Talk-Show Host George Stroumboulopoulos Joins CNN with New Friday Night Program

Premiere of Weekly CNN Talk Show “Stroumboulopoulos” Airs Sunday, June 9th;
Series to Air Regularly Fridays at 11pmET Beginning June 14th

welcomes popular Canadian talk show host George Stroumboulopoulos to its Friday
lineup. “Stroumboulopoulos” will premiere on Sunday, June 9th at
10pm ET following the season finale of Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown.” On
June 14th the show will air in its regular timeslot; airing Fridays
at 11pm ET. First guests will be rapper Wiz Khalifa, actress Ellen Page and
Walking Dead comic book author Robert Kirkman.
The
new talk show will explore the worlds of art, pop culture, politics, tech news
and sports, through the eyes and the words of their most interesting figures.
George Stroumboulopoulos is praised for being a masterful interviewer, whose
intimate style keeps guests at ease and audiences intrigued.
“Stroumboulopoulos” is THE show to watch this summer.
“Stroumboulopoulos”
will begin its 10 week run and will bring viewers compelling interviews
with Keanu Reeves, Martin Short, Betty White, Bill Maher, Sharon Stone, as well
as author Eckhardt Tolle, and filmmaker Werner Herzog among others slated to appear
on the show.

The
show is scheduled to re-air Fridays at 2 and 5am ET and on Saturdays at 11pm,
2am and 5am ET. “Stroumboulopoulos” is produced by CNN and Embassy Row, and
will tape in front of a live studio audience in Los Angeles. Michael Davies and
Michael Sugar serve as executive producers, with Kay O’Connell and Amanda McPhillips as
co-executive producers.
Stroumboulopoulos
currently hosts George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, which airs nightly on CBC
television, and The Strombo Show, music and talk program which airs weekly on
CBC Radio2. Among his guests were Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Bradley
Cooper, Naomi Watts, Robert Pattinson, Bono, and Clint Eastwood.
Born
and raised in Ontario, Stroumboulopoulos graduated from Humber College in 1993
with a diploma in radio broadcasting. Stroumboulopoulos’ broadcasting
career included talk and music radio production, television presenting, and
hosting documentaries, and he has been honored eleven times by Canada’s
prestigious Gemini Award for his television work. He is also an outspoken
advocate for numerous Canadian and international philanthropic humanitarian
broadcasts, including Canada for Haiti and One Million Acts of Green, and he is
the first Canadian National Ambassador Against Hunger for the United Nations
World Food Programme.

Interesting, CNN originally said the show would be on in prime time. It might prove to be the lone bright spot for CNN in June. New Day is going to be a disaster. You have the have the right type of personalities in the morning. Chris Cuomo and Kate Bouldan don't seem to have morning show personalities.
Stroumboulopoulos should be on at 9 up against
TRMS. PMT might top Rachel Maddow during the
breaking news cycle but that is because he works
for CNN. I was pulling for Friday to be a night
when there is a Strombo/Maddow showdown. 11
PM on Friday is the wrong time.
Everybody knows that Strombo is the better show.
Can't wait to see Stroumboulopoulos. It should be airing on CNN at 9 PM. 360 and Stroumboulopoulos are a better fit. Maybe that is why CNN has the show on at 11 PM right after 360. The demo for 360 usually is much higher at 10 PM for CNN than 9 PM.
CNN has a promo airing for Stoumboulopoulos along with a brand new promo for New Day.
Wow. He has some big names on the show. Some of these are people who would usually not show up on CNN. It looks more n line with Letterman, Leno, soon to be Fallon and Meyers and kimmel. This is getting interesting.
Will the show still have the song Good In Everyone for the theme song ? Will the opening of the show be Mile A Minute, Debrief or something new ? I am wondering how much it will be like the show in Canada. ! week from today. I am ready and looking forward to the premiere. Go Strombo.
Guess sometime this week Anderson Cooper will introduce CNN viewers to George Strombo. Clever promo with the play on his last name. That's the point :
Strombo is suppose to bring the big names to CNN. He is news, entertainment and interviewer. Expect some surprise guests during 10 weeks.
What IS interesting is "who" got the talkshow, not who is on it.
Wonder how Anderson feels about Strombo having a "talker" on CNN?

All I see in this list of guests are celebrities.
Is CNN turning even more into Entertainment Tonight.
I want stories from Syria on my news network - not movie stars talking about the 'craft' or their latest diet or charity work.
CNN was bad enough with Larry King and Piers Morgan and the celebrity culture worshipping.
I just caught the promo for Stroumboulopoulos. I see the last clip is from the interview with Regis saying I've heard a lot about you George. This fall marks 10 years of Strombo being on CBC. People are making a mistake by just looking at the current 30 minute format. Go back and look at the 60 minute episodes on CBC. It's a very different show. To just call Stroumboulopoulos an entertainment show is a big mistake. It's a whole lot more and then some. The show runs the gambit.
Thanks for the heads up. I will be watching and plan to DVR the show. Once the show actually starts running on CNN, it will receive a very positive response. The show is already critically acclaimed. He will likely visit the Sit Room with Wolf Blitzer too but we all know that he will pop up on 360 since he will be following 360. Look for a heavy push all week.
Guys - Strombo may be the best host since sliced bread -- but it is still an entertainment show, produced by Sony Television (watch for heavy Soy tie-in's and endorsements) done in LA.
CNN is Cable NEWS Network.
It's not the E channel.
If this Strombo guy was going interview Bashir al-Assad, or Mohammed Morsi or Aung Saan Suu Kyi -- then he would fit on CNN.
But he clearly won't.
Get him off CNN and onto ABC or NBC to be the next Letterman or Leno. That's where he belongs.
Use the money to cover NEWS in Africa or Latin America instead.
No matter how good Strombo is, it's still celebrity crap.

How come Kathy Griffin appears on this non E channel every New Years and when were really lucky we see her face before then and in between??

on 360. Wasn't that Caherine Zeta Jones on recently or was I dreaming?
No, it IS the E Channel and the News Channel whenever the News Is Breaking Enough to be big time, like the tornadoes. Anyone say ratings?
Otherwise, it's whatever hits the wall and sticks.
