CNN's Florida Republican Debate

All Images David S. Holloway / CNN
Highlight from Debate - Newt Gingrich criticizes Wolf Blitzer's question about wealth, and Wolf responds back during the CNN GOP debate in Jacksonville, Florida

BLITZER: We're continuing the debate here in Jacksonville, Florida.

Let's get to the issue of transparency, because voters out there, they want to know as much about you four gentlemen as possible before they vote.

Tax returns -- let me bring this to Speaker Gingrich.

Earlier this week, you said Governor Romney, after he released his taxes, you said that you were satisfied with the level of transparency of his personal finances when it comes to this. And I just want to reiterate and ask you, are you satisfied right now with the level of transparency as far as his personal finances?

GINGRICH: Wolf, you and I have a great relationship, it goes back a long way. I'm with him. This is a nonsense question.

(APPLAUSE)

GINGRICH: Look, how about if the four of us agree for the rest of the evening, we'll actually talk about issues that relate to governing America?

BLITZER: But, Mr. Speaker, you made an issue of this, this week, when you said that, "He lives in a world of Swiss bank and Cayman Island bank accounts." I didn't say that. You did.

GINGRICH: I did. And I'm perfectly happy to say that on an interview on some TV show. But this is a national debate, where you have a chance to get the four of us to talk about a whole range of issues.

BLITZER: But if you make a serious accusation against Governor Romney like that, you need to explain that.

Wolf Blitzer is taking some hits for asking
really silly questions. 19 debates enough
already.

After 19 debates, you run out of serious questions to ask.
These are all obnoxious people who don't deserve our attention.

The moderators for the CNN debates have
not been asking tough questions. There
are mostly softball questions. No questions
on republicans in Congress.Romney is also
being called out for some whoppers.

I didn't watch the debate but I did see some clips of key moments and the one that stood out was when Wolf Blitzer didn't back down and kept questioning Newt Gingrich about a statement he made. Newt tried to go into his "blame the media" mode, but Blitzer kept at Gingrich even when the audience started to boo him for doing so. I wish more reporters would do the same and not be intimidated by the candidates - if these people want to run for office, they had better be prepared to answer direct questions, no excuses.

You are kidding, 19 debates. CNN is going
to have a black eye with this debate. There
are starting to be reports that CNN had some
people to egg on the audience and that the
debate was jammed with Mitt Romney backers.
If this turns out to be true CNN did not give us
a genuine debate. I have not watched any of
the debates either.

Wolf did a great job.
And these debates have been great for CNN, it's the only time CNN can get to a million viewers.
And must say, the debate coverage team was excellent.

I do think CNN is kind of pushing Romney, I guess many people believed they were pushing President Obama back in the 2008 election, but listening to their panels, it does sound as if some of the commentators like Gergen, Crowley and Borger aren't exactly being neutral and have a pro-Romney agenda. I see a bit of that in Anderson as well.

Dana Loesch has been MIA from some of the most recent CNN election coverage. Hopefully she won't return for the Florida primary coverage either. Perhaps CNN is reconsidering her presence at the network, she brings nothing to the table and wouldn't be missed if they let her go.
