Hey it's me, Phebe, in for BA tonight. Not that this was planned, just a last minute switch. Unlike Book Asylum's thoughtful, well planned posts mine is going to be a 'fly by the seat of your pants' type of thing. First a few tidbits, courtesy of our wonderful Julie.
• Alina Cho must have the most active social life of anyone at CNN. Last Friday night Ms. Cho attended the 'Young Friends of Venice' Ball at the Bowery Hotel in NYC. Her escort was John Dempsey. Cho also attended NY Fashion Week's Tuleh show with Dempsey in February.
• Roland Martin began his stint as Campbell's sub this past Monday. When Campbell was in the anchor chair the program's executive producer was David Doss, also the man in charge of AC360. While Campbell is on maternity leave Scott Matthews will take over as exec producer of NBNB.
• DL Hugley has bid ado to CNN but he told the Daily News TV editor that he hated to leave when the program was so successful (yes you read that correctly). To read more follow the link.
• On March 26th mediabistro.com's Morning Media Menu had Jack Cafferty for a guest. They talked about his new book, "Now or Never: Getting Down to the Business of Saving Our American Dream" among other things. To listen follow the link.
I read with interest all of the suggestions you readers had for how to improve the CNN lineup. Most of your ideas concerned the anchors at the newsdesk and the prime time programs. I would be interested in hearing your opinions on CNN's reporters. Who are your favorites and who makes you want to flip the channel. Freshman Year
Have you been watching the latest reality TV series? CNN is following two freshman congressmen and posting their stories online.
What's it really like to be a new member of the world's most powerful legislature? Two new U.S. representatives are teaming up with CNN.com to report their "Freshman Year" experience through videos and commentaries.
Jason Chaffetz and Jared Polis are taking video cameras with them as they negotiate their way in the 111th Congress, both inside and outside Washington.
They both won convincing victories in November in neighboring states, yet they are world's apart. Utah's Chaffetz is a conservative Republican married father of three who is sleeping on a cot in his congressional office to save money. Democrat Polis from Colorado is a former Internet entrepreneur who is one of the wealthiest members of Congress and the first openly gay male to be elected to the House of Representatives as a freshman.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz is a freshman Republican congressman representing the 3rd District of Utah. He was elected in November, winning two-thirds of the vote against a Democratic challenger.>
• Jared Polis
Rep. Jared Polis is a freshman Democratic congressman representing the 2nd District of Colorado. He was elected in November to the seat held by Mark Udall, who ran and won for U.S. Senate. Polis defeated his Republican opponent, gaining 62 percent of the vote.

Catching Up On Change
We've been Don Lemon fans for a while now and it seems that we are not alone. Our researcher Julie found this article on Variety.com last week that touts Lemon as a CNN rising star worthy of watching. We couldn't agree more.
Change has indeed come.
It's been a remarkable sight as America has beheld that charismatic fortysomething black man with the 100-watt smile -- you know, the one who made his name in rough-and-tumble Chicago before rising to national prominence during the Bush administration. It's gotten to the point where you can barely turn on the news without seeing his beaming visage.
No, not him.
We're talking about rising CNN star Don Lemon, who's been damned-near ubiquitous of late, especially during the net's Inauguration-related coverage, which included graphics directing viewers to Lemon's Facebook page (his authorized page, as opposed to the "I Want to Marry Don Lemon" and "Don Lemon Is the Shit" fan groups). He can also be found at LinkedIn, MySpace, Twitter and as a contributor to the cabler's "Black in America" blog.
"We think the world of Don," says Bart Feder, senior VP of current programming for CNN/U.S. "There's no question that he has a following, and he has a lot of perspective to bring to the table."
Feder admits that Lemon's being young, handsome and African-American in the age of Obama is also part of what he brings.
"One of the goals of the network has been to have many different voices and true diversity of thought," he says. "And adding Don to a panel adds to that, and that's a good thing."
