Totals were not good for 360 this past week. The show has been on a losing streak even from NOLA.
Seriously I don't know what the answer is to make things better.
I do turn to FOX to see just how they handle panels and for some reason, take Hannity for instance, they seem, to have fun with it. They don't take themselves that seriously. So if they're having fun, the viewer thinks well, it's fun to watch.
Even Larry seems stiff and hard to watch now. We know he's leaving. He knows he's leaving, so we wait and the show gets worse.
CNN has become a "self fulfilling prophesy." The more gloom and doom that surrounds it, the more depressing it gets.
It will be interesting to see how CNN makes
out for the month of September. Will CNN
change the lineup before the end of the
year or just limp into 2011 ?
CNN take a cue from Steve Jobs and Facebook.
You have to constantly upgrade your product
and advance current projects. You can't stay
stuck where you are and expect something
for nothing. Jobs knows that he better start
a music blog because people love discovering
music and music is universal. That is exactly
why CNN should hire Toure or Douglas Cabellero
to introduce us to the music scene with indie
bands and indie music and and the music that
is out there that people are buying. Give us
original material and be a leader and not
a follower.I like having Isha and Amber Lyon
on 360. They are 2 fresh faces.
Now that September is here let's hope that
360 is live 5 nights a week. I think that has
something to do with 360's ratings dip.
People want news on 360 not pundits. The
original 360 didn't have pundits and you
saw stories you didn't see anywhere else.
In other words it was unique. Now I am not
sure but I am willing to bet management is
why 360 is messed up. Some nights 360 is
good. last night was good but some nights
I turn the channel if I don't like the lead
story.360 used to not dumb down the news
but some nights that is exactly what they
are doing.
Steve Jobs wins because he is always ahead
of the game and his competitors. It is a lack
of imagination and innovation that is killing
CNN. CNN should become the world's largest
source for content. It is that simple, Take CNN
& all of the TW properties and constantly add
new content each for 24 hours instead of just
focusing on the same old news over and over
again. Offer viewers the ultimate news journey
and experience. CNN has to offer us something
that is not available on FNC or MSNBC and
I would say that would be a wide range of
news or interesting stories and topics and
something you may not know about. Real
time news. CNN needs to be live more. The
NYT had an article the other day about how
some cities are coming on live with news
as early as 4:30 am. It seems there are
viewers this time of morning. CNN should
start new programming at 4 am. This is
not the time to be doing less news, CNN
should be doing more.
CNN it is about the news and not about you.
Do your job and report the news and stop
filling hours with boring talk. No wonder old
media is dying. Cable news is not the only
game in town. My Ipad puts the power in
my hands and I don't have to settle for lies.
The internet and mobile devices have given
consumers the power to get what they want
and you don't have to put up with what old
media is offering.
360 blew it again last night. When it comes to
the governor's debate in Arizona, why did Anderson
not interview people who could give firsthand
accounts of the the debate and the reporters who
were asking hard questions to Gov Brewer, Instead
we got two pundits. The talking heads just don't
add anything.I am pretty sure that CNN has
affiliates in Arizona. The segment could have been
much better. If you don;t believe me just visit any
of the local Phoenix affiliates and the web. The
reporting is amazing. You have to connect
with people who have front row seats not
looking from far far away. Did anyone at
360 think about trying to book the guy
who was the moderator. It just makes me
wonder if anyone in building ever says can
we do something differently. It is almost
like it is a knee jerk reaction to use the
pundits. All day long no one at CNN could
dig and find things out about the company
that owns the rig that exploded in the Gulf
or someone who helped rescue those 13
workers. Those pictures were amazing.
Do you guys know anything about Isha
Sesay ? She is so adorable, love the accent
and she gets AC to loosen up a bit. What
took them so long to find her?
Also loved Dr Sanjay Gupta's dispatch from
Pakistan featuring the kids. I really would
like to see more of the 360 dispatch segment.
Let's hope global mental floss becomes a main
fixture on 360.
Pundits are the reason John King's ratings are
just plain bad. It is all they do for a full hour
and it is an absolute yawner.I really don't
understand why CNN uses the pundits for news.
They are not journalists and don't represent
anyone accept for ideologues and themselves.
360 had better be careful here. Judging from
the promo for the new 10 pm show that is
coming on MSNBC real soon, it seems like
they are going for a pundit free show for the
hour and that will hurt 360 if they continue
to go with ideologues.MSNBC passed CNN
when they got away from left vs right and
went to solo interviews and CNN has yet
to figure this out. How can you have a show
called No Bias, No Bull but do just that for
an hour and Larry King was turned into
a circus with as many as 8 talking heads
shouting over each other. The choice is
simple you go with Rachel Maddow and
don't even get me started about Rick
Sanchez.
In an interview on TVN, Rachel Maddow said that it is a given in the news business that the minute you leave the studio, which she did 3 times this summer, your ratings go down.
I find this an exception, but not the rule...at least not where 360 is concerned. I think AC's ratings go up, most of the time, when he is out in the field. When he's in the studio, the show has no WOW factor. Maddow is a different kind of anchor. She gained her fame IN the studio.
Anderson gained his during Katrina and by being OUT in the field. So maybe he is the exception and not Maddow.
His ratings have been flat as a pancake in the studio. I'd say "Different strokes for different folks."
I think it is what you hit the road to cover.
If you hit the road to cover politics, nobody
cares. Not only is CNN going down but HLN
seems to be joining them. Things are not
going to get any better. Here comes football
and the new tv season.CNN can you say sports
show on weekends. It could come on at 9 in
place of Larry King. Call it something like the
Highlight Reel.CNN must come up with diverse
shows.I really do think that CNN should be just
like the 4 major networks, have different shows
each night at 8 but have regular shows for
9 & 10 pm. There once was time when you
could actually get all the news you would
need on CNN or HLN.
One of the worst decisions CNN made was to
get rid of the hourly news updates on the web.
CNN needs to get back into webcasting. They
should have kept Nicole Lipan & Richard Lui.
With the exception of Morning Express, HLN
is horrible. Digg is already trying a 24/7 real
time news website.CNN.com needs some work
to fix it.
360 was the only thing that got me to actually
watch again. I liked the nth degree, the music
and the sometimes interactive news when you
could participate in a test during the show or
watch Anderson put something to the test and
it was wide ranging and seemed to have no
limits. Sadly, I really don't like watching CNN
these days because it reminds me of why I
changed the channel in the first place. I used
to always look forward to seeing 360 and
counted it as one of my favorite shows. 360
can be good sometimes and bad on other
nights. I can say I probably will not be tuning
in to watch that much for the rest of the
year. If I deem 360 worth watching , I will
stay tuned.I know I won't be watching CNN
for the next couple of weeks just from the
promos.CNN is going full scale political 2
months before an election.CNN reminds
me of my dislike for cable news. It is too
heavy into politics and not the news. I
could see if this were 2 weeks before the
election but 2 months is too long. Look
for numbers to be lower.
