It will be interesting to see how CNN will do
when the Olympics are over. Right now they
seem to be the network that is taking a big
hit. For the last 2 days CNN has become the
conservative network. Clearly the just don't
get it. Not conservative is not even close to
being a special series. It appears the goal
is to turn off viewers and it is working.
How can they not see that people don't
like what they are doing?
I'm really beginning to feel sorry for CNN. LKL has been especially good this week with some top guests, Bill Maher, Judge Judge, Priscilla Presley.
Maybe like the programs we watch, they might try shaking things up. Put weekend anchors on during the prime hours during the week and some prime anchors on weekends or mornings. It couldn't hurt.
CNN needs to fix the noon to 9pm hours.
All women of different ethic backgrounds
at 8 is the only way to shake things up.
Right now there is just no diversity in
cable news in prime time and that is
a huge problem.
I meant Judge Judy. You would think I never reread what I write and I do. anon 8:52PM
The problem is not with the day time anchors, so it seems. It is with prime time where there is more money in advertising.
You would think that they'd integrate some of the Olympic achievements into their broadcasts.
MSNBC is doing well because they are doing just that as part of NBC.
That's what CNN gets for messing up 360
and giving Campbell Brown the lead show in
prime time.ICN said it best when the decision
was first announced, what is the difference
between Zahn and Brown ? The answer is
absolutely nothing.CNN needs to focus on
content,a new brand of storytelling and
stories you will not see anywhere else and
for goodness sakes stop trying to make
boring people hip with technology.Like
it will distract you from how bad the
talent is at bringing you the news. Kyra
should never have been moved for the
1 pm hour.CNN needs a tech show instead
of a financial show. Just look at the ratings
for CNBC they are way down. People could
care less about financial advice on tv.
Someone was pretty arrogant in thinking
we are CNN we can put annoying anchors
on the air and people will watch. Quit
dissing your viewers.I for the life of me
can't understand why Jeff Zucker and Jon
Klein the president of CNN news still have
jobs.It is baffling. People have been fussing
'for months about 360 spending too much
time on politics and mindless chatter.
The most original story so far this month
came from Amber Lyon and she is an
independent Journalist.CNN is failing
because it is absolutely not worth watching.
Anon 8:52, you might be on to something
start moving some of the weekend people
into the mix.I don't think it can get any
worse. Perhaps it is time to try Tj Holmes
in the prime time lineup but please make
it an original show.
Looks as though having Bill Maher and Judge Judy helped, Larry King in the demos. Maher was a good lead in for Cooper, but the Judge didn't help Cooper's sub Wolf, according to TVNewser. Very low totals and demos.
I hope CNN gets creamed by FNC when it
comes to the breaking news out of Texas.
Both Rick and Ali seemed to imply that it
was okay because the guy was angry at
the government. It is not excuse to crash
a plane into a building. For those 2 clowns
to even talk about that when people are
clearly frightened is irresponsible to say
the least.I just don;t understand why CNN
insists on focusing on hate and anger.
If CNN does a tech show it better be Pete
Cashmore as a host. Also, go open source
like Digg.CNN is already on FaceBook, so why
not just use FB to set it up for people to
contribute news stories they come across.
But it only makes it to air if it can be verified.
Let your viewers play a role in helping select
the news. If there is a possibility that CNN
has a reporter somewhere in the world who
covered the topic just line it up with what
the viewer sent you and highlight the
viewer who tells people about the story.
FB is becoming a news source for millions
now days.I say legit news items not the
polarizing blog news. One big story that
I did not see on CNN today : a school used
laptops to spy on students and their
families. That is huge and needs national
coverage and guess what is is on Digg.
Yesterday was a clear example of CNN's management's stupidity.
Anderson Cooper was MIA for 360. After 3 hours nonstop in the SIT Room, they used Wolf Blitzer AGAIN, for another hour on 360.
Wasn't a weekend anchor available??
Couldn't they use Don Lemon or TJ or someone INTERESTING???
CNN: Please make use of the WEEKEND TALENT....or you will ultimately FAIL.
WOLF'S ratings were so low you needed a broom to wipe them up and it wasn't his fault.
Tony Harris and Josh Levs did an amazing
job with the Austin story. They were really
responsible and struck the right tone.I
can't say the same for Ali Velshi and Rick
Sanchez , they were bout over the top and
I turned the channel to MSNBC.CNN needs
an anchor of stature on for these events.
It would have been nice to see John Roberts
or Don Lemon handle this story. You just
don't tout that ;you have a suicide manifesto
and wave the papers on the air.
Fox News has very limited demographics. Nearly all their viewers are "far right" people. Most of the other segment of our population have diff. choices for their news which is split between the other networks for ratings and also don't forget Jon Stewart. Many young people actually get their news from his show. And then their is the Internet where many progressives choose that as their news source. So Fox News shouldn't get all "high and mighty" about thier ratings when it is mostly "trailor trash" that watch that network. Most advertisers like broader demographics and from a political stand point you reach a more diverse population. That is why many consider demographics more important than actual people watching.
Jon B you are so right that is why CNN should
hire the man people consider to be closest to
Jon Stewart. His name is Conor Knighton, He is
a Yale graduate and really sharp and smart.
Even with breaking news CNN looks bad.
CNN simply forgot it's brand which is news.
I hope Tj and Don go to other networks for
them to be passed over for Ali Velshi is
just downright inexcusable.
@John B. While I'd like to think that most people who watch Fox are "trailer trash," as you so accurately put it, this is not the case.
I live in an upscale neighborhood outside of NYC, where taxes are really high and so is the income. I watch CNN on a consistant basis, but my neighbors, who are just as educated and have earnings that are just as high or higher than mine, watch FOX NEWS....and I know a whole red state called Arizona with beautiful homes, high incomes and very educated articulate people who watch FOX NEWS. So you should have ended your post with JMO....because in the end, that's ALL it is. Sorry
TVNewser is reporting that Gary Tuchman will return to Haiti and be reporting on 360....or until Anderson Cooper decides his times is up and he wants to go again.
@7:43PM I couldn't agree with you more. I really really enjoy the weekend anchors on CNN. I find myself looking forward to watching them. The minute I see Ali or Rick's face week days, I turn the dial and I hope others are doing the same.
Klein doesn't recognize talent until it actually hits him in the face and I hope Don and TJ don't go to other networks. Their time will come.
CNN needs to do something to separate
itself from FNC & MSNBC. Until CNN gets
a new look more like HLN with graphics
and picks of the pace in the segments
their ratings will continue to drop.I saw
John King was subbing on 360 last night
I guess that means he show will be coming
soon.It will be interesting to see how he
does with a new show for the hour.
Sadly, I think a lot of 360 viewers have
gone to Rachel Maddow. It reminds me
of how smart 360 once was. Maybe
Knighton could replace Larry King after
he retires. A show like Infomana, with
Conor's take on things in the media
each day could be something fresh
I think we will get a more accurate reading
of where CNN is headed in March due to
the Olympics.I think Jim Walton will
definitely have to shake things up.
Someone must have heard my plea...TVNewser is reporting that Gerri Willis is leaving CNN. Oh too bad. She's just was soooo knowledgeable about what..finance?
Now if only she'd take Ali Velchi with her who also knows a whole lot about the obvious.
Something is wrong with so many people
jumping ship from CNN. That tells me it
is not a good work environment .
@9:12PM It is a good work environment for the "favored few."
Unfortunately, there are too few to be favored.
Look for CNN to have another bad week the
broken government junk. Like the media is
not responsible for covering the spin that
leads to the divisiveness by employing the
party partisans and giving the channel over
to the parties that cause the mess and make
people not trust the news in the first place.
If the outlets play their cards right, especially CNN, and focus on Mr. Toyoda and carry his testimony in Congress, this could be one of their best weeks. They must pre-empt all programming in order to do this, but it is especially relevant news to the millions who own Toyotas.
Will someone please tell me what happened to John King's Show? Is he or isn't he assigned to the 7PM hour?
Candy Crowley showed a clip of Jon Stewart nailing the GOP on Sunday. When the real anchors start quoting the fake anchor, the fake anchor knows more than the real one.
According to the NYT, MSNBC did a much more thorouh job of covering the congressional hearings surrounding Toyota than both Fox and CNN. Shame on CNN for not showing all of the coverage when millions of lives are at stack.
La Hood was grilled extensively, and none of that was shown, at least not during the day.
It seems that broken government week is
a bust right out of the block. The ratings
on TV by the Numbers show nobody cared
all day long.CNN just continues to run away
viewers with boring negative talk and not
any news of value.
