  1. just 1 week to go for the July 2011 ratings. Some
4th place finishes will come out for CNN. 360
needs to be live 5 nights a week. Isha Sesay should
anchor live for the full hour when Anderson is not
there. It's not like 360 viewers are not familiar with
Isha and she already anchors at CNN International.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I would love to see Isha do an entire hour of 360 instead of a taped show.
She is talented and professional so what in the world is the problem?
    She's already on the payroll.
We may get our wish. With all AC has to do come this fall she may just be gearing for it.

  3. Isha Sesay has a refreshing anchoring style.
I hope we do see more of her on CNN. Isha
has that million dollar personality that comes
across a truly genuine. I have noticed that
360 seems to have added a little Isha & AC
segment after she does the bulletin. Could
it be she would have an expanded role in
360 once they move to 8 PM. CNN needs to
realize the talent they have with Isha Sesay.

    ReplyDelete
  4. CNN must be live for 3 hours in prime time. It
is crazy to think that some nights 360 will be
the only live show on CNN.IMHO the remedy
could be Isha Sesay. Just do a spinoff of 360
featuring Isha live at 10. Have her wrap up the
news of the day. Isha is already in prime time.
During the Japan quake she did anchor 360.
Call it something like 360 Update. After 8 you
would have no reason to watch CNN. Viewers
apparently like coming to CNN at 10. CNN
    can't throw that away. That's a mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  5. TV Newser has an interview with Mark Whitaker.
He had something to say about Anderson. Why
not let Isha anchor the women's show that gets
mentioned here ? She can pull it off.CNN has to
make additional changes in prime time. July is
going to be a downer in the ratings. Comfort
levels are important to viewers.360 viewers do
know Isha from watching 360. A 2nd live hour
of 360 with Isha could keep those numbers.
    Give her a spinoff.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Mark Whitaker is CNN's VP.
So is he NOT going to pat himself and Anderson on the back and say nice things about his hire??
    I think not.
Yes, we can have the humor, but it needn't be in daytime and it doesn't have to be every nite.
If occasion arises and there is time in the show, then the funny side of AC can show. But honestly, I rather see more of Isha and more bantering between her and AC, and less of AC's FORCED humor. That gets old really quick and I'm not alone in my thinking.
    Many times, less IS more.

  7. Really soon CNN will likely have an opening at 9 .
There are still lingering questions about Piers
Morgan and phone hacking. Daily Beast, HiffPo,
Forbes,BBC and more to come.No comment from
CNN. I would say Piers Morgan's days at CNN
are about to come to an end. Management can't
    hide much longer.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Jon Stewart went after Don Lemon tonite on TDS.
Actually he was making fun of CNN,
again, and showed how many really stupid things Don had to read from the teleprompter that made very little sense.
He also made fun of both sides of the aisle and asked Obama why he was asking US to call upon Congress to get its act together.
"You're supposed to do that Sir. You're the President!"
Can't argue with that line of reasoning.
I have to say, I learn more from Jon Stewart than any real anchor on any of the networks.
If Mark Whitaker wanted to quote anyone it should have been Jon Stewart. HE IS THE REAL DEAL.

    ReplyDelete
  9. @1:09PM: We can only hope.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Good News folks. According to Huffpost: "Piers Morgan Appears To Acknowledge Use Of Phone Hacking in 09!"
In a conversation with a BBC radio host he is heard telling him that he authorized and used information from his editors for publishing.
If this is in fact true, he's in a whole lot deeper than we could ever hope.
    This is the evidence!!
If he authorized it, he knew it was being done. He was an accomplice.
Hope he's packing his bags and just think, we can help!
So let the betting for the 9 o'clock hour begin!

  11. CNN hire George Mark Paul Stroumboulopoulos.
George speaks the language of Jon Stewart. Of
course, he would have to do The Hour because
Strombo Tonight runs 30 minutes. It is as close
to The Daily Show as you will get. Yes AC is the
anchor of the future not bound by ideology but
shows like Strombo have news value too and
needs to be seen on CNN.

    ReplyDelete
  12. News executives hate Stewart and Strombo.
These 2 show just how lame 24/7 news is
and don't insult your intelligence. Stewart
& Strombo are smart and use humor the
right way to mix it with news. Think about
it . Cable news is the total opposite. Yes it
would be wonderful if CNN did something
different for once but I don't think CNN
would ever hire Strombo. It is a shame that
Strombo is not widely available in the U.S..
Some of us are able to get the show. If not
it is online. To me Stewart & Strombo are a
little different.Strombo is more newsier and
is not a comedian.I think he could get those
younger viewers to watch CNN. We are a lot
smarter about current events than cable news
thinks. Cable news execs just don't understand.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think we might see Don Lemon appearing on
The Daily Show. Brilliant. JS used an anchor on
CNN to show just how silly and gimmicky CNN
    is too many times.

Anybody is better than Piers Morgan. I think no
one will miss him when he is no longer on CNN.

Sanjy Gupta & Isha Sesay were great last night
on 360. I loved it. I still love Anderson. He says
via a tweet he is back tonight.

  14. How CNN is covering the debt ceiling shows just
how out of touch and disconnected CNN is from
the public. The train has left the station. People
are saying raise the debt limit already and CNN
continues with the who is the blame craziness.
ABC News got it from the start and CNN is still
clueless.CNN needs to quit trying to shape the
discussion. The public wants compromise and
don't want to hear from pundits. How about
reporting what is happening each day and going
through the options or scenarios. CNN move
on already. We are so over bickering from the
pundits on your payroll.Do you job and report
    the news for goodness sakes.

I studied government in school. Last I checked
legislation just does not pass in the house and
go to the White House. Hello, CNN there is a
Senate. Also there is the 14th amendment that
can be invoked in situations like this. This is
man made and the public gets it.We know this
has been going on for some 6 months now.
Good thing we don't rely solely on CNN or
else we would be clueless. Drop the talking
heads. They are making you look bad. Like we
don't know he deal. CNN might not get what is
going on but we know for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I hope Anderson keeps The Ridiculist as part of the show. I love it and I love AC and Isha banter - she is a great foil for him.

HuffPo reports that Ed Henry got shut down by White House press secretary. Good move for Ed to go to Fox, he really fits right in with their belligerant and fact-free style.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes, the public wants this debt ceiling crisis to END, CNN!
We're NOT taking sides. President Obama got it right....Congress is dysfunctional but that doesn't mean that going right up to the dealline is OK with us.
We elected YOU to do a job and we expect it to get done and we also expect our Social Security checks, OUR MONEY, to go out ON TIME!
Most of us doen't give a hoot what the Tea Party wants. The Tea Party makes up a small percentage of voters so all of you, get your act together and function!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Even though Jay Carney said there were X number of proposals set forth by both the POTUS and Speaker Boehner, Ed Henry, it seems to me, got it right.
Nothing the President has said so far, is an actual proposal and the public has yet to see any precise details of what was, in fact, outlined. Is it a secret??
Ed Henry may have had his faults, but from what we can actually see, this is NOT a "Fox thing."
Ed was always far more aggressive than Jessica Yelin who is now CNN's Senior White House Correspondent.
Jessica should have stayed an anchor. She's better suited for reading a teleprompter and copy that isn't her own.

    ReplyDelete
  18. How much MORE does the President have to compromise with the Republicans/Tea Party? THEY are the ones who created this unnecessary crisis and THEY are the ones who refuse to accept ANY offer and the public knows this and has begun to turn on them, and rightfully so. Boehner, et al, is owned by the Tea Party and must do their bidding and therefore he allows himself to be drawn into their insane worldview. I don't think Republicans used to act in such an irresponsible manner, until Bush/Cheney/McCain/Palin & Bachmann and the like came around. McCain at least has the sense enough now to distance himself from their idiocy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sorry, but I see Ed Henry as nothing but a shill for the right wing and Fox and he was like that when he was on CNN. Carney knows this as well and saw through Ed's little act. The President makes proposals and the Republicans-Tea Party move the goal post.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It is just like CNN to take a poll on ITA which Tom Foreman was hosting tonite, asking the public their opinion on,"How well God is handling his job!"
Delightedly Tom said 52% of the public thought God was doing well.
    Really? 52% huh.
And if that 52% thought God was doing poorly, what would we do?
Get Donald Trump to fire God?
I no longer take anything CNN does or says seriously. If they have the audacity to make someone like Tom Foreman read that "crap," and say it as though it was actually meaningful, when it is pure nonsense filling up air time, than nothing they say or do will impress me.
I don't care whose mouth it comes out of....it is nonsense!
Oh and it was on "natural disasters!" Shouldn't it read how well humanity cleans up the mess??
No wonder Jon Stewart keeps making fun of CNN....there's just so much to make fun of.

    ReplyDelete
  21. False advertising from CNN, How can they have
a 360 promo with Anderson Cooper saying that
the show will have great journalism and reporting.
That did not happen tonight. 2 segments were
repeats with pundits going on and on about the
debt ceiling. Once is too much with pundits. Am
I missing something or on the wrong channel
because lately there has not been much reporting
or journalism on CNN. Opinion lasts for 30 mins.
CNN is boring down 360 again.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm tired of hearing the phrase "The American people want"... None of the idiots in DC know what the American people want and neither do they care.
What the American people want is a President that actually leads and a Congress that obeys and follows his leadership, like it or not.
    Why? Because he's the President!
And it's about time HE started to act like it and invoke the 14th Amendment. Like it or not, that's why it was put there and yes, it is legal and no Boehner and his buddies wouldn't like it, but it will stop a Nation from defaulting.
If the Congress is dysfunctional, it isn't helping by feeding their dysfunctional personalites.
Someone has to be the grown up and take the bull by its horns and stop playing games Mr.President .
    TIMES UP.
THAT'S WHAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT!

    ReplyDelete
  23. @11:53PM: You are correct.
But you have to start telling it like it is, please.
Don't blame everything on management. Maybe just maybe for once, blame the anchor.
The anchor is busy doing other things and he also writes and rewrites copy.
We don't need pundits. We need the anchor to tell us how he feels about DC's lack of leadership and he's not doing it because there are other things on his mind.
If you're going to complain, complain about substance and don't be superficial.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well, the anchor has never wanted to give out his political opinion, even when he didn't have so much on his plate.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anderson Cooper is the best. That said those
segments do need to be shorter and avoided
if possible. I just turn the channel until they
disappear or skip it on the DVR. 360 seemed
to have new graphics. Much needed and looks
good. Personally, I would much rather see
a segment with Anderson & Isha talking
about the news and interesting stuff than
the pundits. It is definitely a way to get more
news in and a more enjoyable segment for
360 viewers. It is an insult to see these idiots
come on TV and tell us what we think. You
have to wonder why CNN is trouble. Jon
Stewart schooled them years ago about the
pundits and they keep failing the class. I
am so over grown people acting like kids.
For your viewers sake CNN keep off pundits.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jon Stewart speaks the truth. Jon points out the
real reason we have deficits and how the very
    politicians complaining about spending caused
this financial mess. He's not going to repeat talking
points or go with the theme of the day usually a
phrase coined by some political type. Jon also
brings the media to task for absolute insanity and
not doing their jobs, Anybody can get people
to come on and argue about anything. Why is CNN
so in to that ? Bore viewers to sleep.

CNN has already missed a big story today. Banks
sent President Obama and each congressperson
letters saying they have to reach a deal by the
end of the week or else it is too late.CNN needs
to do some constructive useful reporting rather
than political talking points. The pundit game
is getting old. Start hiring real journalists or
at least bring on people who can actually have
an intelligent conversation based on facts. it
is really sad when a comedian cares more about
facts than CNN. Stewart relies on facts. Not sure
of what CNN relies on but than again CNN is the
cable news channel that sets aside an hour of
prime time for celebrities. Can't take CNN
seriously when it comes to news.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Let's be fair. There is one man on CNN who has
gotten the debt ceiling fiasco right. That's Fareed
Zakaria. Anderson needs to have him on 360 more.

If the rumors are true. CNN is moving 360 to 8 to
calm down advertisers.CNN's prime time lineup is
just not too attractive. Advertisers want 360. Team
360 had better get in gear. If 360 goes with the
pundits at 8 ,they will tank. They also need to
understand that longtime 360 fans don't like this.
360 once stood out in cable news as unique.A
nonconformist news show. I worry that 360 is
morphing into opinion. Nowadays there are no
wide ranging guests who are not pundits and
come on to have a real conversation with
Anderson. Why ? 360 viewers deserve better and
360 don't you ever forget that. Don't dumb
down 360 to the point that makes my favorite
    news show unwatchable.

There is nothing wrong with the Ridiculist or
Anderson & Isha. It is the guests list that is
lacking and not worth watching. Put some
effort into 360, please. You owe your viewers
    that much.

I don't know if 360/CNN cares about what
I have to say but that is my 2 cents and I
am a CNN customer. I happen to be one of
those with CNN,DVR and mobile devices.

  28. The numbers for July 2011 come out before
Monday. CNN, FNC & MSNBC know the ratings
for this month. 360 will have low ratings for
last night;s show. CNN is waiting until Aug 8
to get a month of ratings. 360 needs to get
it's act together if they want viewers a 8 PM.
It is going to be tougher in the time period.
Keep being lazy at your own peril. When the
July numbers come out CNN will feel some
heat about their prime time lineup. Down
goes CNN is going to be the headline. CNN
will be dead last. FNC & MSNBC worry more
about HLN than CNN. Their competitors know
that CNN is self destruct mode. Piers Morgan
can't even bet a sub for Rachel Maddow.
FNC & MSNBC are so grateful to CNN for
making their ratings at 9 go up.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @12:01PM: You are right. We, as viewers would like to see more of Isha and Anderson and way less of the pundits, but Anderson wants us to see what he is presenting or he wouldn't present it.
HE has more say about what his show is and isn't than people WANT to give him credit for.
By now if HE SAID "Let's not have pundits," CNN wouldn't have pundits on HIS SHOW.
So let's assume that SOME of the responsiblity is HIS AND HE WANTS PUNDITS OR THEY'D BE GONE.
He wants the Ridiculist or it would be gone.
He writes his own copy which is what he reads on the teleprompter.
So SOME, NOT ALL, OF WHAT WE NOW SEE is his responsiblity.
Unless of course he doesn't care, and that, right now, is a real possibility.
    DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE HIS CLOUT.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The Ed Show had exactly one million viewers last nite in totals.
    Why?
Because Ed speaks the language of the working class.
360 could use some of that language and it is a mystery to me, why Anderson never spoke to the exact people he wants to watch his show in daytime.
Who does he think is home???
If he wants to pick up viewers, speak their language or is he above it all?

    ReplyDelete
  31. If the news president at CNN says put on pundits,
360 and all shows have to take their marching
orders. Nobody can challenge Ken Jautz except
Jim Walton. The anchors are not that powerful.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If Anderson indeed has a lot of clout and say-so on 360, I sure as heck would like to know why he'd have on that clown Representative Joe Walsh. This guy (as he disrespecfully kept calling President Obama) is nothing but a dead beat dad and a Tea Party extremist. Chris Matthews would've (and has) ripped him to shreds. Is he the best representative 360 could come up with? I do not share Anderson's obvious admiration of Ron Paul, who is an extremist on a different level. I suppose I should be grateful that the horrible Dana Loesch has been MIA from 360 for quite a while, but while Carly Fiorina is not as loud and belligerent as Loesch, she is just as big of a liar. Anderson rarely has on Democratic politicians, not sure why that is, but I do think he leans a little to the right although that may not be the reason Democrats are often scarce on his program. I was rather shocked but pleasantly surprised when Steny Hoyer was interviewed and Jeffrey Toobin elevated the conversation in a most welcome way.

  33. There is a fascinating article featuring the
thoughts of a former CBS NEWS producer.
He hit it right on the head about what is
wrong with the news. No evolution since
it all started. That's bad. His reasoning :
executives are too afraid to take the risks.
That leads to the same thing over and
over again. That leads to outdated and
not very good formulas that in many
ways don't work in this day and time,
It makes no sense that CNN is so heavy
with more opinion than news. CNN will
continue to lose viewers unless they
evolve and revolutionize. There are no
signs of innovation at CNN. They need
to start with firing the talking heads.
We are in the digital age and CNN still
has not caught on about content and
video. Television is a visual medium.
CNN may not get it but Youtube, FB &
Twitter do. The news has to be people
    centered and not politically centered.
Old media had better find their Steve
    Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Google and
Twiiter people who can bring them
kicking an screaming into the 21st
century.I see more innovation on this
blog. Clearly some ideas are risky but
at least they are forward thinking and
not backward thinking. Will cable news
start hiring people who are 50 and
under. CNN is so behind the times. We
are in an era in which people can do
live streaming for hours of events. Yet
CNN can't be live for 3 hours in prime.
CNN has got to get the celebrity show
off of the daily prime time lineup. CNN
missed a golden opportunity and they
blew it by hiring Eliot Spitzer and Piers
Morgan. Why because they are way too
scared to do anything else and it is
costing them dearly. I don't think you
    can undo the self-inflicted damage.
CNN made all of the wrong choices and
still is not moving to actually fix CNN.
Is there an executive who is willing to
take risk and bring CNN into the 21st
century ? I don't see it. CNN is a real
big mess and getting messier, The 2
changes they made caused CNN to fall
behind and that deficit is growing with
viewers. It is incredulous when you see
some of the things on CNN these days.
Lack of vision and ideas is a recipe for
disaster. You admit you made mistakes
and move to fix them.CNN makes me
turn the channel. It is getting harder
and harder for me to stick with CNN.

  34. According to TVN, viewers are really getting into this debt crisis, the closer the Aug 2'ND deadline comes.
Ed beat AC/360 by only 5,000 viewers and both hit the million plus mark.
This is a good sign. It shows people becoming more alert and angry about what is happening in DC and how really dysfunctional gov't is and that INCLUDES THE POTUS as well.
If Obama does not raise the debt ceiling on his own, whether he wants to or not, it will show a lack of leadership on his part.
This cannot be a good sign for the coming election.
We need leadership in Washington and this is HIS BIG MOMENT TO ACT OR WE DEFAULT and that can't be an option. Whoever is advising HIM right now better get it right.
