  1. What is happening at 10 is interesting. I am
convinced that if Anderson could find a way
to get close to a million viewers a night, he
could possibly top Greta. 360 the news show
is turning out to be the most popular prime
time show on CNN. 360 is overcoming a big
2 hour lead in problem. No one is building up
a league but 360 some how can be competitive.
It will be interesting to see if this is the norm
for the rest of the year.

  2. It all comes down to content for 360. If they
concentrate on news and interesting topics
and no pundit panels , 360 will grow and
    become more popular.

One thing I would like to see CNN do is to
pick up the pace of American Morning. I
see that TJ and Kiran are challenging MJ in
the demo. Why can't the 1st hour of AM be
about the fresh news that happened why we
were sleeping and the the big stories. I
think they should open the show with a
montage of video and news narrated by
TJ and Kiran and have they walk to the
anchor desk as a song like All the Young
Dudes with the news phrase or other
songs that apply to the situation. Take
what is happening in the Middle East.
How about Stand by Sly and the Family
Stone or Revolution by the Beatles or
even Keep Marchin' from Raphael Saadiq
and others. The playlist is endless and
make the content evolve during the 3
hour time slot. CNN has got to start
using music when appropriate in the
morning. AM can do the top 6,7,8
stories for each hour and have the top
    national news, international news,
health news, weather, sports and some
thing from papers and mags and the
internet. This are just my thoughts.

  3. Add reporting in with content. Story telling is
of equal importance. Let your people go out
& find the news. CNN will have to make some
decisions about programming really soon. I'm
pulling for a news show anchored by all of the
female talent from CNN, HLN & CNN I without
the politics.CNN needs women anchoring in
prime time. Just don't let it be The View, let
it be about conversation not shouting. It was
a big mistake for CNN to not have a female
with their own show in prime time.

  4. Perhaps CNN could consider a return to programming similar to the format Aaron Brown had. He had segments where he talked with the journalists covering the stories allowing them to share personal interpretations, background or side notes. It gave the viewer a better understanding of the stories in their entirety from the mouths of the professionals that cover these them day in and day out. These on-location reporters have so much knowledge that their 30 second news-bites don't allow them to share. Additionally, I've always enjoyed Reliable Sources, another way to analyze the stories that are out there beyond the headlines.

  5. Piers Morgan is fading fast. Once Dr Drew
starts Morgan could be 5th. He is just not
that good and does horrible interviews. I
really like 360 without the pundits. If it is
a political show that is one thing ,but 360
is not TSR or John King, USA.

  6. Piers Moron asks the same questions to every guest he has and gathers little insite. He has no depth, demension, or skill so he is well qualified to be on CNN.

  7. I remember reading somewhere that Eliot Spitzer did better in ratings when Kathleen Parker was off for a week. They need to go ahead and just take her off. He really doesn't seem to be doing that bad alone. Piers Morgan needs to move to HLN or to the weekends becuase his random interviews in primetime doesn't really go with the flow with the days news. I don't know why CNN had to keep the interviewing style of Larry King Live. The 9PM weekday hour should be CNN TONIGHT with Soledad O'Brien or another great CNN journalist. Piers Morgan Tonight should move to 9PM weekends or HLN.

On a side note, CNN finally took off the pointless "UPDATE" word from the news flipper. With the new (smaller) graphics now, the headlines were too squeezed together between the UPDATE and Time stamp.

  8. CNN still needs more work on graphics. The
drop box with facts does not line up and it
covers up video. Why not just put facts on
the bottom where the banner is ? They also
need to let maps and infographics be full
screen with no banners at the bottom. It is
still too annoying. It's simple : Piers Morgan
is boring and it is another bad hire for CNN.
I also think they should have a media bar for
packages with total time & time elapsed. I
haven't seen the changes to the crawl. It
sounds like a good move. With Apple &
Google getting into tv, CNN should have
a more digital hip look. I am a fan of live
motion words. Make it look like the crawl
is being textd right before your eyes add
video or pics so that it is more like you
see on CNN.com. Which needs to have
live tweets from CNN on Twitter as well.
CNN also needs to have real time tweets
from their reporters about the stories
they are covering for the day. There was
a story out earlier this week saying that
CNN drives a lot of Twitter traffic. People
want news and CNN has to be the provider.
Real time news would be a good move as
well , have your reporters doing real
time updates all day long.If CNN is really
    serious about viewers choosing stories,
let us pick the stories for an entire show
by letting us vote on the stories at CNN.com
    and really choose the news.

  9. Larry King says it best : CNN oversold Piers
Morgan. CNN knew the guy was a tabloid jerk
    & has zero news experience.Morgan can't do
interviews worth a penny and CNN went with
amateurs in prime time and Eliot Spitzer,
Kathleen Parker & Piers Morgan are not ready
for prime time. 360 seems to be making some
sort of comeback. Let's hope management
leaves 360 alone and not mess the show up
again. It has a nice vibe and news flow so
far this week. I think a Nightline type show
would be good for CNN right before 360.
Anything is better than PMT & Parker Spitzer.

  10. CNN = Failure and here is why. Suzanne
Malveaux talked about a story on a male
wrestler who would not wrestle a female
opponent. Instead of really telling us about
the young man who made this decision.
CNN brought on talking heads. What the
heck is wrong with CNN. I had to go online
to find out the real story. There are actually
2 female wrestlers and there were reports
from Iowa tv stations. Are they really that
dumb at CNN to not realize that they
should have used a report from an Iowa
tv station. I could care less what 2 talking
heads think. They have nothing to do with
the story. How do you mess that up ? CNN
    is clueless about journalism.

  11. 360 is losing viewers to the Ed Show in droves because it is not staying relevant.
Instead of speaking about Bahrain, AC should have been in Wisconsin, like Ed, interviewing teachers, firefighters, and cops, people that watch his show, or people who he'd like to watch his show.
Bahrain should have been part of the news bulletin. Not Wisconsin.
Wisconsin should have been the lead and this lack of relevant content is a signal that 360 is headed south.

  12. Larry King told TVN that they "over sold Piers Morgan."
    He's absolutely right.
The days of the one on one interview for the hour are over.
If we want info we can get all we need from blogs like huffpost and others.
Unless the guest is part of current events which is news worthy, they are just not worth our time or effort to watch.

  13. 360 needs to make a play for those young
viewers that appear to have abandoned MSNBC
at 8. That is not true about 360 & Ed. Ed has
TRMS which had 3x the viewers of PMT. It is a
whole lot more complicated than that with the
ratings. Take a look at al of the data for the
month of Feb 2011 so far.

  14. I always knew there was a reason I disliked Dana Loesch, who is currently a conservative contributor for CNN, although she calls herself, independent, and now I know why.
It seems Ms. Loesch not only indignantly rolls her eyes when she disagrees with you and is arrogant to boot and did I mentions smug beyond belief, but TVN has dug up some interesting quotes from her past, about CNN, "being run by idiots," that she now willingly works for, and Anderson Cooper, that she now contributes to on 360.. She is quoted as saying AC got where he is because of "silver spoons," Feb. 2009.
Anderson: It is not too late to get someone less offense to you and to your viewers. Most of us can't stand her and now we have good reason.

  15. It looks like CNN is moving towards an
aggregated crawl. Which is good, but it
needs to be updated more. CNN and the
HuffPo are different. Television can't be
a blog. Cable news relies heavily on video.
It is all about content. HuffPo just steals
news for legit news sources. CNN has to
    have original reports,storytelling & be
    thoughtful in presentation.Legit news
    orgs like CNN,NTY, Time.com & ohters
    are more popular than HuffPo.Internet
&tv are 2 very different things being you
can access the internet anywhere. Which
is why I don't understand why CNN does
not like stream CNN and CNN International
so that people can access the news from
all over the world. Still the big thing for
CNN to fix is content and to keep the news
current and fresh. CNN is connected with
dozens of stations. Why not talk to local
reporters about what is going on in
Wisconsin and not the beltway pundits.
I see it this way ,if you are not connected
to the news, why are you running your
mouth. It simply makes what is really
happening never come to light because
it is staged as an ideological debate.
The question segments on CNN don't
work they seem to come from right wing
media and that is why CNN is trouble.
When was the last time CNN did anything
    original.

  16. CNN keeps hiring pundits. Meanwhile look at
what Comcast is doing with MSNBC. Martin
Bashir will be on at 3 and Thomas Roberts will
be on at 11.CNN blew it big time and the recent
hires of more pundits will only make the ratings
tank to new lows. Also, there is a huge push for
a real 24/7 news channel and the BBC is moving
hard to make sure it is them providing a service
that CNN has decided to abandon. CNN failed to
go journalism and now they are paying a price.

I am surprised that there are days win TJ &
Kiran beat Morning Joe in the demo. Is it
because of W1 or are they actually getting
younger viewers? It will be interesting to see
who wins the demo race for this month.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I for one find Morning Joe boring. I flip between
Robin and AM. One of the coolest things AM does
is the video grid like they did right before Soledad's
story on Friday. I think AM is a work in progress.

  18. I am disliking the new blue graphics on CNN. First we have the crawl and then we have who is doing whatever, and the viewer doesn't know who or what to focus on and sometimes I don't even know what channel I'm watching.
Could CNN have thought of something with a little more appeal and less confusing to view?
MSNBC has the same exact graphics, except they are red.

  19. I agree that Eliot Spitzer should have his own show. I am convinced Ms Parker was off for a reason and Eliot handled himself with the confidence he always has, whether Parker is there or not.
She adds nothing to the show, nothing, and they need to drop her.
Her voice alone does not project, and she seems lost on larger fiscal issues.
As for the Ed Show, TVN ratings tell the story and 50% of the time, Ed has beaten 360,
It may be complicated, but in total viewers, 360 still comes up short.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Had to laugh at David Paterson's remark on TVN, in reference to former Governor of NY and his new CNN gig, Parker/Spitzer: "If it doesn't work out, I'm I'll be there to take his place."
All in reference to former Governor Spitzer having to step down for sexual impropriety.
