Dan Lothian Leaving CNN

We're sad to report that a long time ATC favorite Dan Lothian is leaving CNN.  Lothian is a 10 year veteran of CNN and has been on the White House beat for the last 5 years. It's the second departure of a White House reporter from CNN in the past weeks.  Read about Jessica Yellin's exit in this previous post.

Expect more departures from CNN.. There is a
growing consensus that CNN is a sinking ship.

Jim Acosta needs to go. He is the worst WH correspondent CNN has ever had and we thought that Jessica Yellin was bad. Acosta makes CNN look bad and his reports are absurd and make no sense.

TVN has a post on CNN/Crossfire courtesy the Baltimore Sun. it talks about the reputation of CNN being debased by the management, which has elected to run Crossfire on CNN.

The best line is in the final sentence, the ratings for Crossfire stink. Jeff Zucker messed up CNN. To all of the reporters who decided leave, you made the best career decision. CNN is terrible. The suits are burying their heads in the sand again. CNN needs a new management team like now.

Dan Lothian was a fine reporter. CNN's losing their best and retaining awful, biased reporters like Drew Griffin. I look forward to the day HE leaves.

@ aries moon, I have to agree with you about Drew Griffin. He is one of the worst reporters at CNN. His reports are either one sided or incomplete or both. I either mute the TV or change the channel when he comes on.

I'm with you guys on Drew Griffin. CNN has yet another ethics issue with New Gingrich. His firm received RNC money. Cancel Crossfire CNN. RNC has found a way to control the news on CNN. Ted Turner always wanted the best and brightest at CNN The man would never do anything to make CNN look bad. What is happening to CNN is shameful. CNN does not have the best interest of the viewers in mind. If the low ratings are not sending a message to CNN management, what will ? CNN is a big waste of time. Turn the channel.

That's why I am pulling so hard for AJAM to be successful. Right now the network is the only fact-based, news gathering/reporting 24/7 news network. People don't know about AJAM. The network is flying under the radar. It's an uphill battle. CNN, FNC & MSNBC are in 2X the number of homes and AJAM is not available to 60 million viewers like Current was. Kudos to the network for being committed to the news. Let's hope they build a loyal viewership. Direct TV moved the channel away from the Current channel that was right between MSNBC & NFC. It's now in front of C-SPAN. That's odd for a news channel to be in an entirely different bloc of channels that are not news related. I think Time Warner, News Corp and Comcast had something to do with that. They offer other channels that are vital to cable/satellite. The lone cable news channel that is not ideological pundit driven ends up right in front of C-SPAN. The real news channel.

AJAM needs an aggressive advertising campaign on You Tube, Yahoo and others. Do the same on television and radio. AJAM needs to make some noise so that millions of potential viewers know there is now a real 24/7 news channel. Americans need fact-based news. Right now CNN,MSNBC & FNC should not be called news channels.

@ACAnderFan, I haven't cared for Griffen ever since he did a softball interview with Todd Palin a few years back and his coverage of ACORN was inexcusable. The majority of his reports are biased with a right wing slant.

Keep in mind that TW Cable is a separate company
from Time Warner. The NYT says TWC has reached
a distribution agreement with Al Jazeera. That means
AJ will by available in NY & LA by the end of the year.
NYT says this will get them to 54 million homes and
more in 2014. Next year in cable news is going to be
interesting.. TVN had a post on Soledad yesterday
and she was talking about this. First AJAM has to
take on HLN, CNBC & FBN before talking on CNN,
MSNBC & FOX. NYT says AJ has some 25,000
viewers at any given time. Being available in NYC
& Los Angeles can make a huge difference.

@aries moon, I agree most of Drew Griffin's reports are biased with a right wing slant. And then he always acts like he is so proud of his reports. I also think a good many of his reports seem incomplete like there should be more information than there is. Overall not a very good reporter. I much prefer Gary Tuchman.

TV by the Numbers has the Wednesday ratings for
CNN and the ratings are getting ugly for CNN. Not
only are reporters leaving but viewers too. Ouch.

It does look like the momentum has shifted back
to MSNBC even with breaking news. CNN is weaker
heading into 2014. From Halloween until New Years
viewers will drop off. CNN has problems all over the
place that needs to be fixed. Jeff Zucker has actually
amped up CNN problems by creating more. CNN
can't afford to keep losing viewers at the rate they
are going. The wider the distribution gets for Al
Jazeera America, the more trouble that is for CNN
and HLN. So many viewers are annoyed with CNN.

@ACAnderFan, you are right, Griffin always comes off as smug, snide and self-important. He has an odd reporting style, sort of unprofessional in a way.
