Jim Sciutto Joins CNN

Jim Sciutto Joins CNN as Chief National Security Correspondent

 Jim Sciutto
Jim Sciutto has been named CNN’s chief national security correspondent, effective immediately. Further bolstering CNN’s newsgathering capabilities from the nation’s capital, Sciutto will report and provide analysis on all aspects of U.S. national security, including foreign policy, the military, terrorism, and the intelligence community. He will appear across the network’s programs and platforms. The announcement was made today by Sam Feist, Washington bureau chief and senior vice president.
“Jim’s vast experience reporting firsthand from around the globe will provide viewers with rich perspective on important stories domestically and abroad,” said Feist. “I am delighted to welcome him to our team.”
Sciutto was ABC News’ senior foreign correspondent, based in primarily in London and later, from Washington. In that role, he traveled to and reported from more than 50 countries in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. His extensive reporting included dozens of assignments from inside Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran. He is the author of a book based on his own experiences in the Middle East, “Against Us: The New Face of America’s Enemies in the Muslim World.”
Sciutto’s work in Iran during the 2009 election protests earned him an Edward R. Murrow award. He was also given the George Polk Award and a citation for Excellence from the Overseas Press Club for his undercover reporting from Myanmar, where he bucked government restrictions to tell the stories of that country’s repressive regime. His reporting for the series “Iraq: Where Things Stand” was recognized with an Emmy Award for two consecutive years.
Most recently, Sciutto served as chief of staff and senior advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to China, Gary Locke. Prior to ABC News, he served as the Hong Kong-based correspondent for Asia Business News. Sciutto began his career as the moderator and producer of a weekly public affairs talk show on PBS. He graduated from Yale University with a bachelor’s degree in Chinese history.

What a wonderful addition to your lineup. Hopefully Jim can help us understand the complex, social matrix that is the middle east.

CNN is making a big mistake by going with pundits and panels. Daily Beast has a fascinating article about AJA and why it will eventually gain popularity. The talking heads and pundits are getting old and never get things right. Yet they still have jobs on cable TV. CNN needs to up it's game on Syria. AJA is live more than the other 3. Crossfire and 360 Later are mistakes. That is exactly what people are sick of. CNN needs better shows. First and foremost starting delivering news. Right now ALA is only in about half the homes of CNN, MSNBC & FNC. Perhaps if is is in more homes it will make CNN up it's game .

Good hire for CNN. Jim did a some really good
journalism for ABC NEWS.

I agree with the outstanding journalism comment at ABC News. I enjoyed watching him play devil's advocate on many issues.

Wow. Jay Rosen tweeted that CNN is an entertainment channel. FNC is conservative, MSNBC is liberal and AJAM is news.

CNN needs to start doing more in depth reporting and fact based journalism. CNN has nothing but opinion and most of the time. A waste of time.AJ is real news. There is no doubt that CNN has dumbed down news. The greatest thing about AJ is no pundits. AJ is doing the best job covering Syria. Love Anderson Cooper but America Tonight is now my favorite news show. CNN has completely destroyed 360. We can only hope that AJ makes the news better on cable.

CNN hired a real journalist. Now that is breaking news.

Jay Rosen is exactly right.

CNN is in trouble. With a big story like Syria, CNN is finishing 3rd behind MSNBC according to TVN. how is that possible ? Unless viewers are not liking CNN.

I'm stunned at how badly 360 is covering Syria. Anderson was following the story while others ignored the news. 360 needs to have on people from Syria Deeply. There's a poll that says some 45 % of Americans don't know enough about Syria. Given the way CNN is covering Syria, no wonder people don't really understand the Syrian conflict. 360 needs to be smarter and informative. Not the place for pundits.

Game over, CNN is being damaged beyond repair.
I am thrilled that AJE is now available. So over CNN.
If we ever get to the point where we can pick the
channels we want, give me AJE, ESPN & Bloomberg
for the news channels I want. Word is BBC is also
making a push to be in America.

MSNBC is not exactly known for strong international news. This can't be good news for CNN. Maybe viewers are fed up with CNN. You would think the goal is to attract viewers but something CNN is doing has viewers turning away from CNN. Is it possible that Jeff Zucker is actually worst than Jon Klein ? Maybe it is not such a great idea to have an entertainment guy running CNN.
