Come Monday Ali Velshi will be going up against Erin Burnett for a full hour . I was setting my recordings for next week and noticed that Real Money is scheduled to be on until 8. America Tonight is my DVR cable news show. Let's see if the ratings for AJAM will go up. Campbell Brown got cancel right after Countdown moved to Current and topped her show in the demo. Don't know if history will repeat with Real Money but keep an eye on this.

I never thought I would say this, but I prefer Piers Morgan to Bill Weir any day. Bill Weir will never get good ratings.

CNN does seem to be falling back to 3RD. Lucky for them they have Anthony Bourdain. Parts Unknown has the best demo ratio percentage in all of cable news.

CNN's decision to be more like Discovery might
actually end up working. Ironically, Parts Unknown
and Inside Man were not Jeff Zucker's ideas. Only
Parts Unknown, 360 and Inside Man are working
for CNN. New Republic has a fascinating article
on Anthony Bourdain. HLN trying to become the
channel of millennials won't work because there
is a channel called PIVOT.In the last year so many
new channels have launched. FS1, AJAM, PIVOT,
FUSION, REVOLT, EL REY, ESQ. The cable universe
is growing and growing. Indie cable will be the
next big thing. There are millions of viewers who
could care less about ratings, Access to good
programming is what everyone wants. Morrow
was right about the news biz and money. News
should not be about ratings.

Keep in mind a very interesting thing just went
down with DIRECTV and WEATHER. DIRECTV
insisted the network reduce reality programming.
Now they offer Weather Nation too. In the future,
satellite/cable companies with have to offer
cheaper alternatives. Costs lack of choices is
what leads to cord cutting. Most people I know
have FIOS , NETLIX & HULU. We love FIOS for the
blazing internet speed and all of the channels
they offer.

Interesting, starting Monday it 's Ali Velshi vs Erin
Burnett for a full hour. About 5 years ago Current brought Countdown to the channel. It lead to Campbell Brown being canceled. I wonder if AJAM is looking to pull this off by finding a weak link in the CNN lineup. Maybe they just figure they can top FBN in prime time. That can lead to more distribution. RIght now CNN is in 2X the number of homes. Keep and eye on this. It's not like the 7 PM hour in cable news is all that good. Before the missing jet, Out Front was not getting good ratings.

Bill Weir actually topped TRMS in the demo on
Thursday. He also had the top demo for CNN.
He's alright. He did anchor for Nightline.

AJAM is wrong to cut back The Stream and bounce sports. They have The Steam on at the wrong time. Social media is used mostly from the hours of 2-5 PM. Also, more people care about sports than politics. CCTV even has a stand alone sports show. Why are they trying to be like CNN ? Ali Velshi is no Adam Johnson at Bloomberg. Lunch Money is on at 7 PM.

The Stream can't be just another panel show. It should be all about news in social media and digital news websites like Mashable, Gizmodo and others. I have to agree about AJAM and scheduling You don't
put Borderland on Sunday at 9 . You put it on at 10. Make The Stream an hour, cover multiple topics with the people tied to those stories. I could see it going up against Cycle. TV By The Numbers has been writing about the dip in ratings for the show. RFD is definitely a bad idea. How did a show like The Steam miss the 12 yr old in Romania using social media to save stray dogs or the Twitter campaign for the teen with cancer who wanted to meet Lebron James. The are dozens of real news stories on social media. Old media just does not how to properly use social media for news. Hint : it's about people not panels.
