I miss the old days of Anderson Cooper 360º especially when he would travel to do his live broadcasts. It was always thrilling to see Larry King say "and now let's head over to Afghanistan for Anderson Cooper and AC360º" and then you would hear the announcer describe the show and say "Across the country and around the world, this is Anderson Cooper 360º, reporting tonight from Kabul, here's Anderson Cooper". Good old days. Now the show just jumps into a certain subject to talk about. The Situation Room is more exciting now.
thedioThe beginning of 360 last night was so powerful
and it is what I like the most about Anderson.
The video and words were so compelling. On 360
last night Anderson spoke with Marie Colvin from
Homs. Sadly, I turn on Charlie Rose this morning
to learn that she died in Syria. The conversation
she had last night with Anderson was so powerful.
She did not hold back and was brutally honest. I
have watched on the DVR more than once. Why is
the world standing by and letting this happen.
Marie Colvin died just hours after talking with
Anderson. She got that story out to the world
before her death. The video of the child dying
was hard to watch and Anderson talked about
how Team 360 debated showing the video. In
wake of the death of Marie Colvin, I say it was
the right decision. Marie Colvin told the world
the truth about Syria before dying. To me that
is real journalism. The conversation between
the 2 of them takes on a new meaning. 360
chose to lead with Syria on Tuesday. If you
get the chance, please listen to the interview.
That is the 360 I know and love. The last words
Anderson said to her were I know it is impossible
to stay safe but please try. I know CNN has a
debate tonight but as far as I am concerned
360 needs to began with Syria tonight and the
news that Marie Colvin died to tell the world
the truth.
Yes, last night's AC 360 was powerful and you can only get that kind of coverage on CNN - particularly with Anderson. I was saddened to hear of Colvin's death. I real loss to international journalism lately.
Anderson Cooper had a chilling interview with
Marie Colvin on 360. She was classy and brave.
She was a master storyteller. Fine reporting is
an art and takes skills. 360 keep raising the
bar in cable news and have high standards.
360 was heart wrenching with the video of the
baby dying. Marie Colvin made it seem like we
were there right along with her. Full episodes
of 360 should be available online after midnight.
Everyone needs to be able to see what sadly
turned out to be her final interview .
Charlie Rose gave a great tribute to Marie Colvin.
We can only hope that 360 does the same.
Anderson has been on Twitter but it has not
been updated on FB.
This is why 360 should be on at 8 & 10 PM.
Most nights I catch 360 at 10 rather than 8.
I would have not seen the interview and that
would have been a shame.
John King was anchoring 360 on Friday. He was
only 9 thousand behind ED in the demo. Ed ends
up being 4th for the week.
Sad news about Marie Colvin. 360 has opened
with Syria many nights. You won't see this on
MSNBC, FNC and definitely not on HLN at 8.CNN
has a debate tonight so I'm not watching.
360 was compelling journalism last night.
Much has been written about possible changes
in the CNN lineup. Here are my thoughts.
CBC has a show called Connect with Mark Kelley
he has focused on Syria like 360 and in many ways
the show is similar to 360. Give him the 6 PM slot.
Watch online. It
I have no problem with Aisha Tyler on at 7 PM.
She is smart and well informed.
360 on a 8 & 10 but the 2nd hour should be live.
George Strombo at 9 . A live studio audience
would be wonderful.
This the type of lineup that can get 18-34,
18-49 and even 25-54. Expand viewership.
I actually watched OutFront while Tom was anchoring. CNN should think about allowing Tom the opportunity to co- anchor with Erin. And just like with CNBC, it just may hide her many deficiencies.
While I did not see this "masterful" interview, I know that I might have missed something good.
But I like many, have totally tuned out and turned off AC/360 and this is too bad.
Mr.Cooper needs to do more masterful interviews in order to gain back his faithful viewership, before he has NO SHOW.
Wow, did anyone watch the post debate AC360º show? First of all, AC360º needs to be renamed CNN360º considering Anderson Cooper doesn't even seem to want to do his CNN show anymore and that really saddens me. I wish he would get rid of his talk show and concentrate more on his journalism and travel more for CNN. Second, if I'm not mistaken, I believe it is Anderson's turn to moderate a debate, not to mention, he wasn't even in Arizona tonight. He did his broadcast from his New York studio and just seemed to be on the side. John King basically took over at the Debate stage during 360º. I'm not liking how Anderson seems to be slowly fading away from CNN.
That debate will be 1 of the lowest rated ever.
360 is not going anywhere . CNN will keep AC
360 on at 8 & 10 for quite some time.
If Anderson's talk show gets cancelled, which is a possibility since it's struggling, will the people who want him to return to the news full time be able to regain their respect for him? It sounds like some (I'm not necessarily referring to commenters here) have become so turned off by his detour into daytime TV that they wouldn't be able to support him again if he just stopped it now. I'm not thrilled with his daytime show, I don't think it's at the level of quality that he's capable of, but I don't begrudge him trying to expand and step out of his comfort zone as a newsman. It may not have been a successful turn for him, but I do admire him for at least taking a risk, maybe this is something he needed to get out of his system and it's a learning experience that tells him he's better suited for the news, even though I do think that many of us enjoyed his occasional appearances as sub on R&K. I suppose if he had just continued doing that, his foray into "entertainment" wouldn't be so problematic for some because I don't remember seeing a lot of complaints about him doing that. For me, Anderson has always had a humorous, lighter side and he had the ability to be serious and not so serious. I always thought that was one of his assets and part of his appeal. The talk show may not be showcasing those assets in the most optimal way, but I don't down him for wanting to explore that side of himself a bit more. It's an experiment that may not work out, but I will be just as eager to watch him in news after his "failure", while respecting his decision to try something new and I will still respect him as a newsman, he's earned it.
There is a big difference between news junkies
and political junkies. I watch news online and
TV. I can watch BBC, CBC. There are ways to
find out news that regulars talk about and it is
not politics. It is also a generational thing. Most
news executives are baby boomers. There are so
many times when I can't relate to CNN, Too many
times it has nothing to do with news, information
or facts. I have 2 DVR's I rarely sit in front of the
TV. I will pick ABC,NBC or CBS each day for a
look at evening news. I record 360 and TRMS.
After that is is The Daily Show and Colbert.
The parts of each show I don't like I just skip.
I zip through the politics on 360. The ratings
show that CNN has some work to do. I now
watch CBS in the morning. After that is is on the
music channel or anything other than so-called
news channels. I find myself watching less news
on CNN. I only DVR 360. The network turned
me off in a big way. It all starts with Starting
Point. CNN couldn't come up with a better show.
News junkies have nothing to watch on any of
the supposedly 24/7 news channels.
Anderson's daytime show has been renewed.
Dr OZ, Dr Phil, Rachel Ray, Jerry Springer &
Maury have been around longer. That was the
most bogus article. It gets decent ratings like
a 1.5 . That is better than some NBC prime
time shows. Besides 360 is the least of CNN's
worries. Just this week FOX is moving closer to
averaging over 2 million. They are not moving
in the right direction. MSNBC is up. MSNBC has
a vision and plan. CNN just keeps coming up
with show nobody wants to watch.
CNN is in dire need of some leadership.
The network has trouble putting together
a viable lineup from 5- 11 PM . They try
to do a pundit rip off of Morning Joe. Go
only with pundits for everything and you
do roll your eyes and turn the channel.
Decides to give Erin Burnett a prime time
show and she is in over her head. Way to
punish viewers CNN. In fact the managers
need to have to sit and watch an entire
hour of Outfront , maybe CNN will stop
torturing viewers. There is very little to
watch on CNN besides 360 & TSR .
I only watch 360 on CNN too. I can't take Jack
Cafferty. Dude has some issues like Lou Dobbs.
TSR is boring. Same goes for John King & Erin
Burnett. 3 hours of boredom. Pundit CNN will
never draw viewers. Even American Idol is in
a ratings fall. I think the same is going on for
FNC. Obama bashing can only go so far with a
certain type of viewer. MSNBC came up with a
growth plan. Even ABC can see CNN is weak.
I am amazed that there has not been a shakeup
in the management team at CNN.
It's absolutely stupid to have a Piers Morgan promo
all day long. Where are the promos for some news
shows. Does CNN want Piers Morgan to be the face
of CNN ? Just shoot yourself in the foot. MSNBC
went with smart people who understand how to
communicate with viewers. They talk to us. CNN
just has useless back and forth alienating viewers.
I watch 360 on a case by case basis. When was the
last time you saw any of the CNN political reporters
on 360 When pundits lead the show they lose me
and I don't come back. 360 can't book Joe Klein
and he is a Time Warner employee.
I am currently watching ABC NEWS. They had
an unbelievable story on what is really driving
up gas prices it turns out Wall St and not only
that they make money each time we fill up and
guess what this comes from the same board
that warned about mortgages. Bet you won't
see that on Erin Burnett or CNN. Reporting is
not that important on CNN.
In order to have an insane amount of content.
CNN needs to hire dozens of journalists who
write, shoot and edit all of their own stuff.
Backpacks travel around the globe and get
their hands on some interesting stories. The
news is just not going to come to you in the
studio. Anyone who came out of journalism
school in the last 5 years can do this. Also,
hire producer/video editors. These are sort
of filmmakers who can turn mini movies
all day long. Yes, you have to have Anderson,
Wolf and reporters talk to you about the news
stories you will see, be live as much as possible
all day long. At the end just put up infographics
at the end telling viewers when they can see
a particular story. That is how you engage
viewers. You actually reach out and talk to
them. This can help viewers get a feel for the
news all day long on CNN. Let's see those
cameras in the news rooms, control rooms
and staff meetings. CNN is using and prehistoric
business model. These are the type of promos
you should see all day on CNN. Even find ways
to mix them into commercial breaks. You have
to do something to keep viewers around 24/7.
Give viewers the opportunity to experience the
news.
Keep all of those fine journalists as well but
give the time to really work on their stories.
It does not have to be anchors sitting at the
desk or day long or standing and yes have a
daily playlist that gets viewers to go to CNN's
website to find the playlists. There are reasons
why you hear why you hear Amen Omen by
Ben Harper in that Liberty Mutual commercial.
Also, Alabama Shakes for Zales. Music helps
draw your attention but make sure the songs
match up with the stories.
Everyone on CNN must be on Face Book &
Twitter all day long engaging with potential
viewers. If you reach out to people, they will
reach back. Hello, engage viewers. Get away
from the pundits . Go with a new business
model. When CNN does Raw Politics let it
be pre-produced with CNN reporters and
music. How often is there breaking political
news. Began with the pictures of the reporters
with their names over their photo. Give it that
grainy film look. In the beginning have the
photos be black and white. Not those boring
publicity photos.
Please get rid of the clutter. Too much is going
on from moving backgrounds to too much junk
at the bottom of the screen. What is wrong with
full screen video and media bars for packages.
Lose the banners after 7 seconds. There is no
need for it to be up all of the time. Drop the
banner when you have animation and maps
or still photos and infographics. The banners
are too intrusive. The dancing background on
360 annoys me. Along with the lack of camera
movement and shots What is wrong with pics
and videos being in the monitors behind AC.
I would like to see Starting Point canceled in
favor of a brand new show aimed at women.
Female journalists, writers, movers & shakers.
Each morning have an ethnically diverse group
of women.. No politics and see what happens.
A real alternative to Morning Joe . Fox & Friends.
I really don't get the Time Warner firewall.
Time and Sports Illustrated are top notch
and rich in content. Hello, more content.
CNN just continues to lose IQ points and
can't have a smart discussion on anything.
Last night Erin Burnett had on Rudy Giuliani
to bash President Obama on Iran. Why ? He
is not an expert and she had him on for 1
thing. Just bash Obama. Nobody trusts what
they see on CNN anymore. What a joke. CNN
is likely losing newsies. They know what they
see on CNN is not true. Opinion can't replace
facts. Wake up CNN. Ted Turner please buy
back your network.
CBS News is getting it right. CNN is getting it all
wrong. I tip my hat to Jeff Fager and David Rhodes.
CBS gets what CNN fails to understand. News, info
content. Real journalism matters to CBS. I love the
new morning show and Scott Pelley. According to
TVN he topped Diane Sawyer in the demo last week
and is growing. CNN does need diversity and many
diverse shows. Jon Stewart and Colbert have more
credibility on politics than CNN. The is a huge
market for news. The problem is no one gets this
on cable news. Ratings for FNC & CNN are going
down because the look alike.
MSNBC is outperforming CNN because CNN is
poorly managed. CNN stupidly decided to align
itself with the tea party rather than coming up
with a game plan to beat FNC. MSNBC is not
afraid of the conservative media who control
CNN. MSNBC decided to beat FNC not be them.
CNN stupidly thought FNC viewers would turn
to CNN since they are imitating FNC. So not
happening and that is why CNN is becoming
the channel that nobody wants to watch. What
is the point of CNN these days. HLN is a crime
channel and CNN is a talking head channel and
both channels are losers.
Erin Burnett is so biased against President Obama, it's shameful that she's allowed to continuously bash him.
I like that Gary Tuchman is now anchoring
weekends on CNN but I have a confession.
I only watch him at 7 AM. I am a fan of the
new MSNBC morning lineup with Chris Hayes
and Prof Melissa Harris Perry. Man if MSNBC
ever moves Chris Hayes to the daily schedule,
CNN will be in big trouble. If they put him on
right before Alex Wagner. CNN's daytime
ratings will drop lower. MSNBC is starting to
beat CNN morning day and night. I am not a
fan of Brooke Baldwin . CNN made me go with
Tamron Hall and Martin Bashir. Not a fan of
Dylan or Hard Ball. TSR was better with the 2
internet reporters. The show is dull. I have not
seen TSR in a year.
I have seen Aisha Tyler mentioned here. CNN
needs her. I hope you guys get your wish with
her and the Strombo guy. It can't hurt CNN.
TV Newser has the ratings for Thursday. The
numbers did seem low for FOX. Lets face it.
Rachel Maddow was the 1st news personality
to shine light on the Virginia personhood law.
CNN just listens to Limbaugh, Beck , Drudge
& FOX NEWS. There is nothing original. Who
is looking for video or something viewers are
not aware of . Rachel's show is going to grow
as a result. CNN tries to make the silly talk
a serious topic. Women are the majority of
voters. Does polling reflect that or is it still
mostly men ? It is also a generational thing.
Rachel Maddow is in her 30's . Most of the
people talking politics are older and white
males. It is the 21st century. Let me know
when cable news catches up.
There has been much criticism on the blog
about 360 but they have been coving Syria
and leading with Syria long before others.
The gas prices story is a little tricky. It depends
on the state, city and where you buy gas. Costco
and Sam's Club have cheaper gas. I saw a news
story saying that most of the oil being sold today
is being bought from traders. Then you have Iran
in the mix. When Kyra says 5 dollar gas. That is
not really true. It depends on the grade and your
home state.CNN has to do a better job on the
whole story.CNN has to devote time to get the
story right and accurate .CNN has shows that
are on for 2 hours so do some in depth reports.
Yes, it is true about gas prices, and the state in which you reside.
Recently I moved from New Jersey to Delaware and the price of gas is relatively, the same in both states.
Please keep in mind that NJ is the most expensive state to live in and Delaware is the least and yet, at the pump, you wouldn't know the difference.
Last night on 360 Anderson did try to put things
into perspective on gas prices and all of the factors.
Finally, he told the pundits to stop interrupting.
Please 360 expand the guests lists beyond pundits.
Excellent Syria coverage . Smart conversation too.
Rachel Maddow had the best banner the other
night with the title The Virginia Monologues. It
would have been amazing to see what Aisha Tyler
would come up with for that topic. CNN needs a
strong female host.
You have to admit MSNBC has some good talent.
They have Chris Hayves. Melissa Harris- Perry,
Ezra Klein & Toure. they have a strong bench
They have strong signature shows. Morning
Joe, Hard Ball, Politics Nation, Ed Rachel Maddow
& Lawrence O'Donnell. CNN has an uphill battle.
