It's nice to hear some good news about CNN. Anderson did a great job. I don't understand why Fox still gets great ratings during a big story with all the untalented correspndents that work there. CNN really does have a lot of talent.

Jeff Zucker will take those insane demos any day. CNN lead FOX by as many demo viewers as FOX did with CNN with viewers. That's pretty unusual. For CNN that means FOX has a weakness. Now if CNN can only figure out haw to exploit the weakness by bringing in viewers who are under 50. If CNN starts winning the demos, that is huge news in the news world. Can CNN actually pull off demos wins on a daily basis ? Parts unknown will be beneficial to CNN on Sundays. TV BY THE NUMBERS has some ratings for the weekend and CNN tore it up in the demos again.

Have you guys noticed that CNN has been going with
Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper during the dayside
for the last couple of days.

This is good news for CNN but a message from viewers as well. CNN needs to be the world's largest source for news-oriented programming. Let MSNBC & FNC go with political commentary, the broken record in cable news. Content, content and more news content. Contributors should not be pundits but people who can bring CNN something viewers can't get anywhere else. Please Mr. Zucker fix CNN graphics. They are in need of a serious upgrade, too much on screen clutter.

There is much CNN bashing these days but CNN just might be getting the last laugh.

CNN and FOX have both released dueling press releases. CNN says we won the demo and FOX says we won with total viewers. Split decision. However, Fox strangely admits that it was a pretty good week for CNN by acknowledging that CNN wa the # 3 network. CNN is the underdog. Ironically, FOX pointed out how well CNN performed. Next up : the press releases for April 2013 from CNN, FOX & MSNBC.

@11:04am
I haven't watched a lot of CNN lately due to their surprisingly mediocre coverage, but I tuned in around lunchtime yesterday and was shocked to discover Anderson anchoring live. Jake Tapper was there too providing good reporting. They totally pre-empter the international news hour. Are they still doing it? How long can they cover the Boston issue live? CNN is gonna milk this for all it it worth. Its turned into an informercial for all their big anchors. It seems like they are desperately clinging to any ratings bounce they can get. I never thought I would agree with Don Imus - CNN is done. Bad coverage, too much melodrams and people making stuff up as they go along and anchors who spend too much time on TV looking at their blackberry. Depressing how much CNN has gone downhill.

That is some good news and they sure worked their behinds off for it in the last 10 days or so.

I think the only reason Fox "News" still tops anyone in anything is that it is the only network conservatives/teabaggers can turn to while liberals/progressives and moderates have a whole set of networks to choose from. So those viewers are devided between the more extreme liberal (and opinionated.. MSNBC *cough*) networks and the more neutral ones like CNN.

Anyway, I am glad that at least trying to focus on news and content rather than opinion pays off. It's kind of amusing that they got bashed so badly but like Anon 12:41 PM said, they might be getting the last laugh. :)

Anon 11:04 AM:
There was a lit of negative feedback for Chris and Erin when they did the dayside reporting so many they have come to their senses because Anderson and Wolf just do the best job and bring in the highest ratings?

I have really enjoyed having Anderson and Wolf anchoring during the day. They are the best. I personally think that CNN has done a good job and I really don't care what Don Imus says! I also am beginning to like Jake Tapper.

Anonymous said...

I for one like Chris and thought he did a great job along with everyone else on CNN. However, I am getting a bit tired of you always making Anderson out to be a god and the only person at CNN who does a good job. I used to be just like you until I took off the rose colored glasses and saw how things really were. I wish you luck in making it Anderson 24/7, but as for me I will watch the network that gives me the best news and not just the prettiest anchor.

The Washington Post is reporting that the mother of the two suspects, is saying that this entire event was a "set up" and that her sons are being persecuted because they were Muslim.... Right.
They are also reporting that the lead prosecutor may well ask for the death penalty for the one remaining son because he was an accomplice and there's video showing him leaving his backpack with explosives, in back of the young Martin boy. (inhumane)

@7:49PM: I agree with you in part, but I do not think Chris Cuomo is a
good fit for CNN.
Somehow he makes a good anchor, but a poor street reporter. I don't think he did that much street reporting at ABC.
He does well with a teleprompter, which is more than I can say for Erin and I too am beginning to like Jake Tapper.
With a little more promotion he may well be ready for primetime on CNN.

I have to say right up front, I really dislike Republican Senator Linsay Graham, because he seldom makes any sense and is so far right, he's almost off the printed page, BUT, I have to agree with his denouncement of the suspect and his rights.
He has stated publically that the suspect's ties to 'radical Islamic thoughts' justifies enemy combatant status,' and this was and is, my understanding as well.
No one is punishing him because he is a Muslim but when your thoughts are thoughts of destruction in mass, and your reasoning is such that innocent people are maimed because of your religious beliefs, than you are commiting treason, and therefore ARE an enemy combatant.
If his fellow members of the Republican Party are in agreement, and they may not be, than the suspect should be tried in a military court of law, not Federal Court, which is what the Obama Administration is seeking.
For once, this man is on the right track, and that's not a pun.

Jon Stewart is the only one I respect when it comes to criticism of CNN. He's genuine. All of the other characters don't matter nor are they relevant. John King has owned the mistake and CNN needs to make sure this sort of thing does not happen in the future. Viewers obviously didn't have a problem with CNN and Anthony Bourdain's show is a big hit for CNN.

Unfortunately for CNN fans, the network has decided to take a giant step backwards to the 20th century by bringing back Crossfire. Just when you think CNN is getting better they find ways to make you not want to watch CNN. New Politics like the band CNN.

Yes, Jake Tapper has potential and I'm glad that his show in the 4Pm hour is up in the ratings.
You could tell from his street reporting that he is a quick study
and has the ability to think on his
feet, unlike some of the other newly hired at CNN.
Just today, Wolf Blitzer was heard and seen, giving Chris Cusomo tips on what to do, in the recently opened business sections, that were closed off during the Boston bombings.
If Chris Cuomo needed those tips, that were really all common sense, than he really didn't learn his street smarts at ABC.

@Anon 7:49 PM:

I honestly don't think Chris is doing a good job as a street reporter and in breaking news in general when he has to talk off the cuff.
And that has nothing to do with looks ('cos he is actually quite attractive). It' not like I find Wolf hot and yes, Anderson is pretty and charismatic but I like him and Wolf best because to me they simply do the best job. Tuchmann and King I can listen to as well and I am warming up to Tapper but when it comes to breaking news, being out in the field and keeping words in check while talking off the cuff, Anderson is simply excellent.

Can we get TJ & Betty back on the weekend mornings. CNN just is not the same on weekends without these 2 and hey seem to be available. Crossfire just means another hour not to watch CNN.

Anonymous said...

Chris was hired for being a Cuomo. He was born into enough privilege and power, he did get and street smarts. Same for half of CNN's big names.

Anonymous said...

Correction to my previous post:
"He was born into enough privilege and power, he didn't get any street smarts."
Hazard of typing on phone.

I just became aware that Betty Nguyen fills in on the early NBC show once in awhile. What a waste! She should be back on CNN. Also Zoraida needs to go. She has no personality especially compared to Betty.

Anonymous said...

CNN needs to wake up. The network should have never let Tj and Betty go in the first place. Also, Don't mess with the editions of 360 at 8 and 10 PM. CNN will lose those demos if they do. The changing demographics of America tells you that the time has passed for Crossfire. Even Salon says CNN needs to stick to news and let MSNBC and FNC fight it out with the bickering. CNN should aim higher.

Anonymous said...

Couldn't agree more. Whenever they mess with the 8 and 10 PM time slot people will just switch the channel because they come there for their AC360 and not for some "debate" show. Unless it is the kind of show Bill Maher does, and that is impossible on any channel that has to censor the more extreme stuff, those kind of shows are just annoying and not what the CNN audience is looking for.

But what I have been wondering about for some time. Since the Ridiculist is pretty popular, maybe they could produce an independed segment for each day that is a bit longer than the usual 3 minutes? Something like a satirical commentary of the day. Because even a 24 hours serious news channel should be allowed to have some fun once in a while. :)

Anyway, 'Parts Unknown' looks to be a great addition and I love that they don't beep out the moderate swearing and that you can still figure out the harsher words, hehe. That's how many people talk so that's fine with me.

Yes I do hope they keep AC 360 at both times. If Strombo works out, I hope they would put him at 11:00 EST.

CNN is continuing to milk this tragedy for all it's worth and I for one, don't appreciate it.
Just this afternoon, Anderson was speaking to a fireman about the same thing that was asked days ago,
what it was like saving someone.
OK. We get it. They were the first responders to the tragedy.
You spoke with them already and then you spoke to the victims about how it feels to lose a foot or a leg.
It is time for the victims to heal and your viewers to move on.
We want to know WHY the FBI and the CIA, even after 9/11, still are not commuicating with one another and WHY, the Russian warnings were not taken seriously.
While we realize that the data bases might get hundreds of warnings, a warning from Russia should have been a really big RED FLAG.
Instead of looking at Benghazi, let's start looking at THIS.
Someone, goofed in INTELLIGENCE.
They should be held accountable, and hello, fired.

Saw Mary Snow's interview with Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly, at the command center in NYC.
After 9/11, NYC is perhaps the most secure city in the world.
It may take hours to get through the Lincoln Tunnel on any given day
but nobody complains because we have become very used to the security measures that are already in place.
Sometimes trucks and cargo are checked randomly and sometimes every piece of freight is looked into, depending on the alert level at that particular moment.
Ray Kelly has proven to be excellent. And he has said, "We need to be right 100% of the time."
Boston and other major cities need to develop this attitude and training.

CNN's summertime lineup should be 360 at 8 & 10
PM. PUt Strombo on at 9 PM. George will likely hold
on to Anderson's demo. They are the right fit for CNN
in prime time. 360 is performing much better at 8. So
if CNN finds the right show at 9. the network will likely get the prime time demo win. Stombo makes it harder
for Rachel Maddow. His show is hipper and newsier.
TRMS has been a little boring lately.

Listening to bombing survivor Heather Abbott tell Anderson about her ordeal, was very inspiring.
However, I get the feeling that many of the survivors who have multiple injuries from the blasts,
are still dealing with the trauma and have yet to actually deal with the aftermath of what will become of them with the loss of a limb.
They are all still in shock saying they are in the moment but when everything becomes a reality or the new normal for them, it will feel more like a death. Especially those who were dealth a double blow and lost both limbs from amputation.
This is when the actual trauma of loss will set in, and the feeling of anger will ultimately arise.
That is when there will be an awakening as what actually was inflicted upon them.
Anger, is after all, part of loss after one suffers a personal death.
