Your Views on the News 7/2/11

If you read between the lines it looks as if not much will change with CNN's programming until September 26th. That's not surprising, major changes in CNN's lineup traditionally are rolled out in September. Rumors that Erin Burnett will be in primetime were bolstered this week when TVNewswer posted a Burnett ad for a senior writer, from the Turner website, that specifically classifies the program as 'nightly'.
If you want a good read NPR has a a look at CNN and it's Executive VP and managing editor Mark Whitaker. Whitaker acknowledges that CNN has been thrown off course but he still seems high on Morgan and Spitzer. Follow the link to read.
I'm sure you have an opinion on all this so now is your turn!

  1. If you guys get the chance go to Current TV's
website and check out Worst Persons featuring
Jessica Yellin. Keith Olbermann says it best. CNN
is lost; there is no other way to describe the dire
situation that the network finds itself in and not
only that everyone knows CNN is using talking
points for those stupid questions, political topics
and coverage. CNN must think people are really
stupid. You can't say you are a serious news
network and do what CNN does. People can see
it just does not jive.CNN might as well just go
out of business since they are out of the news
business. CNN is owned by right wing activists.
Because of this CNN is afraid to do anything but
what the right wing wants. The tea party controls
CNN. They say jump and CNN says how high.
CNN really thought they could pull one over on
viewers and ended up playing themselves. If
CNN were really a news channel, would Piers
Morgan promos be airing nonstop. Are you
sure I am not watching E. Shouldn't we be
seeing promos for news shows on CNN. By
the way you know CNN is not getting off the
    island for years.

  2. I get the feeling that Current TV is taking aim
dead straight at CNN. Informania is going off'
the air and it looks like they are making the
transition to more news. Obviously, there are
some real weak points at CNN and they are
really obvious to anyone. That makes me wonder
if Countdown is beating both In The Arena &
Piers Morgan. Don't be too sure that those viewers
are coming back to CNN. Nobody has anything
positive to say about CNN these days.

  3. On the SOTU today, Candy Crowley went from speaking about the American Dream being lost and joblessness with Suze Orman, to none other than celeb person Russell Simons.
Why in the world would we relate in anyway to celebrities??
Why not speak to regular people who are out of work?
In a local paper, one poor soul killed himself after losing his job two years ago and couldn't find work. There are hundreds like him who are just getting by and Candy thinks we want to see celebrities.
Yes, that will help and how does Russell Simons RELATE?
Tell Me. I want to know. Oh, he was poor once. Well he's no longer poor and he hasn't suffered during the recession and neither has Suze Orman. She's on her what, tenth "how to book" and both have more money than they know what to do with.
    PLEASE CNN. NO MORE CELEBRITIES.
    REAL PEOPLE WANTED.
Hasn't the failure of Piers Morgan taught you anything???
    Evidently NOT.

  4. CNN used to be respected by it's peers for
what they stood for. Now CNN is ridiculed.
Remember the Lost viral clip with all of the
cast saying the word what because the show
had gotten so confusing. You can watch CNN
for 2 minutes and have the same reaction.
What. None it makes any sense.

  5. Yes, Erin Burnett will save CNN from self destruction.
Presumably she will have the 8PM slot, this is not written in stone, and she alone will be opposite Bill O'Reilly.
Just like Campbell Brown, you remember her, dark hair and poor ratings who transferred from NBC and was hand picked by the late Tim Russet.
And then there was blonde Paula Zahn who really knew nothing about anything except that the poor girl acted like she did, and she too, had ratings even poorer than Campbell.
So what can we expect from Ms Burnett?
As a former friend of "The Donald," and one who is in tune with the business set, will she or wouldn't she save CNN and if so, how?
We really don't know and it is hard to judge, but from the looks of things, she's an awfully slow starter.

  6. It is so disheartening to see what CNN has become.
When management allows Piers Morgan is the face of the network, you know you are in trouble.

  7. That is exactly why CNN should go with an
ethnically diverse group of female reporters.
If they put Erin Burnett on solo. It will be
Campbell Brown or Paula Zahn al over again.
If you go with Erin Burnett, Isha Sesay, Alina
Cho and Jennifer Del Gado and all of the CNN,
CNN I & HLN female talent that is different
for cable news. Use music that women can
all relate to.No politics. Fast paced and wide
ranging stories and conversations. No politics.
John King just did that. Don't have anything
be the same each day. Use music to open
and close the show. Open with an edited
highlight reel of stories to be featured on
the show. Take a song like 32 Flavors
mixed in with the video and bites. Have
bump music in and out of the commercials.
End with a song as well. Aint No Sunshine.
CNN needs to stop the insanity and stop
doing the same things over and over again.

  8. Let's get real here.
CNN paid Erin Burnett big bucks to become part of the CNN brand.
Do you really think, for one minute, she is going to willingly share the spotlite with an ethnically diverse group of women??
    Think again.
This lady is a control freak and she's not into sharing.

  9. Erin Burnett may not help CNN much at all.
CNBC is seen by less than 300,000 viewers
each day. Surprisingly, millions have no clue
who she is or if they will like her show. Will
CNN just change the face at the 8 PM hour
and do the same thing ? The CNN brand is
kinda dead right now and someone has to
revive it. Unfairly, like it or not Erin Burnett
will be compared to Paula Zahn and the
last female to be on at 8, Campbell Brown.
It would still be the Erin Burnett Show. She
would be in control. You would just have
other female journalists on with her for
the hour. I think Erin Burnett solo presents
a CNN is repeating history again. In the
end I think Erin Burnett wants to have a
successful show and escape the comparisons
with Zahn or Brown., Erin Burnett alone will
not attract women viewers. CNN should
really take dead aim at women. These are
millions of potential viewers who cable
news can't ignore. Think about a potential
Sex In The City news show for CNN. The
    show's ensemble worked because women
could see themselves in the 4 characters.
CNN needs to create an alternative to BOR
and The Last Word. Neither show has a
large number of female viewers. They each
bring their own journalistic and fashion stye
and musical taste while delivering a wide
ranging news program built around news,
    interesting topics fascinating people, not
    necessarily celebs, smart conversations
and yes fun stuff. Hey from time to time
even have live music guests. CNN has to
look like it is working to really fix things.

  10. Don't forget the female sportscaster from CNN I.
The name escapes me now. Women like sports
    too,

  11. This blog is on to something and I hope that
CNN management does read this blog and if
they see something they like or are interested
in and would like to learn more to contact one
of the Anonymous people here. Obviously we
all watch CNN and would like to continue to
watch CNN. There are some good ideas here
that can be explored. TV Newser is now going
with what would you do to fix CNN. I hope
CNN would consider the ideas mentioned on
this blog and not TV Newser. Too often on
TV Newser and Mediaite the posts have
nothing to do with news. I think people here
actually watch CNN and care enough to come
to this blog. Keep up the good work.I know
people complained about this on TV by the
Numbers and Bill said don't read comments
posted about the cable news ratings.

  12. Shut the front door. The jury says Casey
Anthony is not guilty of murder. CNN can't
go with ITA & PMT. We know it is the lead
on 360. Could there be a 360 special at
8 PM ? This is a real shocker. The ratings
are going to be through the roof all day
and into prime time. She was facing the
death penalty. There needs to be some
analysis of what happened. Come Thurs
    she is free.

  13. You have a point, can you imagine Client #9, providing analysis for an entire hour regarding the Casey trial.
    I shutter to think!

  14. I will be glad when the trial and everything is over. Is there no other news?
