I was surprised to see a CNN commercial yesterday during primetime stating (if I'm not mistaken at what I saw) how they have been #1 for the past 30 years? I only caught the end of the commercial but found it to be interesting, especially after the April ratings.

Rachel seems to be getting closer to Greta.
Maybe if CNN actually took action they will
get back into the game. ED's demos are
going down. Go back to the original version
of 360 and you might get back 360 fans.

1 of the best ways for CNN to help out Wolf
Blitzer is to use Twitter & Face Book in place of
the crawl. It is the best way to use old and new
media. Everything has to match up. All news orgs
are on social media. For example, NC votes on
gay marriage. So how about matching up TSR
stories with tweets/ FB posts with the news story
being feature on CNN. it is not a mix of old and
new media. You have NC media, and other news
orgs following the story. Use material from real
news sources. CNN could just use tweets from
other news orgs all day long to give you real
time updates as well.

Congratulations to Wolf Blitzer for his 22 years at CNN! There have been a few comments in previous posts dissing him. I have no idea why when he is the true star at CNN, very passionate and energetic. He is awesome! You can tell he loves what he does. I also agree with a previous comment that he should be the prime time lead in to the 8:00pm hour. There should be an All Things Wolf blog.

I read that Kelly Ripa said her all time favorite co-host on Live! besides Regis was Anderson Cooper. I would love if he left his talk show and became the permanent co-host with her, giving him the opportunity to travel for CNN while she held up the fort. I think he would enjoy it way more too.

I love the Mike Fiore idea for TSR. CNN's
politics sucks. It is all about ideology or
trying to get you worked up and angry.
CNN must change the tone of the entire
network. Where is the analysis and a real
conversation that goes somewhere. CNN
has the misconception that regular people
are so consumed by politics all day long
and don't care about anything else. That
is why they are out of touch. As if the year
in politics could go no lower. Now the media
need to ask Cabinet members what are their
stands on same sex marriage. What's next
how do they feel about interracial marriage.

On air use of tweets and FB is what largely contributed to the dumbing down and ultimate destruction of CNN. Rick Sanchez anyone? Just bring us the damn news, real reporting, not political punditry. Let news be the star, leave opinion stars to Fox and MSNBC.

Ed's demos are STILL always higher than Anderson's and he got an 818 in totals to Anderson's 300 something.
Please. Start worrying about Anderson and leave ED Shultz to MSNBC. ED knows when to jump on the band wagon and has labor on his side.
Anderson found no reason to support labor so union people just aren't supporting him and guess what?
They watch TV.
MSNBC knows how to use their talent wisely. Something CNN never learned how to do, and I stress the word, "wisely."

It's absolutely ridiculous that CNN is labeling the headline "Polls Close in Indiana Primary" as BREAKING NEWS. Seriously? Mitt Romney is already the presumptive nominee, so what makes this state so extremely news worthy of Breaking News? CNN please come up with a new major news alert banner and use it appropriately.

Anonymous said...

CNN should be renamed to BNN: Breaking News Network. I see that yellow banner just as much as the red lettered logo.

@7.06pm

That wasn't the presidential primary in Indiana, it was senatorial primary and it's good they labeled it as breaking news cause the tea party candidate ousted Dick Lugar, longest serving Republican in US Senate.

Anonymous said...

The Indiana Primary Breaking News happened at 7PM, followed by Breaking News that Mitt Romney won the primary, followed by Breaking News about the foiled terror plot which broke yesterday, followed by Breaking News at 7:30PM that North Carolina polls closed, followed by Breaking News of that senator, followed by Breaking News that Mitt Romney won North Carolina, followed by Breaking News that West Virginia closed its polls, followed by Breaking News that Mitt Romney won.

Look, no one is taking about Rich Sanchez.
That's the wrong way to use Twitter. No way
should you post opinion on the screen. All
news organizations are on social media for
a reason. You could use NYT, Time, ABC,
CBS, NBC, AP, Reuters, Breaking News, etc.
There are news organizations worldwide that
you can follow and find massive amounts
of content. I guarantee that is what MSNBC
is doing because they have massive amounts
of content. CNN should be tracking down
news and stories for all of their shows.CNN
just sits on it's butt and talk. it is not worth
watching. Just keep making us turn away.

For example, you can lose the banner while
Wolf is talking about the CIA double agent.
Newsflash. Legit news organization had this
on Twitter & FB before CNN. There is real
news on Twitter, FB, You Tube and others.
Muck Rack lets you follow journalists on
social media.

CNN can't afford to keep going with pundits.
Starting Point is now under 200,000 viewers
& Out Front is under 300,000. How long have
they supposedly been trying to fix CNN. Where
is the evidence. That is why CNN keeps bleeding
viewers. It has hit us that CNN is too stubborn
to admit the network is a hot mess. The suits
think they are right.

MSNBC has better journalistic instincts. They
know good content and how to use it . Look
at what Dylan has at 4 PM and go to TSR.
E-mail. Rachel's has one heck of a staff that
goes searching for excellent content . Morning
Joe has journalists, authors, experts. CNN goes
with pundits. CNN is not smart enough to get
out of this mess. Soledad is going with more
pundits and 360 had 3 on last night.

Despite evidence staring them right in the face,
they keep the pundits coming. Jon Stewart told
you years ago that Crossfire was useless. CNN
thinks we should be subjected to it every hour.
CNN is terrible, awful, you pick the adjective.

How does CNN miss the words that comes out
of the mouth of Mitt Romney ? CNN just makes
up stupid questions in an effort to distract viewers
Romney is claiming credit for GM. This guy has
some serious issues and lies too easily. But you
won't hear about it on CNN. Romney is their man.
Morning Joe was all over it but not Soledad.

@11:47 pm

If memory serves, 7pm eastern is OutFront timeslot. Assuming they didn't pre-empt her show, which I assume they didn't since AC and Piers was on, what do you expect? Poor girl is not the brightest bulb so in her head it probably was breaking news ;)

BTW, I think you made an excellent point about CNN's overuse of breaking news. It is also a great point on the hyperbole that is regularly manufactured on OutFront. I didn't really tune in to last night's election results - seemed pointless.

CNN is insane. The dummies hired another
GOP'er from FNC.. Idiots run CNN. A relative
of Herbert Hoover is not too bright. 2 words :
Great Depression. CNN will never get it. They
are in trouble for trying to be Just like FOX.

CNN is making me become a loyal MSNBC
viewer. I DVR 360 so I can skip the talking
heads. I am definitely watching MSNBC for
the conventions and election night. May will
be worst for CNN. When I hear that CNN is
canceling Starting Point & Out Front and
hiring political reporters for an intelligent
political conversation, I might come back.
Dissing viewers is not working for CNN. I
call it negligence when you don't have a
backup plan if shows don't work.

TVnewser has a very interesting article on how Erin Burnett OutFront is doing almost 8 months now.

MSNBC has breaking news that President Obama
will announce his support for gay marriage. CNN
has not even mentioned that at all. CNN is not
breaking news anymore. Listen to Jay Rosen.
