I will be watching. CNN has a head start on
their competitors Kyung Lah is already in Japan.
Just finished watching 360 on the dvr. How did
you know Isha would be anchoring after AC
took off or Japan ? Does that mean she will
be the back up anchor while he is in Japan ?
Good to see Josh Levs back on with the social
media connection with regards to the quake.
Hi, it is me again. Just out of curiosity, I decided
to check out the numbers so far for CNN. It has
already been leaked that CNN pulled ahead of
FNC at 2 AM with breaking news about the quake.
At first FNC was leading by some 100,00 viewers
at 1 AM. The 2 AM numbers are interesting, CNN
topped FNC 976,000/449,00 : 722,000.308,000.
MSNBC was not even close.I am wondering if
CNN possibly had more than 1 million viewers
when American Morning began at 5 AM.
The big question will be what did that mean for
American Morning & Fox & Friends. Since MJ
didn't focus as heavily on the quake, I have
a feeling they won't matter. The battle was
between CNN & FNC. Will TJ Holmes & Kiran
Chetry be able to increase the viewership
for CNN and be competitive or top FNC
in ratings. We shall all find out on Monday
or as soon as Sunday according to TV by
the Numbers. Sad to hear Tj is no longer
doing the show. It will be interesting to see
if this opens the door for Don Lemon and
Tj coming to prime time on weekends. At
least he exits American Morning on a
high note. AM should top Mj in the demo
and perhaps viewers once we get the Friday
numbers. AM is topping MJ in the demos
135,000 : 130,000. In viewers MJ is ahead
447,000 : 295,000. That is a difference of
only 152,000 viewers. Obviously Tj & Kiran
were bringing in younger viewers. The big
problem for CNN is how do you keep it
going without these 2 together anchoring
AM.I can say from watching the morning
team the vibe was very different and all
seemed at ease with each other. One thing
that does bother me about AM, how come
Rob Marciano is not in the same studio ?
I think MSNBC is watching it's back with
American Morning. Lets hope now that
TJ & Kiran are no longer the anchor team
it doesn't swing things heavily in favor of
MSNBC and hurt CNN badly. I am speaking
in terms of this week in the ratings because
Tj didn't anchor last week.It is a safe bet that
Tj clearly affect the ratings. No brainer.
Hope to have some thoughts on prime time
later today. I try to be fair and look at the
data and offer my analysis. I respect that
others will see it differently.
I like the info about American Morning because I rarely, if ever, get to watch that program and it's interesting to hear how it's doing and about the anchor interaction. I thought at one point that TJ Holmes had been named the permanent anchor with Kieran but apparently I had that all wrong.
I must say I am impressed that CNN is actually
crowdsourcing and putting I-Report to use.
Both Reynolds Wolf and Josh Levs are utilizing
the resources of I-Report and other social media.
Maybe in the future CNN will add a social media
manager as a part of their management team.
It is one of the hottest jobs right now because
some of the biggest businesses in the world
are now looking to hire people to do these jobs.
CNN is better at social media than the others,
sometimes in a really bad way but this works.
CNN stepped up and the coverage is outstanding.
CNN should get blockbuster ratings. When
the Chile quake caused a tsunami warning for
Hawaii on a Saturday, CNN averaged more than
3 million viewers and beat Fox. This time it
really caused an impact in Hawaii and the
west coast. The ratings for AM will raise the
roof. This was at the height of the tsunami
coming to Hawaii. CNN was lucky enough to
have people in Japan and Hawaii.I know I
stayed tuned for the entire show.
Okay. The nuclear reactor story is getting scary.
What precautions will CNN be taking to keep
all of their people safe if there is a meltdown ?
The network has teams already on the ground,
several en route to Japan. Stay safe everyone.
Will all CNN teams be equipped with monitors?
Here is the prime time rough draft for this week.
We all know the numbers for Friday will change
the picture dramatically.
360 : 750,000/285,000
ED : 1,066,000/304,000
OTR : 1,803,000/493,000
Will be looking to see if the numbers for Fri
will get 360 over 1 million, MSNBC went
with Lock Up. It should definitely make
things interesting in the demo.
PMT : 738,000/249,000
TRMS : 1,249,000/351,000
SH : 2,274,000/632,000
IMHO it is a 2 person race between Sean
and Rachel. We will find out if people
watched Rachel Maddow or Piers Morgan
and who got the bump MSNBC or CNN.
ITA : 528,000/150,000
TLW : 1,060,000/244,000
BOR : 3,216,000/802,000
BOR is the run away champ and that
helps his colleagues. Perhaps one day
CNN can find a way to challenge him.
It won't be Eliot Spitzer. Apparently.
people were not angry enough to start
watching ITA instead of MSNBC. One
observation : those younger viewers
are just not into the Last Word.
With Anderson Cooper being in Japan,
CNN will get a PT boost. Will that just
benefit 360 and CNN or help CNN for
180 minutes with ITA or PMT ?
CNN has made much better use of CNNi and its anchors, than it has in the past. They are staying current because they have always been more global and far reaching, but under Klein, they all but dissolved all of these valuable resources.
Very interesting to hear foreign accents and see foreign CNN reporters on the scene.
It is about time CNN stepped up to the plate and took advantage of their international team.
Hope Jautz, the current Prez realizes his stupdity when he said, "The news was not the star."
It has to be obvious to Ken Jautz that the news
is the star. Each month of the year so far we have
had breaking news . Egypt,Libya & Japan quake
& tsunami. CNN has not been hiring journalists.
It is a shame when non journalists like Spitzer
& Morgan can get a gig anchoring breaking news
on CNN. What kind of message does that send
to viewers. I think viewers are smart enough to
know that Eliot Spitzer & Piers Morgan are not
know for doing news. So why is this happening
on CNN. Bring in the journalists in prime time.
It shows viewers CNN means it when they say
journalism matters. That implies the journalists
are the engine of your news coverage but my
eyes see otherwise. Spitzer and Morgan have
not paid their dues like the journalists at CNN.
So why are 2 men with no news resume or
skills elevated above the journalists. It just
is not right and is the reason why CNN has
an identity crisis. The shows don't compliment
each other like FNC & MSNBC.CNN needs to
realize we are beyond the era when studios
cold cultivate an image that is accepted by
the masses. Social media has changed the
game and CNN is being called out for
being hypocrites.
@11:33AM: Eliot Spitzer, "has news experience," and loads of it.
He was the governor of NEW YORK and a good one. Do not put him in the same sentence with Piers Moron.
And before being governor he was attorney general of the state.
No, he is not a journalist, but that does not mean he doesn't have knowledge that is global.
New York, in case you haven't noticed, is the financial capital of our country and maybe the world.
He's spoken to all heads of state, and is far more equiped to handle any disaster than those that went, "to anchor school."
Eliot has steamrolled over one co-anchor and my guess is, he will steamroll over some of the others.
Give him time.
