CNN's programming schedule has been very dynamic this week and this weekend's line up is no exception. In response to the discovery of two car bombs in London, CNN will be airing Christiane Amanpour's The War Within on Saturday and Sunday's Special Investigations Unit.
From a CNN press release: The first CNN: Special Investigations Unit documentary will be a one-hour examination of the troubling home-grown Muslim extremism in the United Kingdom. Reported by Amanpour, The War Within examines the cultural conflicts within Britain's Muslim communities and the alienation felt by many young Muslims living inside Western societies.
For more information on the program see this behind the scenes article, Amanpour: Radical, moderate Muslims battle for young English minds, written by Amanpour.
The War Within will air on Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1, at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. All times Eastern.

Battlefield Breakdown
Battlefield Breakdown premiered at 6 a.m. ET Saturday morning! Additional airings are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30 and 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1. All times Eastern.
There's currently no indication when Battlefield Breakdown will be rescheduled for its premiere. If you'd like more information about the program CNN's website has links to several related stories. Including Battlefield breakdown: The full price of war in Iraq and Behind the Scenes: U.S. sees headway in fight against roadside bombs in Iraq (both written by John King).

Danger: Poisoned Food
Also airing this weekend from Special Investigations Unit is Sanjay Gupta's Danger: Poisoned Food: Saturday, June 30 at 6 a.m. & 3 a.m. and Sunday, July 1, at 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. All times Eastern.
This program investigates the effects of an E. Coli outbreak and the safety of the food supply in the United States.
Although this is an excellent program, I stongly recommend not watching this while you're eating dinner.

John King has done several interview this past week on Battlefield Breakdown. CNN's John Lisk spoke to King about the program. The podcast is available for free from iTunes, CNN's website, or here's a direct link to this week's podcast.
King also did an interview with Total information AM KMOX 1120 in St. Louis. The podcast of the interview is available on KMOX's website or this direct link.

Laura Bernardini Interview
Seven Days Vermont's Alternative Webweekly interviewed Vermont native and CNN Producer, Laura Bernardini. Excerpts from the article:
Asked why CNN didn’t make more of Rumsfeld’s refusal to answer questions about his leadership, or lack thereof, while on the public payroll, Bernardini told us they “were not focused on the politics of whether or not we should be in Iraq. This piece is solely focused on the toll of a long-term commitment.”
Actually, the refusal of Rumsfeld and Gates to be questioned by CNN about the Bush administration’s pathetic planning for the Iraq war says a great deal.
“I’m not going to draw a conclusion,” said Bernardini. “We’ll let the piece stand for itself.”
Trust me, it does. And it will get a lot of attention.
“Battlefield Breakdown” will air this coming Saturday and Sunday evenings at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. And, yes, it’s well worth a watch.

Great post BA......you are right this has been a crazy scheduling week for CNN and if anyone knows it, it is us......I have had to change my posts a couple of times to keep up to date and it is still changing :P
Ok I am going with my first thought on the mystery journalist.....I could be wrong but I will say Kiran Chetry......whomever it is I love that necklace :)
Wow, you ladies are really knocking yourselves out this week! Great Post BA.
Now, can I just vent for a moment. CNN pulling JK's special for this old special is really questionable. We have all seen this special over and over again. I was really looking forward to John King's special. This is another big bummer.
I've been questioning CNN's programming department's decisions all week and this just adds to the head scratching.
NOW, I know Candy Crowley wears nice pendant necklaces like that so I'll guess Candy?
What's up CNN?? Are all the "suits" there on vacation? In the past couple of weeks I have to wonder what's up with their choices? :/
My guess is Erica Hill :)
Sheryn beat me to it, I think it's CC also. Great post but I'm sad that we have to wait to see the JK SIU.
@sapphire, sheryn, phebe- thanks!
I was a bit disappointed this afternoon when I heard that JK's SIU had been postponed.
After thinking about it, I was a little surprised that they are running The War Within this week. I was expecting them to rerun it closer to July 7th Anniversary of the London bombings.
(OR will we see it again next week as well?)
It seems that most of the programs of CNN even those shown on cnn int'l were mostly repeats. What the heck is happening to their programming dept.? I can already count in my 10 fingers the number of times they have shown repeats of a certain program.
I think it's Candy Crowley. She al ways wear tops with wider necklines.
@ BA, great post! I'm beginning to like this game.
What the heck is going on at CNN
lately?Is everyone asleep over there?They must be trying to lose what little viewers they have left.I think they really need new management,because their programming decisions suck!
I think the mystery journalist is Robin Meade.
Love to come visit this site-great work!
I was very dssapointed when I head thayt John King's SIU won't be on this weekend. I was really looking forward to it. We've seen this speical that they're going to show.CNN has been really screwed up this week. I don't know what's going on there. Maybe they need to make some personell chages.
Now as for the mystery journalist. I'm going to say it's Soledad O'Brian.
@copperfish & anne carter- thanks!
*rant alert*
Just on the off chance that CNN's SIU website was inccrrect, I decided to tape the SIU repeat at 6 a.m. & much to my surprise found Battlefield Breakdown! Don't get me wrong, I'm positively thrilled that it is airing, but what is CNN thinking?!?!
How can you expect people to watch a show if they don't know when it's going to be on?
If you're going to premiere a new show, why wouldn't you do it in the primetime time slots?
There are times when I wonder if the folks up in the glass tower making these decisions are ever in touch with reality. They show very little regard to their viewing audience and to the hard work of their journalists.
*sigh* I'm done ranting. I'm going to go watch Battlefield now.
Battlefied Breakdown was on at 6:00AM??? I missed it??? Why would you air a new show at 6:00AM on a saturday??? No one is up then. No one is going to see it. What the hell is CNN thinking??? Anyone know when Battlefield Breakdown will be on again???
@ACAnderFan- it will be on again Sunday (July 1) @ 6am & 2pm (ET).
@bookasylum, thnak you. I guess I'll tape it at 6:00am, kind of and odd way to air a NEW SIU. CNN has been weird lately.
I just saw Battlefrield Breakdown after having to tape it at 6:00am this morning.
This is by far the best SIU I have seen. It was very interesting and John King did an excellent job. It's sad the way the war is and how ill prepared this country seems to be. My heart goes out to all who are fighting this war.
