TNT has greenlit Monday Mornings, a powerful new series from award-winning producer David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, Chicago Hope) and practicing neurosurgeon and CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, M.D., on whose book the series is based. The medical drama stars Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction), Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2, TNT's The Company), Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica), Jennifer Finnigan (Better with You), Bill Irwin (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Keong Sim (Glee), Sarayu Rao (Lions for Lambs), and Emily Swallow (TNT's Southland).
Monday Mornings (formerly known as Chelsea General) is produced by TNT Originals and David E. Kelley Productions. Kelley and Gupta both serve as executive producers. Kelley penned the pilot episode, which was directed and executive-produced by Bill D'Elia (Boston Legal, The West Wing). TNT has ordered a 10-episode first season of Monday Mornings, which is set to premiere in summer 2013. TNT has teamed up with Turner Broadcasting System International, Inc. to produce this global series. The show, which will air on TNT and Turner networks around the world, will be distributed by TBS International outside of the United States and Canada.
“Monday Mornings is a superb drama brought to life with passion by a gifted ensemble cast and some of the best creative minds working in television today," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "David, Sanjay and their team have given us an outstanding addition to TNT’s stable of high-profile dramas, and we’re very proud to have it on the network."
Set at the fictional Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Ore., Monday Mornings follows the lives of doctors as they push the limits of their abilities and confront their personal and professional failings. The title refers to the hospital’s weekly morbidity and mortality conference, when doctors gather with their peers for a confidential review of complications and errors in patient care.
Leading the staff at Chelsea General are Dr. Harding Hooten (Molina), the steely-eyed chief of surgery, and Dr. Jorge "El Gato" Villanueva (Rhames), the hospital's trauma chief. Their cadre of medical talent includes hotshot neurosurgeons Dr. Tyler Wilson (Bamber) and Dr. Tina Ridgeway (Finnigan); the abrasive Dr. Buck Tierney (Irwin); the socially challenged Dr. Sung Park (Sim); the petite-but-formidable Dr. Sydney Napur (Rao); and inquisitive resident Dr. Michelle Robidaux (Swallow).

Some of you have mentioned Stroumboulopoulos.
Well, it seems Dr Sanjay Gupta will be on with
George on Monday night. Maybe Strombo will
come to CNN someday. I admire Dr Gupta.
You all might also want to take a look at Charlie
Rose he had Jeff Bewkes on his program. Charlie
asked what was wrong with CNN ? His response
was a little strange.
Good for Sanjay.
Looking forward to seeing it in the summer of next year.
Sanjay deserves this because CNN has over looked praising him and he is an exceptional talent.
I predict a hit.
Dr. Gupta is great and I have also noticed has been showing up on 60 Minutes as well. Is CBS planning on poaching CNN's best talent??? Maybe they could make better use of them - CNN seems to insist on screwing it all up.

I saw that interview on Charlie Rose with Jeff Bewkes and it was VERY interesting. I was glad to at least hear him admit that they could be doing better in the ratings and he would like to. But this idea of CNN being the trusted source in hard news is exactly the image the people say is dying. Yes, CNN WAS the trusted source for hard, serious news, but they don't seem to deliver it anymore. Fewer anchors and personalities have real credibility. Even Anderson is catching a lot of heat for his other TV adventures and it is chipping away at his image as a newsman. Piers is a joke. Burnett is not taken seriously at all. Half their daytime lineup lacks seriousness and the content is increasingly dumb and superficial. Rose is right - people no longer know what CNN stands for. Bewkes rhetoric sounds great but people who watch CNN know it doesn't match reality. Pundits have ruined whatever decent talent is still there. How can you sit by and allow two of the three primetime anchors be utterly incapable of handling breaking news or anchoring large events? Morgan and Burnett need to be scripted and pre-programmed and even then they are, it's still not the best. People can see right through it and they lose trust with the CNN brand as a result.
Jeff Bewkes sounds like Les Moonves before he
changed the management at CBS NEWS. He has
someone in mind. Who will be the new CNN
management team ? CNN can easily get overlooked
in a company the size of Time Warner. Anderson
and 360 are both owned by TW. Doubt very seriously
if TW wants to stop producing Anderson for the
company. Millions are made in syndication.
Syndication is not what it once was money wise, and TW is not making money on Anderson if no one is watching, day or nite.
Why do you think they're sending AC to Syria?
Because TW is losing money on 360.
While they well may be able to sustain these loses, the "piling on
negative commentary" that has hit major pubications about where CNN is headed, is not good news.
And one major factor is that Anderson hasn't left his anchor chair since the start of his wonderful, Emmy nominated, disaster of a talkshow, began this past September.
His creds are on the line.
