A CNN Bromance

It seems Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer are involved in a bit of a bromance. First we caught wind of it was on the season finale of Hot in Cleveland.
To set the scene for the clip; Betty White's character is looking for a sign from her dead husband that she has his approval to get married again. She hears an owl in the tree and wonders if that's the sign. Valerie Bertinelli's character offers to take a closer look for her...

Then just last week Anderson Cooper interviewed Joy Behar on HLN and the conversation turned to Wolf's abilities in bed. If you missed it here's the clip.

Monday afternoon I was flipping through the channels (which I do when CNN shows are in commercial and I caught the tail end of Dr. Phil where I saw now other the HLN anchor Nancy Grace. Well thanks to the invention of time shifting on television (best thing EVER!) I was able to record the program. Below are clips of when Nancy was on. CNN’s digital newsgathering operations garnered its third prestigious honor for innovation in recent months during the 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards dinner on Monday, Jan. 7, for developing an unrivaled portable kit that enables journalists to report, edit and produce news packages from nearly anywhere on the globe. The National Academy of Television and Arts and Sciences presented the award at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas .

David Sheehan Joins CNN as VP for Content Licensing, Sales

David Sheehan has joined the CNN News Services executive team as vice president for CNN content licensing and sales, it was announced today by Susan Grant, executive vice president of CNN News Services. In his new role, Sheehan oversees CNN ImageSource, CNN Worldwide’s content and stock footage licensing business.

“David’s vast understanding of the video licensing market provides focus to CNN ImageSource,” Grant said. “In particular, his experience and knowledge put us in a position to anticipate the needs of the full range of broadcast, corporate and commercial clients.”

Sheehan comes to CNN from ABC News VideoSource where, under his direction, the network saw record sales of ABC News’ stock footage. He also established key partnerships with a range of content partners. Sheehan joined ABC News VideoSource in 1995.
He serves as co-president of the Association of Commercial Stock Image Licensors, a nonprofit association dedicated to promoting and advancing the professional interests of the stock footage industry. Sheehan earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Kenyon College.

A Mixed Bag of CNN Goodies

CNN Newsroom anchor Heidi Collins served as emcee for the ASHP at the 42nd Annual Midyear Clinical Meeting in Las Vegas. Heidi served as emcee for the session in her role as spokesperson for National Foundation for Celiac Awareness. Collins exhorted pharmacists to learn more about celiac disease and the presence of gluten in medications.

Jon Klein recently had an interview with the New York Observer. A couple of things caught my eye.

*Mr. Klein suggested that Campbell Brown’s new 8 p.m. show, set to debut in February, would compete by being “more talk-oriented,” by featuring fewer “formal pieces,” and by on occasion capitalizing on Ms. Brown’s sometimes-comic sensibility towards the news, à la Comedy’s Central The Daily Show. “Jon Stewart should not corner the market on innovative uses of tape,” said Mr. Klein. “He wishes he had access to the amount of material we get in every day.”

*Under Mr. Klein’s direction, CNN documentaries have married high-profile CNN reporters with equally high-profile subjects—Christiane Amanpour and religious fundamentalism, Campbell Brown and political attack ads, Anderson Cooper and the environment. Mr. Klein said he encourages his reporters to draw conclusions in their documentaries—an upshot of which, he acknowledged, is that CNN docs increasingly “step on some vested interests, and they do respond.”

Updates on past stories

According to People magazine, Nancy Grace's twins have been able to go home this week.

Nancy Grace will take her daughter Lucy Elizabeth home from the hospital on Saturday to join her twin brother John David who was released on Thursday, her rep Patty Caruso tells PEOPLE

The CNN Headline News anchor "is thrilled" at her daughter Lucy's progress. "She is over four pounds and doing extremely well. Nancy is so happy to have both her children home with her," says Caruso.

Grace, 48, gave birth early to the twins Nov. 4 having suffered a pulmonary edema during pregnancy and developing fluid in her lungs that prompted doctors to perform a C-section. She was released from the hospital on Nov. 16 and remains on medication.

On Monday, Grace, who is married to investment banker David Linch, told PEOPLE she was "torn up" about leaving her twins in the hospital. She expects to bring the twins home to New York next month

From Inside Cable News, Former CNN anchor Marina Kolbe's discrimination case has come to a conclusion:

A U.S. District Court jury deliberated for five hours before deciding Wednesday in favor of CNN, which claimed that Marina Kolbe’s contract was not renewed because of her average performance and failure to improve.

Kolbe had worked in Atlanta for CNN’s International division for four years when in 2003 the network failed to renew her contract. Kolbe, then 42, was replaced by a South Asian anchor.

“We are obviously pleased with the jury’s verdict. It not only shows that CNN does not discriminate, but also validates CNN’s commitment to diversity,” the network said in a statement.

A Debate, A Fit Nation and A Speedy Recovery

Tonight was the CNN Democratic Debate from Las Vegas, NV. Wolf Blitzer moderated the debate along with John Roberts (birthday boy), Campbell Brown (first official onscreen duty), Suzanne Malveaux and the best political team in the business. Here are some pictures from the debate.

Last night, CNN’s chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta moderated the network’s 2007 “Fit Nation Solution Summit,” a forum on public health and obesity at Time Warner Center in New York City, with featured guest former President Bill Clinton, business people, community activists, and other civic leaders. During the event, CNN presented KaBOOM!, a nonprofit organization that unites communities and corporations to build playgrounds in underprivileged areas, with a check for $75K to build a playground in New Orleans , La.

Way to go Fit Nation!!!!

As we reported on ATC last week, Nancy Grace gave birth to her twins. This past week Nancy was rushed to the hospital due to complications from the pregnancy. Nancy husband spoke with People magazine about Nancy's condition as well as the babies. We at ATC wish Nancy a speedy recovery so she can be with her beautiful new son and daughter.

According to the Associated Press, Nancy Grace gave birth to twin babies on Sunday. Apparently Ms. Grace was suffering from pulmonary edema and her physician felt it best for her to deliver two months early.

Baby boy John David and baby girl Lucy Elizabeth and their mommy are all resting comfortably and Ms. Grace is expected to return to her show as soon as possible.

CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports on the surprising science behind how diet affects the body and brain and how unhealthy food remains central to the American diet despite growing consumer awareness about health.

CNN: Special Investigations Unit – Fed Up: America’s Killer Diet will premiere on Saturday, Sept. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 23, at 8 p.m., 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. (ET).

Fed Up is the first CNN documentary to be broadcast in high-definition television.

The documentary features Adrian McHargh, who embarked on a steady diet of fast food following his family’s relocation to Kennesaw, Ga., from Kingston, Jamaica, just over a year ago. The 12 year-old gained more than 30 pounds and developed high cholesterol, high blood pressure and borderline Type 2 diabetes. After enrolling in an innovative three-month program with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta that included weekly visits with a nutritionist and a personal trainer, Adrian changed his eating habits and lost 15 pounds.

Congratulations to Headline News anchor Nancy Grace who announced that she recently got married and is expecting twins in January 2008. The stork is definitely working overtime at CNN. Nancy married David Linch — an Atlanta investment banker she has known since they attended Mercer College together in the late 1970s back in April of this year. Nancy is 47 years old.

CNN's Beck to Take Mic At Stadium of Fire

Glenn Beck, plus 25,000 people at LaVell Edwards Stadium, plus fireworks, equals what promises to be a memorable Fourth of July. The headline act for this year's Stadium of Fire is Brooks and Dunn, who will perform a full 14-song concert. Not to be outdone, however, Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. and his band, "Politically Incorrect," will perform a few songs to open the night.

Disney will be a theme of the night, with fireworks set to Disney songs. Disney Channel star Corbin Bleu of the Disney films "High School Musical" and "Jump In" will perform, along with a handful of backup dancers. While Bleu may be dancing on stage, the annual performance of the Stadium of Fire Dancers is slated to be the most complex number ever performed at the show. It will feature more dancers than ever -- about 1,000 teenage girls.
Patriotism will not be lacking either. Much of the fireworks show will be set to patriotic music, and members of each branch of the armed services will be honored as their service hymn is played.
The whole of the event will be broadcast to troops around the world via the American Forces Network. The celebration will take place July 4 at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
