In my opinion, CNN US could continue to be #1 if it is replaced by CNN International which is #1 pretty much all over the world. I would love for this to happen considering I don't get CNN International except when I'm out of the country every Summer. It is terrific. Way better than CNN US. Have the biggest stars at CNN like Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer (whose shows are already simulcasted all over the world on CNNI) and whoever else host shows during prime time US hours as well as other big events. There is a simulcast between the two channels anyway during major events like the Election, Inauguration, primary season, presidential speeches, and of course major breaking news, so why not? CNN US is getting too predictable in a way.
I am very worried that CNN is going to push Anderson out. I keep reading all these rumours about him being replaced by Ann Curry. Ann Curry is never going to make it with a show of her own. There is a reason she was demoted on the Today Show - she is very blah.
CNN needs a diverse prime time line up that is smart,
informative, creative and fun at times. Really dig what
they are doing with 360 these days. Bob Costas and
Jason Wu were on the show last night. Good move. It
was pundit free. Thank you Anderson Cooper.
I noticed that CNN released the data for 18-34. 360
in the original version could bring in 18-29,18-34,
18-49,18-54,25-54. Bring back the cool bump music
now. Also make the open more polished with added
production and music.
360 beat both ED & Last Word in the demo on
Friday. ED Is the weakest link at MSNBC. It will be
interesting to see how things play out between
Ed & 360 for 3 months. By then we can get a feel
for how things might be trending in cable news
this year. The FOX ratings are a stunner.
I just hope that Jeff Zucker does not repeat the
Leno Conan fiasco. Viewers have become used
to seeing 360 at a certain time on CNN.
MSNBC could afford to drop Countdown because
they had a strong bench and TRMS was topping
Keith in the ratings. Besides you can be sure
that is CNN drops 360 that MSNBC will pick the
show up and put it right on at 8 PM. Ed would
move to 7, replacing a Hardball repeat. If MSNBC
gets Anderson Cooper, it is game over for CNN.
AC has news cred, the only thing that is missing
from MSNBC for breaking news and big news
stories. Which ever network has Anderson Cooper,
that's the one I will watch. 360 is my favorite news
show.
I agree with Anonymous 11:40PM's comment. That would be a fantastic idea. I was overseas for the New Year in a country hours ahead of America and turned to CNN International early New Years morning to catch the countdown with Anderson Cooper. I was delighted that there was a simulcast. On a side note, I'm watching the Benghazi hearings with Hillary Clinton now on CNN and it too is being simulcasted all over the world. Would love for CNNI to replace CNN US.
Have you guys noticed a new CNN promo that aired a few minutes ago with the iconic voice of James Earl Jones. You hear the voice and the words appear on screen as he says the famous this is CNN phrase. Good to see CNN get back to it's roots. They have also been running a promo for TSR on Hillary Clinton testifying on Benghazi. Good move. Now if only CNN updates some of the sound from the hearing into the promos. There were plenty of exchanges that get your attention. Many
times the TV is background noise but if you hear something that catches your attention you look at the screen. Create multiple promos for TSR with
clips from the hearings all day long. I am skeptical that Ann Curry will replace Anderson Cooper. That would be Erin Burnett and Campbell Brown all over again. With all of the problems at CNN why would
Jeff Zucker drop 360. You have to admit that 360, Rachel Maddow and The Last Word would be a pretty good primetime news lineup. MSNBC would really be a threat to FNC. They would definitely win the demo.
CNN might drop 1 hour of 360 being that one is a repeat but Ann Curry replacing Anderson Cooper would be a disaster for CNN. Curry was a part of Today that is losing to GMA badly. Today is boring. CNN needs to stop hiring talent from other networks. Every time CNN has done this it fails. It is more about content, story-telling and format. Try some fresh faces like Conor Knighton, Team Vanguard, George Strombo but keep 360 & TSR.
I would think Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer had a role in those ratings for CNN. Here comes another
CNN train wreck if AC 360 is no long on CNN. Only CNN would give MSNBC a gift.
Let me get this straight. Starting Point, Outfront and
PMT stay and 360 is replaced by someone who was
removed off of a show for low ratings. Really, CNN.
If 360 is not on CNN, the ratings will drop more. Ann
Curry won't fly, neither will Jake Tapper.
All those Ann Curry rumors of her coming to CNN (which may happen) and being placed at 8:00PM (which could also happen) doesn't mean that she will replace Anderson Cooper. I HIGHLY doubt that would happen. He still has his 10:00PM time slot, or could be moved to another time slot in prime time considering the other rumors that Piers Morgan will move up to later at night and that Erin Burnett will perhaps be moving to mornings.
I think you might want to check the spelling of your heading:
word completion?
Do you mean competition?
Well it only happens every 4 years.
What will CNN do in the mean time??
They have four years to come up with something.
This is a fact: Piers Morgan, like him or not, IS out performing 360 in ratings.
There is NO need to give Cooper two time slots.
Thanks anon 10:25. This time it wasn't our fault, we just copied and pasted the release that CNN sent. We've corrected it.
Those of you who have been advocating a news program for women are way ahead of everyone. Think about the news out of the Pentagon about women in combat and Hillary Clinton. There is a reality that CNN and the media at large needs to acknowledge, women are gong to be very much a part of the news.
Last night I thought 360 was so disrespectful of Tammy Duckworth. This is a woman who lost both her legs in combat and to put her in the middle of a conversation that did not belong with John King and pundit Hoover was wrong and 360 made a factual error. This is coming from the Pentagon no the White House. Women in combat has long been under review by the Pentagon. There are even legal battles from women wanting to serve in combat roles. This has zero to do with Obama's policy and is about the reality on the ground. It has already been happening and the Pentagon is just embracing the obvious. Tammy Duckworth kept trying to educate them and they still did not get it. Do facts no longer matter at CNN. They are so blinded by ideology. Someone needs to change the culture and mentality. Are the permitted to go beyond the pundits. Let's face it the talking heads are not experts on anything but BS.
This is what happens when you only talk to pundits or make the wrong assumption that everything is political . Take a step back and think, research and get the facts straight 360. 360 comes on at 8 so there was time for research it's not like it happened 5 minutes before air. Does CNN have researchers. The only 2 people who should have been on to speak on the topic were Tammy Duckworth and Crhris Lawrence. I hate to say it but I think Anderson Cooper came in with a biased point of view because before the show he only talked with John King and the pundit. I say this because they seemed to be all on the same page and Tammy Duckworth could not get them to turn the page. This is a huge story and 360 failed to get it. There is a reality that cable news does not seem to live in nor comprehend.
CNN has to get away from pundit TV now because they are not talking about facts or the story itself.
It makes CNN liook dumb. I get a lot of news from the internet from real news organizations all around the world and I can tell you that so much of what you get on CNN is factually wrong and made up.
Unless there is a female in charge of CNN, there will
never be a women's news show. The men in power at
all of the cable news channels are not modern men.
Just look at the NY Post with Hillary Clinton. Let's face
it most of the men in charge don't want strong, smart
intelligent women on cable news. They can't deal with
it because the have 20th century minds when it comes
to women. People President Obama's age and under
are different. It is a generational thing. The men in
charge are only used to tired old formulas in cable
news. Not long ago there was a study that showed
people who don't watch the news are more informed. If you try to watch cable news, you can
easily see why. For goodness sake, Bloomberg uses
modern music and CNN does not. Who doesn't
listen to music and news at the same time ?
Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer are the reason I watch CNN. These pundits are aggravating. How is it that Margaret Hoover and Ari Fleischer are such know it alls. Yes new faces are needed to back up Wolf and Anderson. Jake Tapper is a good start. Start phasing out the old like Carol Costello, Don Lemon and Suzanne Malveneux. By the way where is Fredericka? I hope she has not been fired. I like her.
If you want a woman's news show, watch The View or The Talk. You'll just have to deal with the entertainment involved.
This post has turned into a Your Views On The News haha love it. Always enjoy reading what CNN fans have to say.
Wow. Maybe Jeff Zucker is a good fit for CNN. It has been announced that CNN has hired Rachel Nichols from ESPN to to a weekend sports show. He is on record saying he wants to diversity CNN shows. This is a good first step. Love that CNN is getting back into the sports game. Will he really get away from politically centered news and the same stories all over again. Technically this is his first big hire. A female sports anchor is big news for CNN.Nichols is a highly respected sports journalist.
That is really insulting to call The View and Talk news shows for women. Both are entertainment shows. A group of diverse female journalists should happen. With Rachel Nichols they have someone who can come on and talk sports. Last I checked a women's news show does not exist.
@6:04pm - that is awesome! I also think it would be a great idea for CNN to have Alina Cho host a weekend fashion show. All these half hour upcoming weekend shows are great!
Hillary Clinton is a very well respected political personality who has captured the nation's attention with her aggressiveness and smarts.
However, she might have tempered her remarks to the Senate congressional committee on Benghazi.
She came across as very emotional, and emphatically implied that what she said was in fact, 'personal.'
A male counter part, would have demonstrated less emotion in his testimony. Ms. Clinton offered no new facts about the deadly protests, organized or not. She appeared defensive and surprisingly, ill prepared.
The GOP will no doubt use her presentation on Benghzai against her, should she attempt to run for the Presidency in 016.
It was not one of her more positive moments of her seemingly flawless tenure, as Secretary of State, unfortunately.
Who would take exception with a women's news show ?
The Talk is okay but not news. Can't take the View. Guess some are concerned it would easily become the top rated cable news show because the for the 1st time in cable news history females would not be ignored. Women are the majority population. It would be a logical step for CNN to take. Rachel Nichols is a welcome addition to CNN. It would be great if CNN could get a Pintrest like news show for women. Sharing the news about whatever.
CNN should have a daily sports show similar to
The Lights on NBC Sports Channel. They have Joe Carter he could give us extended clips and interviews. ESPN can be short with the highlights at times. Show all of the games. CNN should have a fashion show, music and arts show, even live performances with entertainers stopping by CNN in NY or Atlanta. Of course the fashion and music would be on weekends only. So far on the weekends that is Anthony Bourdain, Morgan Spurlock and Rachel Nichols. Making the move to shows that provide CNN with plenty of content is smart. Finally, someone wants to stop being a 24/7 politics news only channel. Drop the repeats on weekends too.
Building to CNN to be a 1 source stop for news about everything news, world news, spots, music and the arts, live performances, who doesn't like Austin CIty Limits. Interviews with authors filmmakers, innovators and stories that CNN come across. I hope
he hies the Vanguard Team to bring CNN their unique documentary style. Add Marianna Van Zeller,
Kaj Larsen, Adam Yamaguchi and Christof Putzel.
Laura Ling was the brains behind the series. Get her and the crew back together CNN would be the only place you could see the award winning series. Give me Strombo any night. I watch all of the episodes online already. By the way George does docs too.
Will Rachel's show incorporate the awesome sports
reporting from Sports Illustrated ? Don't like that
CNN dot.com is going to Bleacher Report. BR is not
exactly real journalism and real sports fan know BR
is clueless about sports overall.
If CNN does a music show, they should go with Douglas Cabellero as the host. Coachella is underway right now. It would be nice if CNN could become the HBO of cable news. A real game changer. HBO was the first movie channel to create original programming. Now Showtime, AMC and even IFC with Portlandia have moved in the same direction.
Sorry meant to say Cochella starts in Apirl, when CNN is starting some new shows. The lineup came out today.
Honestly The Cycle is my favorite political show.
All are reasonable likable hosts. They strike the
right tone and don't come off as divisive or angry.
It is unlike anything that is out there when it comes
to political shows. I love the writing and interaction
with all of the hosts. It seems genuine and not fake.
Maybe CNN can get them to do a morning show by
luring them away from MSNBC. They also cover many
other subjects.
