  1. Give me a break. When was the last time
this guy actually watched CNN.Reese had
an interesting story about his old network
on Huffington Post. CNN is probably losing
some of it's viewers to CNN International
for the hard news. Americans need global
    news more than ever.

  2. For CNN to have such a large news operation
how come the reporters don't seem to work
that much. Maybe ABC is right. Hire the new
breed of backpacks. At least they work their
butts off and can provide original material.

  3. Loved that article. The entire thing was about Klein's denial. Cooper could stay in Haiti for the rest of the year and the ratings would still be after the Weather Channel and Klein thinks that's just "swell."

  4. If Jon Klein is dismantling CNN's news
operation that is not just smart. CJR
took a look a the newsrooms at FNC
& MSNBC and reached the conclusion
that they really don't have much of an
    operation. Personally, old and new
have to coexist. The trick is to find the
right mix.CNN needs to do something
    other than politics 24/7.IMHO AM
needs to add a couple of more people
and go with 4 hosts. Have John & Kiran
but rotate with people from CNN I. &
CNN and the new breed of journos.
The other morning shows are not
the same thing over and over again.
I could understand this if CNN were
a local news station without the
resources so I don't get why they use
the loop format. For goodness sake
CNN book better guest.CNN is not
very good a story selection. Most
    importantly. There needs to be
a move away from the talking heads.
In the age of FaceBook, YouTube,
I-phone apps that let me stream
my own live shots to my computer
and being able to set up my own
    broadband channel on the web.
Current TV is way ahead of the game
when it comes to the new style of
journalism. I can tell you that the big
3 have noticed and the digital reporter
for NBC was one of the original people
to file what Current calls pods.CNN had
better be real careful because if you
have Fios you can get ABC News Now,
CNN International & the 24 hr BCC
network. Finally, CNN needs a more
inviting set. The anchors are just
sitting at the desk. They need open
sets in both NYC and ATl. Call a news
loft is you will. So you have a library
area where you could do interviews
have a globe and maps on the wall
a table and chairs for gathering and
    please be conversational. There are
way too many times when I fell CNN
is talking at me and not to me.

  5. I did notice that 360 is having more one on one discussions this week and no panels. It has been better, not great, but better.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I like the 1-on-1's better as well,
I think as a result 360 is getting
    better numbers. One thing CNN
needs to do is have John Roberts
and Kyra Phillips anchor the AM
    show.CNN's day numbers are not
    looking to good these days.CNN
    'had better find solutions. One
big mistake they made was to
get rid of the 2 internet reporters
    on TSR.

  7. CNN needs to play the rebel and resist the
ideological box that tv news seems to give
into way too often. America needs a real
news channel.I hope we see someone willing
to take on the so-called 24/7 news networks.
They are not doing their jobs.

  8. I am interested in how CNN will cover the
Coffee Party. Not everyone is angry and bitter.
There are those of us who seek solutions rather
than stroke the flames of fear, hate and anger.
Those 3 elements are words used to describe
CNN in a lot of social media. People are sick
of it and are tuning out to the hate feast that
CNN displayed starting the summer of 2009.
People see trough the attempts by MSM to
absolutely misinform the public. The facts
are thrown out of the window in favor of
the faux issue of the day. One huge mistake
that has been playing out on CNN all week
long is trying to connect stimulus money
to the education crisis. The crisis they
are talking about is nothing new it has
been brewing for the last decade. Most
states use real estate taxes to fund schools.
By the way CNN there are school districts
that are not cutting staff or closing schools.
No doubt there are huge problems with
the American education system and it
is a topic that needs to be covered.
It is funny you can go to local media
in Kansas CIty via your computer and
see CNN is not giving you all of the facts.
That is the major issue with CNN these
days the network leaves out too much
of the story and it is fairly simple to
bust them by launching a Google search.

  9. Looks like CN thinks everything is all
about the Tea Party. You know the
Coffee Party is on to something when
the right wing media machine is in
overdrive and CNN has received the
    talking points.

  10. Speaking of schools, Bill Maher had an excellent monologue at the end of his show Friday in defense of teachers. It seems NewsWeek's cover had a chalk board with kids writing "We must fire the teacher."
Maher's take was, "We must fire the PARENT." My feeling exactly. When are people going to become accountable and stop blaming poor behavior on everyone but themselves...in this case poor parenting.

  11. CNN = failure. It is a race to the bottom for
CNN. Instead of hiring more journalists to
expand the news operation someone has
decided to go with politics and ideology.
MSNBC learned the hard way you have to
do news.Bloomberg is successful and it
does not even care about ratings. CNN
    is not a news channel.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anon 1:38 am you are so right. The media
madness of just fire the teachers is very
one sided and does not address the serious
    issues facing American students.

I really wish CNN would try and hire the
    journalists behind Vanguard.

    Here is the list :

    Mariana Van Zeller
    Adam Yamaguchi
    Kaj Larsen
    Laura Ling
    Christof Putzel

As some of you might know Vanguard
airs on Current TV and it puts the
    major networks docs to shame.
Throw in Amber Lyon and you have
some really kick butt journalism and
    original reporting.If you guys ever
get the chance take a look at their
work on HULU and you would see
    everything CNN should be.

  13. I would like to see Anderson and Team 360
go to China, India, Africa/Mideast, South America.
I think it is important for CNN to bring us news
on the emerging economies and countries that
are building mega cities. We live in a global
village now and nothing will change that.

    ReplyDelete
  14. @10:21AM: Evidently, Maher has not yet seen or heard the CNN "Know it NOT," Steve Perry...the Educational bimbo that was hired because he was ghetto raised and learned to read and write.

  15. CNN is in trouble for not covering the news.
Last week there was a protest in DC in favor
of health care reform and it was ignored by
CNN and all of the other networks, yet CNN
said tonight it is covering the Tea Party on
Tuesday. I am starting to wonder if CNN
has ties to the Tea Party since they bought
ads on CNN, Something is just not adding
up and it will eventually come out. With
regards to international news that is a no
brainer. CNN is the only American news
network that has a global news reach.
It is really sad that the news is ignored
by CNN domestic. There is a huge appetite
for global news and CNN should have
global news on for 2 hours a day it is
    essential and necessary.

  16. I really missed Betty this weekend. CNN's
weekend talent seems more focused and
has better topics than CNN has on all week.
CNN should rotate between Fredericka &
Brooke Baldwin after American Morning and
give Kyra back her old time slot and come
    up with a brand new 4pm show.Maybe
World Report can air before the Sit Room.
CNN has to do something about the 1-5
pm hours it is just not working and CNN
is actually losing viewers.I feel bad for
John King because another political show
    at 7 will not fly.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Absolutely right. John King is being wasted. He did well with SOTU so why switch something that was working. Give it a chance!
TJ sat in for Ali today and was HE REFRESHING. Why can't Klein see that? Weekend people are being wasted as well. But we're only the viewers. What do WE KNOW?
Ali stammers and stutters and Sanchez can't read a map. Just unreal.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't think there is "a huge appetite for global news," sadly. However, the BIGGEST mistake CNN made was discontinuing CNN International at 1PM on both coasts...the two biggest markets. Run it for an hour and give the two "jerks" in the PM less air time. It would be an interesting distraction from Domestic fare.
