Doe this means that CNN is no longer live
in prime time on weekends? That means
that Geraldo is the only live show. Not sure
if that is a smart move.CNN needs to offer
all of it's programs from CNN,HLN & CNN I
available on their website in full episodes.
It is essential. On the move you don't have
time to download a podcast. However, if
we can instantly go to CNN.com and watch
shows that is much easier.CNN has got to
give people easier access. Not to mention
what this will do for CNN.com traffic. The
numbers are exploding for online viewing.
CNN needs to transfer from an analog
mentality to a digital mindset. Think about
a Hulu news model.

CNN needs to do something about the promos
for their shows. The ones for 360 & the Sit Room
are getting better, but for the most part they
don't offer any reason to watch the show. The
promos for Parker Spitzer are too self obsessed.
The promos are so busy trying to sell their
personalities, that is just useless. Why does it matter
what their occupations are. It has nothing to do
with me and gives me on reason to watch. Same
thing with the one that goes listen up. I don't
think either of them are influential, considering
they are not major players on anything.

On Thursday Anderson Cooper got the
beginning of 360 right. It reminded me
of the journalist that so many of us have
come to love. . It reminded me of the nth
degree. Rachel Maddow did the same as
well, but I give the edge to Anderson.
Just last night Fareed Zakaria was on Real
Time and near the end of the show they had
a discussion about just how items on the
web make it to legit news orgs. I see a
connection between the 2. The job for
Anderson and all of the CNN reporters is
to present facts and not the words that
is out there being treated as a legit news
story.I would rather have seen a couple
journalism professors who have to
battle this issue everyday with students.
Or maybe some legit digital news org
who battle this sort of thing each day.
Heck even talk with some students.
Personally, I think we are at the point
where the pundits are useless and they
demonstrates just how lazy CNN can
be way too often these days. The state
of the journalism on CNN is pathetic.

I agree about CNN promos. They have a new
political ad saying straight no spin. How is
that possible with so many pundits as Colbert
pointed out the other night. You can't get
away with not telling the truth. If you talk the
talk you have to walk the walk.

Fareed Zakaria did very well on Real Time this Friday. He let his lighter side be shown. Too often on CNN he appears stuffy and stiff, almost afraid to crack a smile.
CNN should encourage him to "break lose a little more," to show his keen sense of humor and wit.
Here we go again...they are promoting only those people "they deem worthy" and "those same people" aren't going to bring in the numbers they need.
How come MSNBC and FOX has a variety of people/anchors they can depend on? Because they've nurtured a VARIETY of talent.
CNN Never Learns.

The big question in cable for now at least is: Will Keith Olbermann return to MSNBC?
Well, if he doesn't guess who just might try and snatch him up real quick....CNN. They let him get away once, they wouldn't let it happen again I'm sure.

Anonymous said...

Keith is returning to MSNBC and a lot sooner
than you think. From petitions to colleague
support NBC is feeling the pressure. Ratings
for Countdown will soar because people are
being urged to support the show. Once Larry
King retires TRMS gets his viewers and you
have things moving in favor of MSNBC and
away from CNN come January 2011. Around
Thanksgiving time the 2010 tv season comes
to an end and looking forward to CNN in 2011
the landscape is not pretty . If you think the
ratings are bad now, you aint seen nothing yet.

CNN should become the only channel for
world news. Wether we like it or not it is
all global. News organizations would kill
to have the resources of CNN International.
Why can't we get at least 2 hrs of world news
7 days a week.CNN needs to realize they have
to offer viewers something they could only get
from CNN. If CNN were to do 2 hrs of world
news 7 days a week, I would set the dvr. As
long as they are showing talk on a visual
medium ,I won't set the dvr. Why waste up
space when I could record something I like.

CNN has no journalistic soul.CNN is os afraid
of the right. They keep hiring more and more
pundits and annoying show hosts. Parker
Spitzer is what is wrong with the show. Both
come across as arrogant.CNN is completely
hypocritical. They get so many of their news
stories from political blogs and talk radio.
The viewers don't matter and that is not good
business. Don't forget about your customers.
The MSNBC controversy shows just how
irrelevant CNN has become. People are
signing online petitions and taking action.
CNN makes announcements about Piers
Morgan and you can hear the crickets in
the room.It just makes you remember why
you are not watching CNN.

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately for CNN, it is the 21st century
and they are still relying on pundits and opinion.
You can't keep forgetting that you are CNN.If
the bosses don't understand that it is all about
accessible information and content by now they
never will get it. What if you could have a ton
of content and information that is completely
accessible via your television. You don't have
to buy any new items, just use the remote.CNN
needs to burn the bridge to the 20th century so
that there is no turning back.CNN must start
thinking ahead.

Keith Olberman will be back on Tuesday from his rather short suspension and it is true that MSNBC viewers took action and their voices were heard. They indeed signed petitions and wrote on twitter and got Michael Moore involved and yes, this does show two things, MSNBC cares about their viewers, and Keith Olbermann is more than a personality, which sets him apart from anyone on CNN.
No one is bothering to write and petition CNN about Piers Morgan, because no one really cares.
Yes, there are complaints heard about Eliot & Kathryn, but no one really cares enough about them either. Which just goes to show that MSNBC has risen so far above CNN that they could go pitch black tomorrow, and only the Anderfans might complain about the darkness.

Anonymous said...

Let's be realistic. CNN is not going out of
business. There are those of us who care
about CNN, that is why the programming
they are going with upsets us. We know
CNN could and needs to do better.MSNBC
is blowing past CNN in prime time because
their lineup has continuity. CNN needs to
understand Keith & Rachel do use facts and
they are not having people come on just to
talk and say nothing. It is going somewhere
on both shows and it is an intelligent
conversation and solid interviews. Parker
Spitzer is out of their league. The show
is flat and boring.

TV Newser has a great post on foreign news
and the lack of it on American news. Networks
used to claim it was costly but as the interview
on TV Newser points out technology is helping
keep down costs.Mac's have some of the best
editing software and PC's have Edius and Adobe.
It is so simple to FTP stories and video. I know
people who do it every day.If PBS can cover the
world why can't CNN. Time Warner also owns
CNN I. There is no excuse for the lack of foreign
news coverage on CNN, who advertises they
are the worldwide news leader. Tell me when
this happens on CNN because I never see it.
Try foreign news instead of technology to
attract younger viewers.

MSNBC is "blowing past CNN," because it is not in the process of "searching for talent." It already has established talent..with Olberman, Maddow, and now McDonnell, who has beaten AC360
almost every nite since it began a short time ago.
YOU may care about CNN, but CNN doesn't care about YOU. There's the difference.
They are not polling their viewers, they are not looking at blogs like this one, they could care less about what viewers actually think.
It has become an insult to even think about watching or giving CNN advice about what we wish to see, because management isn't listening.

CNN may be hyping Conan O'Brien, but as Kyra Phillips pointed out, he's on "the sister network."
I never cared for his humor on NBC, and I don't care for his humor on TBS, and CNN probably got Conan his spot...just speculating.
He's got tough competition as Brooke Baldwin so aptly alluded to, "Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert," and I'm sticking with them....as so many others probably will as well.

Anonymous said...

360 is not exactly newsworthy these days.
At this point I am wondering how low do
the ratings have to go before they wake up?
Just look at the guests on 360 and the Last
Word. While 360 is spending 15 minutes on
one topic that should be 10 minutes at the
most Lawrence O'Donnell is on topic # 3 or
4. The pace of 360 used to be faster and at
least had news. Looks like CNN has to ruin
360, which is the only thing CNN has going
for it right now.In protest, I am not going
to dvr 360 until they change the show.
I'll go with Countdown & TRMS instead.
Neither show focuses on crime.

CNN might want to consider reruns of Conan
instead of Larry King on weekends. Conan
blew Stewart and Colbert out of the water
and topped Leno and Letterman. The average
age of his show is 30. Conan topped all in
all demos. Another cash cow for Time Warner.
I really don't understand how CNN is so poorly
tun.HBO, TNT , TBS, Cartoon, etc are all solid
performers.CNN has the talent it needs. They
just make bad choices about the people they
give shows on the network.

Anonymous said...

@1:53PM: So ya think Conan going to KEEP ON KEEPING ON??
I doubt it, in fact, I double doubt it.
Jon is a legend. Conan is a legend in his own mind.

Anonymous said...

I think Jon Stewart and Colbert now have
competition. It will swing back and forth
between Conan/Leno/Letterman. Besides
both Letterman & Leno are struggling with
Nightline. Conan has more younger viewers
than the others. It is going to be all over the
place with ratings for Conan. Letterman &
Leno.TBS realizes that the younger viewers
will watch online as well. Full episodes are
now available for Team CoCo.

No surprise. 360 was 4th in the demo at
10. Even Brian Williams highlights a couple
of viral videos near the end of Nightly News.
Ideological idiocy is destroying CNN.360
needs to have a wide range of stories and
knock it off with mindless chatter.CNN is
choosing to ignore facts in favor of opinion.
Judging by the numbers it is not working.
