CNN Plans Special Coverage of President’s Prime Time Oval Office Address on Iraq
CNN anchors Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper will lead live, global coverage of President Barack Obama’s address on Iraq at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31. Anchors Candy Crowley, John King and Fareed Zakaria will join other members of the Best Political Team on Television to discuss and analyze the political and national security implications of the president’s speech and his decision for Iraq. In addition, CNN correspondents will be part of the conversation from around the world, including Ed Henry from the White House, Arwa Damon and Chris Lawrence from Iraq, and chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta from Pakistan.
Special coverage begins on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer at 5 p.m., midnight in Iraq which is the exact time when the United States combat mission there is scheduled to officially end. As everyone who has been following CNN's Haiti coverage knows aid is very, very slow to reach Port-au-Prince and other cities affected by the earthquake. Monday Warzone Updates
Nic Robertson is doing a rotation in the Baghdad bureau, and this morning he spoke with John Roberts about whether Iraq is stable enough to start the drawdown of American (and Brit) troops. It's sandstorm season in Baghdad, as you can see from the yellow sky:
Barbara Starr had an interesting report about two generals who have spoken out about getting treatment for PTSD in the hopes of removing some of the stigma the military still wrestles with. Personally, I'd be a lot more worried about someone who witnessed battle and its aftermath and had NO problems coping with it... and it is well past time that we got our troops the help they need:

The Pentagon, Kyrgyzstan, Iraq, the VA, and the UAE
Pentagon Correspondent Barbara Starr reported Wednesday on a wrinkle in our plans for the war in Afghanistan -- and it's about a base in the country of Kyrgyzstan. It's a former Russian "breakaway" country and Putin wants it back. And he's willing to pay them enough money to evict us:

We're trying to make sure we get clips of everyone on the CNN "team" down in the Gulf Coast... poor, wet, crazy folks that they are! Wish we could also give shout-outs to all of their crews, as well, but I guess they will just have to tell their families who they were out there with!

Beauty, Brains and Chris Lawrence!
As I was considering who or what deserved my undivided attention for this week's stellar blog entry I could not resist a little Youtube fun with CNN hottie Nicole Lapin.
I do not use the term 'hottie' often when it comes to women, but Nicole has been officially given the moniker by Maxim magazine.

Which got me to thinking....didn't Maxim miss a few great looking CNN women? I'm thinking Kyra Phillips, Betty Nguyen, Abbie Boudreau, Brianna Keilar, Susan Roesgen, Zain Verjee and Erica Hill should have made the list...just to name a few. Fox News has nothing on CNN when it comes to beauty and brains.
Speaking of good looks and brains did you catch Chris Lawrence's first installment in CNN's tour of six historically Black Colleges and Universities? It aired on Tuesday from Florida A&M University. The next stop on the HBCU tour is North Carolina Central on Thursday, April 10.
CNN has also launched a Campus iReporter contest in association with the Black in America tour at each of the six HBCU schools. CNN, together with the National Association of Black Journalists, will choose one Campus iReporter from FAMU, whose prize will be a digital video camera. The winner from each school will also be able to submit additional footage from their Black in America campus stop to win the grand prize: a trip for two to the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans over the Fourth of July weekend.
The HBCU tour will include a trailer outfitted with a jumbo television screen, along with video kiosks, where participants can submit their video response to a programming-related question via iReport. Bernard Shaw Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Congratulations to Bernard Shaw. The National Association of Black Journalists honored the former CNN anchor with their Lifetime Achievement Award at their annual convention in Las Vegas.
This honor is awarded to a black print, broadcast or photojournalist with a minimum of 15 years in the industry. Nominees in the category may be living or deceased and must have or still be making an extraordinary contribution to the enrichment, understanding or advancement of black life and culture.
