Your Views on the News 11/8/13

Seems from recent comments on random posts that people have a lot to say about CNN's abysmal ratings and the reasons for it.  Here's your chance to discuss that or anything else news/CNN related.  Play nice.

I don't normally criticize President Obama, especially on his Affordable Care Act, known to many of us as Obamacare.
However he has come up short with his apology.
For the last two weeks the President let Kathleen Sebelius take all the heat for the websites
poor rollout. What took him so long and why was she made the scape goat??
Yes, she is the head of Health and Human Services, but the POTUS knew way in advance that the website had flaws, so HE should have been prepared and come forward.
It was HIS health plan, not hers and it is HIS legacy that stands to lose or gain from its success, or its failure, and today's apology was too little too late.

Yesterday I posted something about NJ being misrepresented as a RED state by CNN and for some reason it was not posted.
I do not know why because it was presented as bright red, and after living in NJ for forty years, I think I know a little more about the way NJ thinks than some of the pundits or so called experts, like John King, think when they vote.
Chris Christie won big because he went towards the middle to get funding for the Jersey Shore and took advantage of a photo op with Obama. He also shows leadership skills which is sorely lacking inn both parties, including the Tea Party which is laughable.
The GOP better stop catering to "Rand Paul's" of their party and look towards the Chris Christie's if they plan to win anymore seats.
The ELECTORATE, which the Tea Party does NOT SPEAK FOR, has spoken. They want someone that can get things done for the good of the majority and NOT the party.
And NJ is not a red state, CNN.
It is still BLUE, and Tea Party candidates are not welcome.

ICN has an interesting item on CNN. Last night will watching the NBA there was some advertising for some future HLN shows. The show is called Cook Your _______ Off on Upgrade HLN. It premieres December 1st. I think most of the changes will be made at HLN as CNN pushes for 2 different networks. Sort of like the discovery model.CNN has already been running special programs on Thursday at 9 PM. I could see CNN using more tape on weekends. CNN is looking to have diverse shows like Discovery. When you look at the demos this past weekend you know why CNN wants more shows like this. CNN is doing a lousy job at creating content. So you go to people who can. I think it applies more to HLN.

Sorry that is UPWAVE HLN. In October Hollywood Deadline said this was coming, announcing that HLN would be bringing lifestyle shows to it's weekend programming. The other 2 are teh TIm Ferriss Experiment and The Dose with Dr Billy Goldberg. It sounds more like docs on CNN with HLN becoming a lifestyle network with some news. It's the latest trick in TV with companies like Time Warner will look for extra ways to make money by selling CNN and HLN as 2 different networks rather than 1 like they currently do. Sort of what News Corp just did by launching a new sports network.

Thrilled to see Kyra Phillips filling in for Brooke Baldwin today! When I heard her HLN show got cancelled, I was hoping she would return to CNN. Hopefully she will permanently.

I could see CNN going with 360 at 8 PM and docs from 9-11 PM on Thursday and Friday nights. Weekends , no surprise. It would be a safe bet that PMT is going to be canceled. Eventually, Bill Weir could replace Crossfire. The problems start at 4 PM with The Lead. There is nothing for CNN to build on to at least remain ahead of All In. New Day and dayside CNN is not faring well either.

TVN has more about Los Angeles. This tells me that CNN will be making investments in the entertainment side of the equation. All of a sudden they are investing in CNN. Wonder how much AJAM has to do with that. Just last week the network announced a major news expansion. That includes adding bureaus in the U.S., hiring more staff and creating more original programming. AJAM says they will launch a brand new morning show, a weekly sports program, a culture show along with multiple documentary series.

Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin will return to host New Years Eve Live on CNN. I for one am looking forward to it. I find them to be funny together.

I'm disgusted with Anderson Cooper, AC360/Later and their anti-Obama panels/correspondents and right wing slant. Liberal views are scarce but Obama bashing is rampant. Candy Crowley, John King, Gloria Borger and Anderson Cooper were united in their criticism of President Obama and the Affordable Care Act with no one to counter them last night. There's a reason the ratings have tanked on these shows, the reporting is no longer fair or balanced or even accurate for that matter. Now the AC360 team has their knives out just waiting and hoping that President Obama can't make the Nov 30 deadline to fix ACA, knowing FULL WELL that a huge undertaking like that is unpredictable and takes time to examine and analyze, yes, even AFTER the rollout, to know exactly how things are going to play out. But you don't get that kind of nuance on AC360/CNN or the awful Chuck Todd on NBC.

Ironically, AJAM will end up playing a vital role
in American journalism.CNN is terrible. They
lost me to AJAM. There is no way I am watching
CNN again no matter what they do. I am one of
those CNN boycott bandwagon members.

The ratings woes continue for CNN. The ratings are in for Thursday and it's clear that docs won't save CNN either. CNN is a badly damaged brand. Game over.

Bll Maher welcomed Anthony Weiner to his panel, and actually spoke about the NYC Mayoral race, which Weiner lost in the primary.
He appeared uncomfortable when Bill brought this subject up, but Weiner does seem to know a bit more about the Affordable Care Act than most Republicans.
It is a shame that Weiner's "behavior" over shadowed the good he could have done for the voters in NYC.
I was reminded of Eliot Spitzer who is still suffering for his misdeeds and he too, could out smart any Republican on any subject.....but then that's not saying much.

Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper have one thing in common, other than their New Year's Eve hosting,
they were BOTH canceled talk show hosts. She on Bravo and he on Fox. Maybe they can talk about that on New Years because neither one is funny, and come to think of it, that's why they were canceled.

@Phebe: I always love to read the comments on "Your Views on the News."
And I always "play nice," which is more than I can say for Rand Paul or is it Paul Rand?

Isn't that rich, CNN criticizing CBS for it's Benghazi reporting. CNN is the last one to be criticizing any other network given the problems with CNN's botched reporting on everything. TEA NN always take the tea party and right media talking points and uses them to make bogus reporting claims.

Anonymous said...

Yes, CNN took delight in CBS's botched reporting, because it makes them feel better....just like a person who never gets things right takes delight in seeing others suffering.
CBS will rebound and 60 Minutes will continue doing first rate reporting, and CNN will just keep on sliding down hill: CNN the most trusted name in Faux News.

It's a little rich to see CNN delighting in the screw up at CBS when CNN had their own erroneous Benjamin coverage. AT least CBS owned their mistake.

Benghazi. I meant benghazi. Darn phone autocorrect.

There is a rumor that AJA is looking to set up a bureau in Atlanta. That's right on CNN's turf. AJA is taking aim at CNN for sure. It's clear that AJA is experimenting to if they can catch HLN or CNN. Honestly, not 1 network has come close to AJA when it comes to the Philippines typhoon. CNN' coverage is lacking and not as in depth. In the future, AJA just might revive journalism. I was hoping they would make CNN better. I too am annoyed with 360 and stopped watching the show lately. 360 was once my fav. I do watch Parts Unknown. For me the CNN brand is tarnished. It's hard to take CNN seriously. CNN never had to deal with an AJA. 2014 is fast approaching. AJA is serious about the news. They see a wide open field that others chose to ignore. CNN had better be ready. CNN loses the resources battle.

In the docudrama on National Geographic, which was in fact, awful, MHO, it was exactly as Jim Lehrer recollected, the informality of it all, open limos are now a thing of the past.
BUT, the FBI was tailing Oswald for a while and then dropped the ball, according to 'Killing Kennedy.' Something like what is happening with our 'watchful eye' on pre-determined terrorists of today.
History repeating itself in a different format.

Those ratings for CNN are getting dangerously low. Nothing looks good for CNN when you look at the ratings across the board. Does this mean that CNN can't sink any lower or there is no place to go but up.
CNN is going into 2014 in a very weak position. This could get very ugly for CNN. By abandoning news CNN might be giving AJA an easy opening. Not a smart move at all. Management forgot about the rich history of CNN. News should matter for CNN.

CNN should look towards this 3 for content and shows : Vice, Vanguard and Vimeo. Out Nixon and Pandora's Promise didn't do too well for CNN. Parts
Unknown works because of Anthony Bourdain. He makes things interesting. Also, see if CNN can lure Take Part LIve from Pivot and Aisha Tyler from The Talk along with Mo Rocca and Conor Knighton from
CBS. I have no problem with diverse shows. Heck also hire Bret Erlich for a political satire show. The Daily Show and Colbert are modern versions of Laugh In.

Just watched a large portion of a
JFK Memorial taping.
CNN really has trouble keeping things straight.
In the left hand corner of the screen was CNN.com JFK Live....I kid you not.
If JFK was alive, what the heck are we watching????
Yes, maybe he's even taking questions.
