Democracy and Diplomacy versus Drugs and Hate

Thursday a major report on Afghanistan was released, and SecDef Robert Gates addressed the issues as well. Wolf Blitzer covered that and then Atia Abawi reported on the latest fight in the drug war there. Apparently less drug money is going to the Taliban than we all think:


Meanwhile, Ivan Watson reported Thursday on the campaigning going on in Kabul as Afghans prepare to vote this week. President Karzai did appear on a televised debate over the weekend, and still enjoys a huge lead in the polls:


Cal Perry (who is still in Islamabad) had an exclusive interview with AfPak Special Envoy Richard Holbrooke:


In Iraq, Arwa Damon reported today on the continuing persecution of gays:


And Sunday night, Don Lemon replayed Michael Ware's report about the Mexican drug cartels branching out into new businesses, including human trafficking. Michael then did a Q&A with Don:

TUESDAY: Jessica Yellin was at a Town Hall meeting in Lebanon, Pennsylvania; Ali was in Manchester, Tennessee. Wolf Blitzer was in for Larry; John Roberts was in for Anderson.
