Oh geez, glass table with leg shots. This is a Fox knock-off if I've ever seen it. Bleck. Horrible.
no way in hell will i watch this GARBAGE
Two conservative commentators, two not especially articulate sports guys and no way to tell who represents the liberal side of things. A thrown together grab bag of topics with people talking all over each other and...Donnie Deutsch...it was even worse than it sounds. I'll take a 360 repeat over The Point (which had none) any day but those days are apparently over.
The talking over each other was a real turn off to me. I'm not sure why it doesn't bother me when the women of The View do it but on The Point it drove me nuts.
It was awful. I find it hard to believe that CNN can not find more interesting people. Soledad and her panel were far superior.
Donny Deustch is an excellent choice for the this panel, because he was always on point on his own show, and he's on point now.
This will be sadly, Obama's legacy, that he was ill suited to negotiate with congress in both terms, especially on the gun issue.
And yes, if he didn't act and use his executive powers RIGHT AFTER the tragedy in Newtown, when feelings were raw, he will never pass any legislation that will make any sort of dent in gun control.
What did he do? He passed this job off to Joe Biden, hoping that he would be able to negotiate some sort of deal instead of doing "his job" and using the power of the Presidency, an acting responsibly....and I too supported him.
Now its too late and they've already folded.
Shame on all of them.
Liked the clip.
This could be the right show at the wrong time.
I agree there should be better known people here other than Donny Deutsch, but liberal voices....not on gun issues.
I don't care to hear them support Obama when in fact, he can't get one thing passed.
It doesn't matter whether they are conservative or not, but more dynamic choices would be better.
And no, what we do not need is a repeat of 360, which failed to actually address the issue of gun control in any meaningful way....ever.
right show, wrong time, better panel, relevant topic.
CNN's newest release says that Erin Burnett was up both 7% and 5%
which includes her demo.
Really?
Does anyone actually believe that she went up at all, anytime anywhere?
The only true line was that 360 at 10PM was down 33% and 22% in the demo....the rest is well, crap.
You can't say a show is up at 8PM when the last totals were in the 300 hundreds.
Just who are they trying to fool?
First, The View on ABC.
Then, The Talk on CBS.
Followed by, the Five on Fox.
And now, much later, The Point on CNN.
JEEEEEZ.
C'mon CNN - this is embarassing.
CNN management is paid literally a combined salary of several million dollars a year just to turn out a poor copy of other shows.
Zucker, Entelis, Jautz: you screwed up big time.
It's not about ideology people. It i s the content, the product that is actually airing on CNN. This is simply not working. Try some fresh new faces like George Stroumboulopoulos, Aisha Tyler or Conor Knighton. IF you go with an ensemble cast they have to not be annoying or some across as bitter and angry. The Talk is popular because it is real and they know how to pick the right content. Nothing is different it is the same tired old formula of left and right hosts and not people who understand good TV. It amazing me how CNN always manages to find some of the worst talent on the planet. Heck even try TJ Holmes.
His show on BET was not all that bad. Smart news content gets viewers. Just look at what happened with Chris Hayes on Monday. TJ is someone who can bring CNN younger viewers and has the ability to news and musical artists interviews. Stop making viewers turn the channel. Also, what is up with all of the blonde females on CNN all of a sudden.
The Talk & The Cycle work because they both get it.
You have to be conversational and draw viewers into
the conversation. Opinion shows are ancient history.
Hello, the world has changed CNN. Can you say Face
Book and Twitter. How about a group of diverse lady
journalists at CNN. Keep in mind The Talk has Julie
Chen who has a news background so she knows how to guide the conversation and if you notice, the
items of discussion are presented as question to
viewers. Gee acknowledging viewers who you want
to stick around for an hour. Treat viewers like we
are right there in the studio with you.. CNN learn
conversational/communicative journalism. This
Point show reminds me of Starting Point and we
all know how that turned out. CNN has some real
chemistry issues. You have to have team chemistry
or else ensemble won't work.
CNN's lineup lacks continuity. They have yet to
figure out the lead in for 360 and the shows that
should follow 360. PMT and Out Front have to
be canceled.
I just read Ali Velshi is leaving CNN, like right now. I can't believe they are getting rid of him! They slap together a bunch of knuckleheads for The Point and they dump Velshi. This is madness!!
CNN thinks adding blonde females in the Fox bimbo reporter mode will bring big ratings. I do think Zucker is trying to turn CNN into a Fox clone. I don't care for Donnie Deutsch, he's another blowhard who's gets too much airtime as it is. He reminds me of Trump.
"He reminds me of Trump."
Good thinking on Donny Deustch because he happens to be one of Trump's good buddies, bless his soul.
But when push comes to shove, he's the best of a really bad lot on that panel.
They need people that are smart and dynamic and people viewers can relate to.
It matters not whether they are liberal liars or conservative liars.
If they are dynamic, and not mousey like Erin Burnett, than they will have impact.
This panel doesn't even have to be fair. They just have to get viewers talking about relevancy and yes, content matters.
I'm not a producer, I'm not a director, I'm not a copy editor, all I am is a plain ole news junkie.
It would seem to me, logically speaking, that when you revamp a network, you don't fire everyone at the same time.
Because then you have nothing and after looking at CNN's latest ratings on TVN, they are lower than low across the board.
Someone must tell Jeff Zucker that CNN is not NBC 45 years ago and you must create talent and some of the talent that you're letting go, was waiting patiently to be noticed by you, like Ali Velshi.
I don't like the man, but he made good business sense....that's where his talent lie, and now he's going to go to another network and they will RECOGNIZE IT...YOU IDIOT.
While it may be too early to tell, it seems if Chris Hayes on MSNBC, is beating Anderson Cooper in the first weeks of Hayes'new spot in the 8PM hour.
According to TVN, Mr. Cooper came in fourth after Nancy Grace in ratings and even though his show is the highest rated on CNN, it is still low on the totem pole, with an average viewing audience of about 500,000 or lower.
I am in total agreement with most of the negative comments concerning "The Point". I immediately emailed CNN how awful that show was. In the first few seconds I came across the program I thought I had accidentally selected FOX!
I suggest that perhaps CNN should substitute some programming from CNN International and actually provide some solid content. It is sad that the very best CNN is very hard to access in country. You have to travel abroad to see intelligent programming.
Using international content may not be a killer ratings attraction but what just might happen that CNN would regain its reputation as a news channel and not another entertainment venue. It may however attract an interesting demographic viewership that can in the long run improve CNN's bottom line.
@7:23PM: You make an excellent point. Why not try CNNi in time slots that are weak and see if this doesn't draw more of a response.
Of course the suits would have to give it time, but eventually something different that elevates intelligent conversation might actually catch on.
Why copy other shows. Variety is the spice of life, as they say and CNN has absolutely nothing to lose.
Huffpost's headline is "Missing the Point," in referebce to the panel, Get to the point, which probably wouldn't be returning, at least not with this inferior panel.
Why didn't Jeff Zucker study what talk panels work on other networks.
We all laugh at 'Fox and Friends,' and yes these three are not the sharpest pencils in the pack, but the show, good, bad or indifferent, works for their viewers.
Did Zucker spend any time analyzing why this show doesn't fail up against the morning competition, or did he just slap a panel together and tell them, "you're on?"
Anderson did better against Chris Hayes on Friday. He beat him in viewers and the demo. Who knows what will happen, but I've been seeing a lot of bad feedback about Chris Hayes, I like him and think he's smart, but I'm not sure he can carry a show (some people say he's too wonky and boring). I'll continue to watch AC360 until (if) AC leaves CNN.
