CNN is falling apart and crumbling into pieces.
Friday's ratings are horrible. It appears that
viewers have soured on CNN.

According to Inside Cable News. CNN will only
have Ali on at 5 until a specific date in September.
I am guessing that CNN is working on a brand new
morning show with Erin Burnett. Or CNN is going
for a new round of shows for fall. Right now the
only safe shows are probably 360 & The Sit Room.
CNN can no longer be in denial. Viewers are
telling you something and you better listen. Just
because you are CNN does not mean you can
put crap on the air and make people watch.

Christine Romans was anchoring In The Arena
tonight. Wonder if that means Spitzer is out.
Will we get some different summer programming.
Personally, I think management is afraid of
Eliot Spitzer & Piers Morgan. CNN permitted them
to do breaking news and that was a mistake.
Now CNN is not tops with breaking news with
recent stories. Nobody had the guts to tell them
no you don't do breaking news. Nobody thought
about the reputation of the network.

I'm going with Countdown beating In The
Area in the ratings. The question is how
bad will it be for CNN.

Countdown is on Current TV which is not viewed by a whole lot of people because their cable provider either does not have it on the schedule, or viewers don't know where to find it.
Interesting that Christine Romans sat in for Spitzer and Joe Johns was in for John King, though Dana Bash was up and running, so to speak. Changes are in the air, as well they should be on CNN.
If Fridays ratings were any example of what is in store for the network, everyone better watch their step, even 360, and the SIT Room was in the doghouse ratings wise. All prime was in the doghouse, though 360 edged out a decent 600,000 total, demos were off.

There is a rule in television that a network's
highest rated shows survive.360 is safe. I
feel badly for all of those fine reporters at
CNN. They are victims of bad decisions. CNN
decided to go with pov ideology in the 21st
century. Couldn't they see viewers are sick
of this parading as journalism. CNN is ruined.
Others have been evolving and CNN is stuck
in the 90's. If you just bring on people to
offer their opinions, it is lazy pure and simple.
No interesting news or people are out there.
CNN is too arrogant to get the message.

Somebody at CNN needs to be on a plane to
Canada right now. Don't come back until you
have signed Strombo. George makes the news
hip, cool, smart, informative and fun. He has
some mad interview skills and seems to put
a lot of work into his show. Best thing he is
live and is a guy you would like to spend an
hour with and would tune in each night. CNN
could learn a lot about presentation, production,
conversational writing, booking big names that
are not just celebrities from him. Just move the
show form Toronto to NYC. People would line
up for tickets just like Leno and Letterman. The
TW building is setting up to have Anderson
live during the day. Just do the same thing
at night. Nightline is beating Leno and
Letterman in the ratings. Just think about
the ratings CNN could get at 9 with a live
news show with as studio audience. To me
his show is a live news show with a studio
audience. Put it on a 9 PM to get a jump on
the Daily Show and Colbert.

I get the feeling that there is much confusion at
CNN. They have to figure out how to get out of
the mess they are in and I see no leadership.

Yes, Jon Klein hired Eliot Spitzer and Piers Morgan
but his bosses signed off on the plan. Nobody
instructed their people to come up with a backup
plan. The only reason you would do that is if you
are convinced you have bona fide hits on you hand.

So even CNN management thought Eliot Spitzer
and Piers Morgan would find success. We all
have realized for quite some time this was not
true. I still don't see the moves CNN is making
to do something. You give Ali Velshi a 5 AM
show and put Christine Romans on In The
Arena. Why ?

Imagine this : you see animation for 5 seconds
at the top for TSR. You hear Jon Huntsman say
that he is running for President. You hear Wolf
say ladies & gentlemen we have another GOP
contender. Next natural sound of the day the
US launch military action in Afghanistan. Bush
makes the announcement. Wolf says that was
then ,now Afghanistan has become America's
longest war now the exit plan. President Obama
has a drawdown plan. I'm talking about a highly
produced opening that is a slick pre-edited
mini movie. Live in the studio Wolf says I am
Wolf Blitzer and you are in TSR , welcome to
the show roll the regular show open for TSR.
We get things started with Afghanistan.
Wolf goes full screen to a series of infographics
that timeline Afghanistan. Wolf comes back on
camera with a split screen one half showing
years.months. days and deaths. Wolf says
Chris Lawrence and you get his package about
what Obama will do. Get away form the long
drawn out boring intros. Just say the reporters
name and roll his story. The first thing you
see after Wolf pithes the package is Obama
making the original announcement. Chris
says something like now that time has come.
He uses very effective story-telling to fill
viewers in.At the end of the package he is
live with Wolf for the breakdown. Basically
3-5 things you should know. On to the next
story. Content,presentation and production
are all problems for CNN.CNN is really
outdated with journalism techniques.CNN is
way too bland and yes drop the pundits. Not
only do you do this with TSR. You do it all
day long. With 360 have Anderson use his
writing skills to converse with viewers about
the show tonight.

Me again with the sequel. For the hourly
political updates. Roll the animation have
Mark, Paul, whoever say right after the
animation. Hey I'm _______. Got some political
news for you. Story 1,etc with video and the
banners they have on the screen. Leave the
anchors out. You have no need for the intro
from the anchor the animation told me what
the segment is,same thing goes for the biz
headlines. Have them say that's your political
or biz news for now. See you later or next hour.
Anchor says thanks______. I don't care what
some pundit thinks about anything. What does
that have to do with me. Opinions are like
heads, we all have one. You know what my
response is every time CNN talks with pundits.
A big SO and turn the channel. At some point
CNN had better understand you look in the
camera and converse with viewers to engage
them not pundits. Pundits do not engage viewers,
they annoy us. If you really want to know
what is on my mind why not ask me and
let me tell you. Never assume your interests
are mine. Ask your viewers to respond to
what is on your show not a question of the
day. CNN has to wonder why viewers don't
hang around. It's simple, CNN treats me like
I am not in the room and it is all about them
and their pundits on the payroll. Not only
that they want to limit what you talk about.
If you ask viewers what is on their minds,
let them tell you the news they are interested.
What makes CNN think I talk politics all day
long. The only people who do this work for
CNN. so CNN ignores the millions of viewers
who don't have their jobs. They have to
wonder why viewers don't like them. Try
looking at the junk you put on the air.
It is worthless. Don't waste your time.

CNN please hire George Stroumboulopoulos.
We are really counting on you man.CNN you are
our only hope to make it possible to see Strombo
each day on tv. Please hire Stroumboulopoulos.
Dudes we promise to watch & DVR the show.

How many times can the viewers scream out their opinions just to be completely ignored?

After all we can do more than just scream, we can change the channel.

I really want to stay with CNN, but they are making it awfully difficult.

Will this Spitzer change be permanent? It wouldn't even matter if they rotated anchors until a plan is formulated, just don't bring Spitzer back, please.

I saw the replay of Countdown this morning.
IMHO the premiere was lame. I hope that CNN
really does solve it's ratings woes the right show
as a lead in to 360 could help it top Greta.CNN
does want to win. Right. In my viewing on the
CBC website, i don't see Tosh or Stewart I see
a fresh face that could help save CNN. Currently,
I don't see any show to compare it with on cable
news. Hip is a good description of the show. It
would most definitely improve the music on CNN
and it is a news show that could work on a news
channel like CNN.It would be hard for critics
to attack CNN for hiring him. Strombo does a
news/interview show. It is the perfect fit.

Breaking News : this just in, The Hollywood
Reporter has the ratings for Countdown. The
premiere episode of Countdown on Current TV
topped In The Arena in the demo. By a 2 :1
margin. Countdown had 179,000 and CNN had
89,000 for the hour. How embarrassing is that.
I have been laughing so hard along with FNC &
MSNBC. With CNN the laughs just keep coming.
Looks like viewers are getting the last laugh
when it comes to CNN.In The Arena has to go
now and Piers Morgan with it because Keith
was just 33,000 viewers behind him. Wow.
Countdown is just going to grow and that is
the nightmare scenario for CNN.

Anonymous said...

It depends upon what kind of breaking news Spitzer and Morgan are allowed to do.
The "breaking news," these past two weeks had to do with a sex scandal and Spitzer sure is a go to source for that.
Morgan, with his tabloidish brand, and mentality can also handle a sex scandal. Let's face it. You don't need to be a brain surgeon, like Sanjay Gupta, to handle a Weiner.
Wars no, but light things, any air head can handle and did. Think Paula Zahn.

Anonymous said...

Weiner did not bring big ratings to anyone.
Viewers just did not care about the story.
The problem is CNN . First, it is American
Morning, the yellow, orange & white is
ugly, CNN has plenty of ugly graphics.
Don't even get me started on the music
for AM. What are we in an elevator. Stupid
questions not once but from Jack Cafferty
and Carol Costello. Even Kyra is now forced
to have the talking heads on each day. The
ridiculous steam team. Maybe if CNN would
concentrate on news and not opinion and
better story selection things will change.
I don't feel sorry for CNN anymore. This is
their fault . They damaged themselves.
You don't go with 2 poseurs when you
need to fix a network. Let alone give them
prime time slots.

CNN needs to jazz things up. Imagine this :

REM's Orange Crush for an opening.
Still pics with words about the Afghan war
and how long it has been going on the day
when it began, fast motion with days, months
& years to today, soundtrack in the background
the Decembrists this is why we fight or Riding
with Feeling and Jim Cain from Bill Callahan.
CNN should have 15 second or 30 second
mini movies all day long about Afghanistan.
Songs for this is limitless, From Richard
Ashcroft's Check The Meaning or the jazz
legend Donald's Byrd's Where Are We Going.
CNN has to have a huge archive from the
beginning with the strikes to former Pres
Bush addressing the nation. To stories that
CNN has broadcast for some 10 years. CNN
knew this day was coming. Where are the
pre-produced pieces from CNN all day long.
CNN just seems to put so little effort into
the news these days. Every half hour there
should be a video montage,sound bites &
photos that are updated to keep viewers
coming back or sticking around for the news.
Featuring different music all day long.I
would much rather hear from people who
have actually been in Afghanistan, yes our
brave troops and vets. No pundits on this
CNN his is about families and lives and war.
CNN has to up it's game. It is all about
survival and relevance.

Current TV has CNN beat on graphics and video.
They know it is important. That has got to hurt.
Countdown takes down In The Arena. Current
is going to have special coverage of the Obama
speech tonight. It will be interesting to see if
it beats CNN. Apparently, CNN has made some
viewers very angry..

I am sure Rachel cleaned Piers' clock yesterday.
She was classic Rachel for the beginning of her
show while Piers had Latoya Jackson. Yeah, she
needs an hour on tv. 360 had a bad lead story
last night. I think AC will be 4th.CNN has
clearly lost it's way and it is like the blind
leading the blind.

Anonymous said...

This is really starting to look bad for CNN. The
network is at a breaking point and a complete
collapse could be around the corner. First, AM
is now getting less than 300,000 and is falling
way behind MJ.

CNN is now having troubles at 6,7, 8 & 9. That
means increasing hours of CNN falling behind
in the morning and dayside and prime time.At
some point 360 can't keep being competitive.

There is a real strong possibility that CNN
could be 5th by the fall. Everyone could see
this train wreck coming. At this point I don't
see CNN hitting the brakes in time. Know
why ? I don't think CNN will cancel Piers
Morgan Tonight or Eliot Spitzer by July.

CNN should never have conceded smart
conversation and intelligent talk in favor
or eye rolling screaming pundits who don't
let people talk. Who are permitted to lie
to viewers without being held accountable
by so-called reporters. Made up stories
and faux topics.CNN insulted their viewers
intelligence. That is not how you treat your
customers and is a way to go out of business.
Good riddance to CNN for trying to peddle
sleaze and tabloid trash into peoples home.
Not on my television you don't.

Bomber. We love 360, so we love CNN.
Please hire our favorite self-proclaimed
news junkie aka George Stroumboulopoulos.
Thank You CNN. The Hour at 9 PM and 360
at 10 PM.

Hey guys, I've been thinking. Let's say CNN does
hire the Strombo guy. To give viewers a chance to
get use to his face CNN should let him do the mile
a minute segment for like the last 10-15 mins of
the 2nd hr of 360 talking with Anderson & Isha.
CNN's botched the Piers Morgan rollout and got
the ad campaign all wrong. When viewers see with
their own eyes, that carries more weight. Have him
sit and talk with Anderson about the show he plans
to bring to CNN. This guy is good and has a million
dollar personality. Anderson & George sounds
good to me. They both strike me as smart
men with a sense of humor. Best of all you
like them. It seems like the Strombo set is
rather simple and can be put together quickly.
2 red chairs, a standing table, the green screen
and the virtual effect when Strombo interviews
via satellite or Skype.CNN could use a show
like Strombo right now. It is really sad to see
this for CNN. I know a lot of people are angry
but it is a shame for a once great network.
There is no live studio audience news show
out there. So it least it is a fresh idea.It is
not like the Strombo guy can't pull it off.
He has had the show in Canada for 7 years.

Piers Morgan must try harder and have better people to speak to than Latoya Jackson.
Since when was she ever worth a full hour? Not even when Michael was alive and her big yawn was felt over at 360 which barely got a 500 share from her appearance as a lead in.
Piers is now a gameshow host as well as a host on CNN. It is time for him to choose which one he wants to be or vacate his seat.
CNN cannot avoid to drag 360 down with this "Moron."

Anonymous said...

Piers Morgan is not the right lead in for 360.
Piers Morgan does not have a news background.
The only people he ever interviewed were in
Britain. So he can't be the biggest interviews.
The problem with him and CNN is that he is
not any good.Morgan is lousy.

Anonymous said...

Now isn't that funny. CNN is claiming Countdown
won because Eliot Spitzer is on vacation. He sure
was there on Friday and Christine Romans beat
his demos twice this week. CNN really is so funny.
Like Spitzer will top Countdown.

Anonymous said...

What is wrong with CNN. Jack Cafferty had
no business talking about Jon Huntsman's
daughter and now Lisa had to issue a
clarification. What does his daughter's
nationality have to do with anything. CNN
has some bigot issues they need to fix.

Anonymous said...

Why was it necessary for CNN to use Demi Moore as a supposed journalist in Nepal?
What are her credentials?
Someone who will read this will say "Oh she donates so much to the cause." So I should care more or less because this dimwit narrates the piece?
That doesn not qualify her to be a journalist for CNN.
What about Soledad O'Brien, you know a REAL journalist??? We've heard very little from her lately.
The minute I saw it was Moore I switched the channel.
If Holywood doesn't want her, and I mean Holy, than why use her CNN??
Oh, forgive me she's married to Ashton Kutcher or some such person and he, the last time I checked, isn't a journalist either.
Enough with this celebrity nonsense! The only fame they have is in their own minds.
