilarious :D :D haha
CNN needs a serious upgrade. Once they
get smart enough and get rid of Jon Klein
they can hire some 40-somethings to run
the news organization because CNN needs
to modernize and not go back to the 90's.
OK. Maybe ATC doesn't mind that these comments have NOTHING to do with the clip, but I do. If you are asked to respond to a Jon Stewart clip about AC, the subject should be about the CLIP!!! Not what you folks think or don't think. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS PLEASE.
My comment: Gomer Pyle is from Texas...that should answer the question about gaping holes in Gomer's brain.
Interesting article in Men's Journal about AC and where To Draw The Journalistic Line: from TVN.
He seems to find the need to "apologize" for saving the injured child, while cameras are rolling. He's constantly asked to defend his position on this questionable action..and rightly so. Whatever happened to the AC that said: "Step aside and let the story tell itself?" Someone needs to remind Mr.Cooper he is NOT the story.
There was nothing wrong with AC helping out
an injured child. Reporters do this all of the
time as well as news crews.
CNN had better find a way to bring in viewers
who are 55 and under. Going after Fox viewers
will not work. They are old and tend to not
change the channel.
I nominate Chris Licht to replace Jon Klein.
He is mentioned in an article about MJ on
MSNBC.CNN needs energy .I just don't get
the thinking behind Spitzer or Morgan. As
Jon Stewart would say , man you are CNN.
You just don't slap your viewers in the face
and I can tell you once CNN goes with the
lineup the press will be brutal and viewers
will not like it.It as if there are no standards
being practiced at CNN these days.No women,
no journalists and no black people. Rachel
Sklar was right.
@10:40am It was totally UNPROFESSIONAL. You don't make yourself the story in journalism and he will be asked to defend himself forever. It was worse than the tea bagging remark. He lost a lot of his creds. Just look at the comments on TVN.
Don't ever underestimate the demos of FOX NEWS. You're making the same mistake as Jon Klein and we can see where that's getting him.
The average age of Fox viewers is 64 that means
majority of their viewers are over the age of 70.
Fox does not have go demos and advertisers
know this. Besides the true demo that everybody
wants is 18-49. 25-54 is a made up demo.CNN
needs to be not care about FOx and concentrate
on what is best for them. All 3 of them will be
done in 3 years anyway because they are all
biased and all of their ratings are down.
CNN lost viewers trying to be FNC and not it
has cost them dearly.
How many time do you try and watch CNN but
only end up rolling your eyes and going what?
CNN needs to stop spreading the ignorance
virus that viewers are resisting. Stop spreading
fear and falsehoods when people in this day &
time probably know more facts than the pundits.
CNN needs to look at the data about the class of
2014 to see where things are going. Their parents
are the same way and they are more globally
connected and they know real news from fake
news because they exchange items on Facebook
and visit legit news organizations on Twitter
and Youtube permits them to see news from
around the world. CNN turned it's back on
their viewers. There power of the media is
changing to the digital world and CNN needs
to be more like CNN.com.
I agree that CNN has lost viewers trying to be something its not, but it is not clear to anybody what it is trying to be...that's the problem. It lacks identity so nobody knows from one day to the next where they stand on any issue and therefore not only does CNN lack identity, it lacks LOYAL VIEWERSHIP....across the board.
And a whole lot of people in their sixties have money to spend. They are retired, have worked all their lives, and have PENSIONS. They also are earning Social Security from working for many years for the same company. Those people who are hurt the most by this recession, are those who are not secure in their resources, have over extended themselves, and are fearful of losing their jobs, and it is about time advertisers realized, their "demos" ain't what they used to be, financially. I know this, because luckily, I'm one of them. If Fox News is relying on sixty year olds, good for them. We vote more often than not and are living LONGER. CNN is literally dying from OUR NEGLECT.
I see nothing wrong with Anderson rescuing that little boy. He did the right thing. It shows he has morals and knows right from wrong. Had he left the boy he would have been criticized for doing nothing. He can't win. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. I am glad he rescued that boy. That makes me respect him more. Some of what he did in Haiti made me lose respect for him as a field reporter, but him rescuing that boy restores my faith him in him that he really is a good person.
Ironically, you used a clip from Jon Stewart.
He has more credibility than CNN, MSNBC
& FNC. CNN should identify itself with news
and information. If you take the route of FNC
or MSNBC there is no room for growth you
will eventually max out. People need their
news quick and fast. If your reporters do
their jobs why do we need the analysis.
Loved the part of this clip when Jon Stewart answers Gomer Pyle by saying: He USED to be good, you mean when AC did "The Mole!" Cooper hates to be reminded of his Mole days and Jon obviously likes to "rub it in a little."
You never really know how Jon Stewart actually feels. Just when you think you do, he surprises you.
Thank you for the clip ATC.
@9:04pm: Have to agree. Jon Stewart, the fake anchor has "more credibility" than any of the real anchors on ANY of the networks, cable and prime.
And that says a whole lot about what's not happening with our media. Sad, but true.
Cable news ratings mean nothing. Facebook
is a nation with 500 million people. It is a no
brainer for advertisers and it is a wide diverse
group of people.CNN can't survive on ideology.
People are sick of it and going to social media
and advertisers are going there as well,CNN
must make everything available on multiple
platforms at once. I agree if CNN uses it web
content, material on their Youtube channel and
Time magazine and other TW publications and
concentrate on content and various forms of
storytelling they will be fine. But anyone who
just wants to focus on tv in this day and time
is just crazy. The internet has changed the
game and it is adapt or fade away. After all
of this time you would think media companies
would understand their content and resources
are their greatest weapons.
CNN should do shows like Auto Tune the News
or Tosh.O. Yeah Comedy Central beat them to
the punch and CNN will become more and more
irrelevant with is prime time lineup. How does
this even attract viewers.Oh who are we kidding.
CNN management is definitely not the sharpest
tools in the shed, They thought Rick Sanchez
would make a difference replacing Campbell
Brown. If you think John King's ratings are bad,
wait until the ratings come out for Spitzer and
Morgan. Can you say train wreck.
I am really digging the new HLN format that
starts at noon. Now if they would do 1 hr like
this in prime time. I love it news now and no
crawl. It has a current feel to it as though you
are getting the news as it develops. If this is
not a formula for 24/7 news I don't know
what is. This is exactly what the Sit Room
needs to be Wolf Blitzer checking in with
reporters out covering the news be they
with CNN, CNNI or CNN.com. You have to
look fresh and not stale.
Look at the ratings for CNN on Friday according
to TVN and it is not a pretty picture. That is what
is about to become the norm for CNN. I am not
sure how 360 will fare with the new lineup but
I don't think it can be positive. Maybe now CNN
will understand, knock it off with people talking
about President Obama's faith. Do you really have
to go that low?
Thank goodness for Jon Stewart and Bill
Maher. They use facts and show just how
ridiculous so-called 24/7 news channels
are at reporting the news.CNN used to be the
grown up news channel. So far in 2010 the
media has gotten so many of the stories
wrong by following the inmates running the
asylum. Stop getting you news ideas from
ideological blogs and talk radio. Try Google
and do your homework and quit being a
conduit to misinformation. Here's and idea
right after the pundits and others come
on show and make statements do some
research on what they said and call them
out for being misleading. Cable news is
not worth watching. They forced me to go
to the internet to find real news because
it certainly does not exist on television.
Cable news has been hijacked by extremists
and I will resist any attempts to rot my
mind and attempts to make me fearful
or hateful of anything.
CNN is making the same mistakes of the music
industry. They don't recognize the value of their
resources and is just thinking that people will
not find an alternative to what they are doing.
Guess what Steve Jobs realized that people
didn't just want to have to buy cds but liked
the choice of buying single songs. If they think
in this rapidly changing world that hiring former
politicians and fired tabloid journalists is the
future no wonder old media is dying.
Okay, TV by the Numbers has the ratings for
Monday and CNN only averaged 418,000 in
prime time. Now I understand that school is
starting but once the new falll season of new
tv shows starts that can't be good for CNN.
Not only that, CNN is starting to sink during
the day and the ratings for AM are getting
lower.CNN needs to come up with shows that
people want to watch or at least hire somebody
with some ideas to stop the bleeding.
If this is what CNN calls compelling television,
it is working just fine. You feel the compelled
to change the channel.
CNN wonders why it is in last place. Try looking
at what they look like on air. 5 hours of coverage
of primaries that affect what percentage of the
populace and they have the nerve to take a
smack at MSNBC via Twitter to announce this.
CNN does not get it. CNN will be 4th or 5th.
Why would you carry a speech from someone
that did not even have an opponent.CNN is in
complete denial and it will lead to them being
irrelevant just like MSNBC says.CNN's problem
is the content of their shows. There is nothing
of value in watching CNN. The network is
totally useless.
@3:52PM: Agree with you about election coverage yesterday and feel the same way about CNN's coverage of Nola. How many times is Cooper going to rehash what happened 5 years ago or to put it another way, "his glory days."
