Is Piers Morgan Out?

FTVLive.com is reporting that Piers Morgan's contract is about to expire and he may be out at CNN.  While we've heard this before, and also rumors that he's being moved to a later slot or weekends, it shouldn't be long until we get the full story.
We received a ratings press release from CNN yesterday (sorry we didn't post it yet, the formatting was horrible and we can't get the coding to cooperate) and here's what it said about PML for the 3rd quarter:

Piers Morgan Live at 9p also saw increases vs. a year ago – growing +1% in total viewers (562k vs. 554k) and +7% in the demo rating (165k vs. 154k).  Both MSNBC and FXNC shed a substantial amount of viewers at 9p with The Rachel Maddow Show declining -37% in total viewers (759k vs. 1.196m) and -40% in the demo (220k vs. 365k) and Hannity was off -29% in total viewers and -35% among 25-54.

Here's the FTV post:

Sources tell FTVLive that CNN Boss Jeff Zucker is "actively looking for a replacement for Piers Morgan."
Morgan signed a one year extension to his contract and as time winds down, Zucker is looking for someone to takeover his time slot.
Word is that Zucker really wants Katie Couric in that slot. Couric should be available soon as many expect this is the last year her talk show "Katie" will be on the air.
But, CNN sources tell FTVLive that Zucker is not putting all his eggs in the Couric basket. "He's looking at other people besides Katie," says our source.
Zucker might have learned a lesson when he planned on putting Erin Burnett on CNN's new morning show. It blew up in his face, when Burnett balked at going to mornings.
Word is that CNN could offer Morgan another role at the network, most likely something outside of prime time and likely in the late night hours.
Morgan, his agent and CNN have been working on his new role or his exit strategy from the network.
One group that will likely be happy that CNN is pulling the plug on Morgan in prime time... the NRA.
Morgan has been very critical of the gun laws in the United States for years and has made it one of his main topics on his show.

And the link to the Washington Times.mention concerning Morgan.

I would love for CNN to bring back CNN Tonight (the program that briefly took place of Lou Dobbs Tonight when he abruptly left). Just a straight forward, smart news headline program with two hosts.

CNN needs to get rid of Erin Burnett as well.

OK...here's MY TRANSLATION for better or worse.
Jeff Zucker is pulling Pierce Morgan BECAUSE he is afraid of the NRA and is a "stupid fool."
The NRA is running and ruining this country's judicial system, case in point, the Trayvon Martin case, and everything Morgan has said and is saying about the NRA, is true. They have gotten completely out of hand, completely.
While I don't like Pierce, at least he STANDS FOR SOMETHING, unlike everyone else at CNN, including Zucker.

Zucker let "Erin Burnett call the shots?"
Who is she to tell her boss what she will do?
Contract or no contract, agent or no agent, good jobs are hard to find and good correspondents are even harder to find.
Fully agree with the other commenter. Let her go.

I'm not a huge fan of Piers, but I thought he was absolutely right about gun control and gun madness in the USA. He always has spoken up forcefully about it and that's the one thing I admire about him.

I agree that Burnett should be the one they lose, she is horrible.

First fire Piers then dump Burnett then promote Tapper to a later timeslot and CNN might have a chance to build a decent primetime.

@4:05PM: Absolutely right.
He's the only one who has the nerve to stand up and say what is truly wrong with this country...and unfortunately he's not taken seriously because he happens to be British.
