360 has returned to its old format and unfortuately this is reflected in the ratings for April.
If it isn't Breaking News, viewers have other interests.
John King anchored on Friday and did respectively well according to TVN. I suspect AC will be absent this week for Easter break.
Soledad took over tonite and reported on an embarassing racist email that referred to the POTUS as a "chimp." She did not take this lightly, being of Afro-American decent herself.
But she did perform her duties with directness and candor, as she usually does.
Hopefully John King and Soledad will alternately, sit in for AC for the rest of the week.

If John King is canceled before In The Arena,
CNN would be making a big mistake. What is
taking management so long to see the problem ?
I have seen some very interesting ideas here.
Maybe CNN could start experimenting with shows
at 8 PM next month. They are waiting too late to
fix their prime time problems. CNN has to get
back to being a serious news channel. The
content & story-telling is lacking. The ratings
are down because people what real news and
real information. Until someone is bold enough
to say not pundits and real news cable news
ratings will continue to fall. It is useless info.
Why do the so-called cable news channels
bring people to misinform viewers ? Viewers
need facts not a circus. Not one show averaged
more than 200,000 in the demo. That is a
problem that must be fixed now not later.

Turned off CNN for the next couple of weeks.
I have had enough of Donald Trump and the
royal wedding.

CNN can't get away with their first 2 prime
time offerings not being news shows. It was
clear that the news is the star for CNN and
you would think they would go strong with
the news the reporters cover each day.CNN
should be able to assemble some interesting
news stories each day at 8. Suzanne Malveaux
finds 3 interesting stories for You Choose The
News and you only get to see 1. Just as there
are signs of trouble for FOX, CNN is too weak
to challenge FOX. MSNBC is getting stronger and
CNN and HLN are falling way behind. It is no
doubt that before the year's end CNN will
have to make changes. This means that in
less than a year the CNN prime time lineup
is a flop and viewers don't like what CNN
is offering. Don't wait too long.

Anonymous said...

I find it odd that you think choosing one subject to report on, as Suzanne Malveaux currently does, is a good thing.
Jon Stewart took CNN to task for doing this, asking since when does the viewer get to choose the news?
Isn't that their job??

Instead of worrying about John King and Eliot Spitzer, CNN ought to worry about Piers Moron.
It is obvious that his lead in to 360 is not doing well unless he continues with the breaking news of the day, if there is breaking news.
He fills his shows with celebrities no one wants to spend an hour with, let alone an entire hour with him.
All the promotion that has gone into his show, and for what? He really is doing no better than Larry and he doesn't relate to an American audience.
I always made it a point to see who LK was going to have on and now, I just skip the 9PM hour altogether, as though it doesn't even exist...and obviously others do the same according to TVN.

TSR needs the 2 internet reporters back on
the show. Can the show be anymore boring.
Also, CNN needs to work on it's look. Give us
full screen video and stop it with the anchors
face alongside video. Get rid of the annoying
drop box that comes in at an angle and make
it slide in left or right and lose all of the junk
at the bottom whenever you have graphics or
video . Just go with the banner for 7 seconds
like the networks. CNN does so many things
that make me annoyed. Stop forgetting about
the viewer. We all know we see history repeating.
CNN will wait too late to fix it;s prime tine
woes. Besides CNN is now run by Ken Jautz,
the man destroyed HLN and now it continues
with CNN. If In The Arena is the best he can
cone up with, CNN is toast. Elliot Spitzer &
Piers Morgan should never have been
greenlighted in the first place who wants
to watch either of them. Certainly not tv
watchers. I see the low ratings are back
for American Morning. CNN is the one network
the makes viewers turn the channel and is
way too annoying with dumb questions &
useless segments.

The smartest thing for CNN to do right now
would be a women's news show in place of
the Spitzer program. Have all of the female
reporters from all of the CNN networks and
music and interesting topics. It should be a
diverse ethnic group of female journalists.
I say go with maybe 4 but no talking over
each other. More in line with The Talk on
CBS. The music could be used for the
opening. during breaks( in and out ) and
the goodbye song. The musical possibilities
are endless and advertisers would line up.
I say this because there is a report that
some advertisers are so mad with ABC
canceling soap operas that they are
pulling their ads to protest. Cable news
needs a news show for women. No
politics more news and interesting topics.
It is time for this to happen. Rotate the
hosts each week.

HLN needs to get back to it's former self
with a twist. HLN develop the look of the
website for CNN, media bar and all. The
original Current would be a great model.
I miss the original Current with the pods
that would give you the full story . HLN
is worst than CNN right now. No crawls
and the top searches on Google, Twitter
and FB. HLN is in dire need of a makeover.

Not a fan of Choose The News. That is the
point. Why can't we see all 3 stories ? Just
used as example of how CNN has no idea
what to do with all of their news items. Give
us more stories and less talk. That is the
point of television. It is nothing without the
video. Television is a visual medium.

Anonymous said...

Personally, I really miss the old HLN. At any
time you could get some news , weather
and sports. Sometimes I could use a quick
news fix. Why the changes to crime and
opinion ? What is up with that ? Richard
Lui & Thomas Roberts are now on MSNBB.
Chuck Roberts is gone and Erica Hill is now
at CBS. I can't watch HLN without getting
sick to me stomach. I am a fan of The Talk.
Watching it right now. Love them all. Don't
like the View and that is probably why Joy's
show is not doing that well.

According to TVN's latest results, Piers Moron has hit a new low, with 77,000 viewers total last nite.
While it is true that this is vacation week for ALL of the CNN anchors, what with Passover and Easter combined, Fox and MSNBC, seem NOT to be effected.
Next week when the Royal Wedding is on tap, as the big event of the Spring, it will again become Breaking News for CNN and they will regain their numbers, as well as their anchors.
But the questions remains: Why does CNN sink so low during a slow news run?? It's almost like a person who is manic depressive. The Highs are really high and the Lows go so low, it is almost suicidal.

Anonymous said...

Ouch. Now that has gotta hurt. CNN is
falling apart. Yes people are on vacation
but that has to be about the programming.
The numbers will be ugly for CNN for this
month and really soon the audience will
shrink for all of the cable channels as
it gets warmer outside.CNN really messed
things up by abandoning the news. Sadly,
it is all self inflicted. You can't take CNN
seriously these days. They are too busy
with gimmicks and lack substance unless
there is a breaking news story and I am
not sure a royal wedding meets that
criteria. If you have tried to watch American
Morning with that trio, you know why is
is a failure. CNN has to act sooner and
not later. The network is turning off the
viewers with its lousy programming.

Anonymous said...

CNN does nothing right. From gimmicks,
talking heads. no reporting or facts, loaded
questions with no value at all who wants to
watch that crap. Viewers are sending CNN
a message. Somebody better hear them now.
There is very little news these days on CNN.
The don't even look like a national/ global
news organization. CNN is missing too many
stories on a daily basis in favor of talk. At
some point CNN will understand. It is the
mindless chatter that is bringing them down.
Nobody watches cable news for pundits or
questions. Good grief. Both Morgan and
Spitzer need to be canceled. They are 2
more reasons to avoid CNN in prime time.
CNN just gets everything wrong. It is not
a pretty picture morning. day or night.

Anonymous said...

Until CNN stops booking pundits things will not
change for them. Get away from the talking
points and at least do something different.
IMHO that is why Morning Joe is topping AM.
Joe does not let people get away with talking
points or rhetoric. If someone tries to lie to
viewers, someone on the show will call them
out. I don't agree with Joe politically but I
applaud that he does not want to be just like
all of the other cable news shows. You get
a nice mixture of all types of news on MJ.
CNN is losing right from the start. Is CNN
having trouble booking guests ? CNN get
away from the ideology driving the news.

Anonymous said...

Nothing is wrong with CNN International. The
problem is CNN domestic. Ken Jautz running
CNN never made any sense to me. Didn't this
guy hire Glen Beck, who is too crazy for FNC,
and created Headline Nonsense. CNN needs
new leadership who will change the old ways
of thinking. CNN looks outdated and could use
a serious upgrade. Will they be bold enough to
hire people in their 40's, 30's and 20's who
will have fresh ideas and can create new and
innovative shows for CNN like HBO. Of course
not. They have their heads buried in the sand.
It is true everything is broken for CNN domestic.

Anonymous said...

CNN hire George Stroumboulopoulos.
The name alone is an attention getter.

Anonymous said...

Donald Trump is the latest example of how to
get on CNN. Just bash President Obama and
you can hijack the news on CNN. Does not
matter that it is a false accusation. That is
exactly why American news outlets are losing
in popularity. They completely ignore dozens
of legit news items in favor of nothing.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps with this being spring break in many
cities the numbers are down for CNN. On the
other hand it might be ominous signs about
future ratings for CNN. TVN has the ratings
and they are a little low. Yes the numbers go
down around this time of year but I think CNN
has to drop Elliot Spitzer & Piers Morgan.

Anonymous said...

I may be wrong, but I was quite certain the Jon Klein hired Glen Beck, not Ken Jautz.
Doesn't matter. They both have the same mentality.
However, as far as Eliot Spitzer's show goes, I have to defend him. He does a lot of preparation for his show.
Besides being the former Governor of NY, he actually reads depositions before arguing legal matters with Jeff Toobin.
Tonite, for example he had a stack of papers about "The Donald" and his legal hassels over the years before making his case against Trump's latest allegations against Obama on the birther issue.
Eliot Spitzer has a legal, legislative, and financial background that can't be ignored and he is using this show to get his reputation back and political exposure. This is a good thing for NY State.
His name doesn't belong in the same sentence with Pierce Moron.
When he leaves CNN, and he will, it should be on HIS terms when a better opportunity presents itself.

I hope CNN does go with Aisha Tyler. Don't
know if that rumor is true but she is smart
and funny going back to the days at Dartmouth.
Right now she is doing the animated series
Archer so she would be able to have a prime
time show.CNN needs a smart , intelligent
female in the lineup. The problem for Elliot
Spitzer and Piers Morgan is ratings. You can't
leave those shows on too much longer.

Anonymous said...

The problem with CNN is they have hosts
who do way too much grandstanding. I
find it fake and not real and cable news
has no realness. It is all staged, made up
issues and fake.CNN turns you off and
tunes you out. They are failing to do their
jobs which is the news not opinion. You
can watch all day long and get nothing.
There is no way in the world Donald
Trump should be a news story every hour
on CNN. Is that all that happened today ?
Heck no. Zero news significance with
Donald Trump. CNN is broken and no
one at the network seems capable of
fixing it's problems.

Anonymous said...

I say Aisha Tyler would be a good get for
CNN. I really liked Talk Soup when she was
the host. In fact she was on Infomania last
night. Add George Strombo live and CNN
would stand out. In this day and time a
hour long interview show does not work.
It has to be the Daily Show, Conan, Leno,
Letterman, Conan and Kimmel. Strombo
could be CNN's Colbert., who is from Canada.

I too think that CNN should do more tech
news. Technology is so much a part of our
lives right now. Each day there should be
news in the tech and social media world.
For goodness sake who says send me
an e-mail these days.As well as the arts
and culture who does not share music
these days.

Anonymous said...

CNN needs to a add more stories that show
people out doing things to change the world
and are the American innovators. CNN is too
focused on the negative and tries to exploit
things to make it seem like a one size fits
all for a nation of 300 million people. CNN
can't know how I feel or think about things.
So why are they so arrogant to think they do.
CNN is the problem that is leading to silliness
and not seriousness in the news. Jon Stewart
is a success because he puts the national
news media to shame for the antics they
try to sell us as news.CNN is factless. It
was Ken Jautz who hired Glen Beck. Not
too long ago CNN decided to have different
bosses at HLN and CNN.

Anonymous said...

CNN and cable news has not evolved. Yes CNN
should develop a digital media look and give
us more video and news without people's faces
plastered over the video. Could they do like
EuroNews and just show the stories with no
anchor or the names of the reporters but just
news in different subjects with just graphics
and music to let you know the subject matter
is changing. With the talking heads CNN looks
like a dinosaur. Nobody watches the news for
the pundits.

Anonymous said...

That is true about CNN. There are sectors that
are hiring. The tech sector is going on a hiring
spree. Yes there are people struggling and I
find out they are hopeful because being angry
doesn't change your situation. It depends upon
who you talk to and your own personal situation.
It is not as simple as lumping all Americans into
one category. I was also wondering the same
thing about the bookings on CNN. Why is it
only people on their payroll ? Cable news makes
no sense and is not relative to people's lives.
I never thought I would be a fan of the big 3
newscasts but I find them really doing news.
So a dvr a different show each day.CNN is
missing too many stories.

April 2011 is going to bad for CNN. This
week's ratings have to be concerning. TV
by the Numbers have the ratings for
Thursday. CNN is losing viewers starting
with AM and guess who was on the show
yesterday : Donald Trump. I think this is
going to be a pivotal month in cable news.
Beck is already losing in viewers and other
FNC shows are down. That makes MSNBC the
winner. At this point I don't even think the
royal wedding will bring viewers to CNN.
They will watch other channels.IMHO CNN
is losing those college educated viewers to
MSNBC.

Anonymous said...

@6:53PM: I totally relate to what you are saying.
I find myself watching Brian Williams and he covers more news in a half an hour than CNN does all day, and that includes all of the prime shows and I mean ALL of them.
No wonder Jon Stewart and he are such good friends and admire one another.

Anonymous said...

I wish 360 would do the Raw Politics
segment like Who Knew on Yahoo. To be
honest I turn the channel when the talking
heads pop up. If you want us to watch or
DVR a show , give us something we look
forward to seeing.

Anonymous said...

You are right about CNN looking ancient.
You text or send videos. ABC News is going
all out with that. Current does it some but
not as much as they once did. CNN should
do that with I-Report. In this day and time
people would react more to video. It is called
collective journalism. You ask people to send
you a video on a particular subject and you
put them together in a report. I said that CNN
going with Eliot Spitzer & Piers Morgan was
like ESPN not doing sports.CNN made their
choices and went down this route. As if that
was not bad enough, they are not hiring
reporters but pundits. Increasingly, there is
resentment against cable news, who played
a major role in destroying journalism. Don't
get me wrong there is nothing wrong with
legit e-mails. It is the questions that miss
the mark. The questions reflect a political
agenda. Social media let's you be in the
driver's seat not CNN.

CNN can come across like the co-worker
we all avoid because they complain all of the
time, hate their miserable lives and are very
resentful when others are not like them and
will always ruin your day. Also, I don't like
the white, gray and red background. It is
not very appealing.
