Cal Perry, who has been at CNN since 2006, has announced that he is leaving the network. During his past five years at the network as an international correspondent, he has reported all over the world. Many of his reports centered around the Middle East, seeing as how he was based out of CNN’s Beirut bureau.

In 2006, Perry directed, filmed, produced, and created the CNN documentary “Combat Hospital.” He was also on the team that received the RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award for CNN’s Middle Eastern coverage.
His internal memo to colleagues is after the jump.

INTERNAL NOTE FROM CAL PERRY:

After careful consideration and much thought, I have decided it is time for me to leave CNN. In the roughly 6 years I have been with CNN International, I have had the privilege to work along side some of the most brave, intelligent, and professional people I could ever hope to meet.

Throughout the stories, places, and events I witnessed, I always knew I was extremely fortunate to experience these first hand, to experience events that changed peoples, countries, regions and hopefully further our connection to and understanding of them.

I will miss many things about CNN–but more than anything, I will miss the extraordinary people who work everyday in a selfless manner, deeply committed to providing a window to some of the most difficult, dangerous and complicated parts of our world.

I am very grateful to CNN for the experience and knowledge I have gotten and for the outstanding colleagues that I have met here.

My best wishes,
Cal Perry
