CNN is running a new ad that has Chris Cuomo asking President Obama if he takes any of the blame for the gridlock in DC and it has the president saying "ultimately, the buck stops with me". Typical CNN wanting to absolve the Republicans of any responsibility or blame whatsoever and have it look as if it's entirely President Obama's fault that nothing is getting done there. The fault lies SOLELY with Republicans and their irresponsible need to obstruct the President at every turn, but of course CNN doesn't want to leave viewers with THAT truth. They are the ones who refuse to compromise, not the president. That ad really made me angry.

I rarely agree with Donald Trump and I'm no fan of the Apprentice.
However I disagree with the Attorney General of NY and his view that Trump was using his brand to promote his "University."
No college or university is ever held accountable for their success rate, whether they are public or private. Why is Trump any different?
Possibly because he's the one with the deepest pocket and is highly visable.
In fact today, most graduates with honors degrees from regular schools are finding it difficult in job placement and are underemployed.
Charging Trump with "fraud" is easy, but finding him actually guilty is hard to prove, especially when you compare his seminars with other seminars that were given at other major universities.
So in all fairness, aren't there "other fish to fry?"

After sampling AJAM last week, I find it is so boring. It may have good content, but it's style is not for everyone. It's nice to have another channel to watch, but I definitely prefer CNN. I like showbiz stories and anchors that have personalities.

I think pairing Christiane Amanpour's 30 minute long CNN International program with Crossfire would do great. Have her on at 6:00PM, Crossfire on at 6:30PM, move The Lead with Jake Tapper to 7:00PM getting rid of the very boring Erin Burnett OutFront. Continue AC360º at 8:00PM. Get rid of Piers Morgan and bring back CNN Tonight and have it hosted by two anchors such as Don Lemon and Kate Bolduan. New Day should revert to two anchors. I think Chris Cuomo and Michaela Periera do a much better job together as seen when Kate was in London. I'm not enjoying Kate's loose side in the morning. I prefer her much serious side like she had on The Situation Room. At 10:00PM, have AC360ºplus (rather than "Later") and at 11:00PM, bring back NewsNight and have it hosted by Tom Foreman who I think is a perfect fit for such a program. As for The Situation Room, have it for two hours in the afternoon. Give John Berman a slot in the afternoon. Get rid of Legal View. And finally, expand Around The World to two hours.

Strombo won't be renewed.....

Anonymous said...

I'm not surprised Strombo wasn't renewed, it didn't really generate a lot of buzz and they weren't always showing it when they were scheduled to. Maybe with better scheduling and promotion it would've succeeded.

Save the CNN name. Replace CNN-US with CNN International.

Cable news is in trouble. CNN is in the biggest
trouble. AJA is not in as many homes, Very few
have access. It will be interesting to see if that
changes with Syria. Not being on TWC is going
to hurt AJA. TVN has some ratings and they are
low as expected. The funny thing is that TWC
carried Current and AJA got higher ratings. See
where AJA is in a year or 2. Many viewers don't
know about AJA. It takes time. I like America
Tonight and other shows. Current lasted for 8
years. CNN does not have to worry right now.

I would like to see New Day with just Kate and Michaela. Chris Cuomo is too much. Also I would like to see Erin Burnett have a co-host like perhaps John King. If CNN had a show with two co-hosts that would at least be different than the other channels.

Anonymous said...

I am not surprised that despite the "Exclusive interviews" that New Day is tanking. The entire dynamic for the show seemed off from the very first second it aired. It seems mismatched and although I respect Miss Bolduan as a journalist, CNN would be better off by having her do her own show and getting rid of Brooke Baldwin, who sadly has no business being on any network at all.

Today I watched Jessica Yelin sit in for that moron Erin Burnett.
Jessica had energy and passion and I really enjoyed listening to her and she actually didn't speak as though there were marbles in her mouth.
She and two other panelists were discussing my NJ fav, Chris Christie and his bullying tactics with the media. The panel felt that what works in NJ wouldn't work in the heartland of America.
OK. Here's a tip. I'm from NJ and Chris Christie's attitude would work wherever people hate those who have pensions. I call it "pension envy."
It doesn't matter what state Christie is from. There are enough people who hate others because they happened to plan for their future by putting aside "their OWN money, for their retirement, while others didn't.
So "Yeh duh bro" would work in the heartland, unfortunately.

Since the title of this is: Views on the news and Andy Cohen thinks he's news, I'll put this here.
Andy Cohen, who hosts Watch What Happens Live, had the great Oprah Winfrey on to promote her hit movie, "The Butler." It is very timely, coming right before the celebration of the march on Washington fifty years ago for civil rights.
Let's just say, Andy was thrilled.
His guest, Oprah, having watched her many times, was NOT...at least with him. She appeared polite but underwhelmed and then admitted that
her friend Gayle King, persuaded her to do Cohen's show. Possibly for demograhics, but "the pair" was totally out of sync, totally.
And I was embarrassed for her.
Next time Oprah don't listen to Gayle. Do "The Daily Show." At least Jon Stewart doesn't gush over any guest....and he's interviewed Presidents.

You can't make judgements on July & August. Traditionally, these are the months when viewers tune out, New Day is too tabloid oriented. When you are trying to catch a smart show like Morning Joe, you don't dumb down the news. For months now MJ has been adding news elements. More than New Day for sure.

Also, CNN keeps making blunder after blunder. Crossfire is now the face of politics on CNN, news content is lower, Keith Olbermann is now on ESPN2 at 11 PM an CNN decides to have a sports show only on Friday nights at 11 PM. CNN is not really catching up to MSNBC daily. It was a trial that attracted national interest and other breaking news that lifted CNN. Crossfire is the latest blunder. Jon Stewart is going to have a field day and CNN becomes more and more irrelevant. MSNBC counts on CNN's management to mess things up. CHeck the track record for CNN management.

According to TV by the Numbers, CNN had it's lowest month of the Jeff Zucker era and CNN is back in 3rd. It's also true that all 3 are taking hits. AJAM is too new to reach any conclusions. From what I have read, this is the 1st week of official ratings for AJAM. I'd be willing to bet that the lower numbers are made up of younger viewers. It's possible that AJAM's average age is under 40. It was that way with Current and the only reason why it lasted so long. Al Jazeera has deep pockets and is not heavily relying on ad dollars. Ratings don't matter that much for AJAM.

Anonymous said...

CNN,FNC & MSNBC will all have to deal with Al Jazeera America. While there is much celebration on the right following the ratings release by TVN. It's not the full picture. The average viewership age for Al Jazeera America is 55. That is lower than CNN, FNC & MSNBC. Not only that their viewers are better educated and wealthier, averaging 68 thousand. Demos make money for networks. The Chicago Tribune points out that is on par with Current. That's good news considering AJA is in some 20 million fewer homes. Lets see how fast they catch FBN. AJA can live with being the Bloomberg of cable news. Low ratings but desirable demos. Down the line it would not surprise me if AJA passes CNBC too. The
low ratings were expected.

AJAM can't be controlled like CNN by the right. Thank
goodness we finally have independent journalism. Great point about FBN. The network has been around for some 5 years and is still not always registering. It would be nice if someone would share the data for all of the networks when they first launched. AJAM is just 8 days old. You can't compare it to CNN,FOX or MSNBC,all have been around for more than a decade. Neither of these networks can match the money of AJAM.

Anonymous said...

Are you kidding ? American media is too lazy to do research. AJAM is just getting started at building an audience. Critics are missing the point. All AJAM has to do is to outperform Current. New Republic said it best. AJAM does not need ratings they have money. Variety says that America Tonight had 27,000 viewers on Monday. That's better than Current. Right now it is bogus to compare AJAM,CNN,MSNBC & FOX . Later on
AJAM will likely top FBN but we won't see the ratings because FOX won't let that happen.

I do not know why my post on Jessica Yelin did not appear here.
I had only praise for her and the way she is anchoring for Erin Burnett, who is still in the learning stage.
I believe I said that Jessica knew how to conduct an interview and didn't speak as though she had marbles in her mouth.
I also said that she had a discourse about NJ's Chris Christie and asked her panelists if he was too brash for the heartland should he run for the Presidency.
Their response was in the affirmative, although all agreed that part of the Governor's appeal, was in fact, his demeanor.

Thank goodness Bill De Blasio is holding strong with 40% during a recent polling for the NYC Mayoral race, and the residents of the 5 Boroughs of NYC finally came to their senses.
For a long minute it really looked as though that ugly Weiner would pull the wool over everyone's eyes and be forgiven for his crude opportunism, in the mayoral race.
While the rest of the country looks on, and thinks that this race does not effect them, please remember, no matter where you live in the US, NYC is the most important city in our country and maybe the world,....and if you don't agree just think back to 9/11
We can't take chances here or play games. The country needs someone strong and competent and stable.

At least AJAM's signature show America Tonight did not draw a 0.0 like Fox Sports LIve. That's right FS! just launched and it's not drawing too many viewers either. Remember this was suppose to be an ESPN killer. Yes FNC does work for FOX but the demos are an issue. Media writers should be honest about how FS1 & FBN are underperforming and both are in more homes than AJAM. Business Insider is the only website that had the dismal numbers for FS1. HuffPo said it best the ratings are understandable. You best believe that CNN,MSNBC & FNC take AJAM seriously.

The NYC Mayoral candidate who was head of the MTA, Joe Lhota, said he would have left the two kittens that were stuck in the third rail of the subway tracks, die, rather than stop the transit system.
Luckily this is not the Mayor's call and luckily Lhota will NEVER be mayor. The NYC MTA did stop the transit system yesterday, for two hours to rescue the two kittens.
Thank goodness we have animal loving people and societies dedicated to protecting them like the Humane Society and the Legal Defense League for Animal Rights, just to name two.
Lhota better drop out now because no one in his right mind wants this "greedy" SOB FOR MAYOR.
Yes, greedy is the correct word because he put his money where his mouth was in complete disregard for animal welfare. We can only hope that in his next life he'll come back as a kitten, lost on the subway tracks and the MTA boss will be his ugly identical twin.

Anonymous said...

@ 11:43 PM

What on earth do kittens have to do with CNN's management problems or ratings?

Anonymous said...

Does CNN's management problems have anything to do with Syria?
That's news, big time.

Anonymous said...

It does not surprise me one bit that Congress says, most of their constituents don't want to go to war with Syria.
So let's review the chain of command: the POTUS gives this problem to the Legislative Branch, which hasn't made a decision since the Bush Administration left town, and Congress sends the Syrian problem to its Constituents, who for the most part, vote going to war to save the Syrian rebels from further chemical attacks, down, (we have enough of our own problems.)
So now Obama can say, well Congress voted the measure down because of their Constituency.
How come Congress never asked the so called "constituency" what to do with the Wall Street bankers during the recession??
Because their Constituency would have put all those "low lifes" in jail, along with some members of Congress.
And this is how Democracy works, class.

Re: New Day: -- Kate Bolduan sounds like she has been busted for biting into a sandwich before speaking into her mike. Too garbled. Chris Cuomo has a silly smile plastered to his face regardless of topic. Replace.

Michaela Pereira? So far, she passes.
