Campbell Brown Leaving CNN?

Mediaite's Steve Krakauer is reporting that CNN has given Campbell Brown permission to be let out of her contract early. Reportedly Brown will remain as primetime anchor of her show until a replacement is named.
Krakauer went on to say "A source with knowledge of the situation tells Mediaite Brown made the request months ago -- and before all the 'how to fix CNN' articles began rolling out. We hear she originally lobbied for the 7pmET opening, with the thinking the show would work better at an earlier hour (and without the Bill O'Reilly/Keith Olbermann competition). The plan was denied by CNN, she asked for her release."
A CNN spokesperson would not confirm the report and told TVNewser, "A lot has been written and said about CNN lately. We don't comment on speculation."

The NYTimes' Brian Stelter confirmed the news with an unnamed source.

Brown joined CNN in 2007 after 11 years at NBC News. At the time, Brown told TVNewser, "What I am doing carries risk, but I wanted the challenge."

CNN has to get it right this time.Go with a news
show aimed at women. Just rotate all of the
female talent at CNN of diverse ethnic backgrounds.
No more political shows.CNN give us a new show
that is not ideologically centered but no limits or
boundaries raw reporting.

Oh no! Campbell is leaving! How will we ever survive without her?
I do believe the sources because so many are now filling-in for her.
She's probably right. She would have done better at the 7pm hour if only because CNN needed a female voice after such a long stretch. So now the search is on. Who possibly can fill that 8PM hour? Lord only knows. It is a tough act with O'Reilly as competition, but let's face it. Brown was absent most of the time on pregnancy leaves anyway. Didn't she manage to have two kids since she was hired? I don't think she was in any position to call the shots even if the late Tim Russert hired her originally at NBC.
How about Soledad O'Brien? I think she has the creds and she's ethnic and certainly knows a lot more than what's her face?

It is official Campbell Brown now has released
a statement and she is honest. Now that this
is happening maybe CNN will air some of the
docs in her time slot during the summer.CNN
has time to come up with a program since the
summer months is when people watch less tv.
They really don't need a new show until Sept.
Until they come up with a replacement how
about going anchor free and airing a show
like their Youtube channel with tabs of the
tittle of the story and let it run with reports
from CNN on various topics.I mean the
exact same look with the media bar at
the bottom. Have the reporters do quick
intros and at the end have a picture of all
of the people behind the particular news
item you see.It can end with the viral
pics of Josh Levs at the end but lets hear
some of the virals. A while back CNN was
experimenting with a blue media bar at
the bottom of the screen that would be
perfect and you can let stories run in
depth. Absolutely no talking heads but
the reporters and others at CNN.It is
something that can be down rather quickly
since CNN already does this on Youtube
Just bring it to tv.I am a fan of the In
Focus series on CNN. So please use
material from the fine photojournalists
and others at CNN.If there is breaking
news you have Jon King and Anderson
Cooper. They would never be short on
material and could use stories from
CNN.CNn International, CNN.com and
CNN affiliates. Also come up with a
segment that looks like the CNN app
along with apps for Time and SI.

Maybe Kiran Chetry will get Campbell's slot. Chetry is so smart and very articulate. Plus, she doesn't look too happy on her morning gig anymore.

It is interesting what Jon Klein says . In a
statement he said CNN would announce
programming plans. I am wondering if
Don Lemon or TJ Holmes will get a shot
at the time slot. I do believe that you do
need female anchors. It was amazing to
see Lenny Kravitz called Don a gentlemen
this weekend and said the watched him
all of the time for that reason. Just come
up with a show that would highlight their
strong points. This time let's hope that
CNN will come up with a unique show
unlike what is already out there.I have
a feeling CNN Tonight will be making
a comeback.

CNN management deserves some of the blame
here because they do not know when enough
is enough. Tonight's coverage of the primaries
is overkill form Campbell to 360 we are seeing
these panels. They keep talking about Kentucky.
It is a primary and that mean only Republicans
or Democrats and vote and that means the
Tea Party are conservative Republican activist
and this is a surprise to CNN that the could
get a win in a primary when voter turnout is
low. Spud says it best on ICN only 10 % of
the country is voting the media needs to
get a grip and this why CNN is in trouble.
Only one race matters and it went to the
Democrat in PA. Everything else we will
find out in November. If I buy into the
dumb logic on CNN voters would have
turned out in huge numbers because they
are angry but it seems voter turn out was
low even in Kentucky, There is news that
Spector is out after 30 years. I've gotta
say FNC & MSNBC got this right you
don't focus on primaries all night long.
Look for another nigh of low ratings for
CNN although Larry King was good.

Although Campbell's statement was humbling, and in part true, she did try her best it seems to do some behind the scenes manuvering to get John King's position.
While she really didn't deserve this consideration, John had proven to be an asset and she a liability. You can't ask for too much after you've only been there less three years with two maternity leaves. She herself never sought to develop a following.
Her statement that "Not enough people wanted to watch her program," is true of the entire line-up on CNN.
According to TVN's latest statistics, Grace pulled in 700,000
viewers on a night that AC, got a mere 500,000. Grace's show on HLN has had some promotion, but compared to 360, which in fact has been over promoted, Grace may well be the next contender for the 8PM slot. I think she could hold her own because she made it a point to develop a following and has an original style.
I agree, this slot MUST go to a woman or women. There are too many male anchors doing too little except for Wolf.

You are right. Kiran Chetry does not look happy in her morning position. She's a talent that is under utilized.
In the morning slot she seems tired.
In a later time slot she has the ability and the looks, to light up the screen, but she has no following either.

CNN hire Conor Knighton and have hiim
to a news show like Infomania. Right now
it is just a weekly show about the media.
Also, hire the Vanguard journalists from
Current as well. CNN could go with 3
women anchors at 9 instead of 8 but not
a View type show.CNN has to be bold and
fearless.AM ratings are not good enough
for Kiran Chetry to move to prime time.
Besides there is no difference between
she and Campbell.CNN needs a game
changer and Conor Knighton is a younger
version of Jon Stewart.I say go with the
women at 9 because I think Larry King
will announce his retirement sometime
this year. Now that Brown has released
a statement does that mean this could
be her last week at CNN.

No Nancy Grace, Rick Sanchez, Ali Velshi
Kiran Chetry,Roland Martin or any other
pundit on CNN at 8.CNN needs someone
who can give them credibility at 8.CNN
needs to hit the streets and bring us
what is really happening in the world.
Everything is to studio bound on CNN.
Where is the actual reporting on CNN ?
I am wondering if something is in the
works with John Roberts & Kyra Phillips.

@9:26AM I'd say something IS in "the works." They're engaged to be married. Period.
