How did it get to be Monday already?!

Ever have one of those days where you quite literally forget what day it is? Heh. Luckily for me, the good folk at CNN's PR department were doing their jobs today, and because of that, I do at least have something to post for you!

CNN Strengthens Middle East Coverage with Cal Perry
Appointment to Beirut

CNNI Provides Additional Resources for Inside Middle East
Market Place Middle East Programs

Cal Perry, CNN’s award-winning Baghdad bureau chief and producer, has been appointed as the network’s new international correspondent based in Beirut, Lebanon, it was announced today by Parisa Khosravi, senior vice president of international newsgathering for CNN Worldwide.

Perry, who has been instrumental in coordinating and guiding CNN’s unrivaled coverage of Iraq over the past four years, takes up his new position in April. In this new role, he will cover Lebanon and also support CNN’s growing presence across the Middle East with editorial operations in Abu Dhabi, Amman, Baghdad, Cairo, Dubai and Jerusalem.

As Baghdad bureau chief, Perry oversaw a staff of more than two dozen journalists and also reported breaking news and produced long-form programming including CNN Presents: Combat Hospital, which won a CINE award in 2007.

“Cal’s expertise of the region is an invaluable asset for us, and I’m delighted that he is taking up a new role in Beirut,” Khosravi said. “As we continue to strengthen our presence in the Middle East and in other parts of the world through our content ownership strategy adding additional correspondents and resources, having ‘can do’ reporters of his caliber are essential.”

In addition to this appointment, CNN International is also boosting its feature programming in the region with additional resources for Inside The Middle East and the acclaimed and recently launched Market Place Middle East. In addition to tapping into CNN’s planned production center in Abu Dhabi that was announced in January, both programs will have exclusive access to international correspondent Brent Sadler and his considerable knowledge and experience of the region.

This new role for Sadler underscores the importance and commitment to the region by CNN and will allow both programs to plan more in-depth and expanded coverage.

Florida A&M Hosts First Stop on CNN’s Black in America Tour April 8
Black in America, CNN’s On-Air and Online Initiative, Visits Six Historically Black Colleges and Universities
CNN Worldwide’s marketing department announced the launch of a multi-city tour of six historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in conjunction with the network’s Black in America multiplatform programming initiative. Florida A&M University (FAMU) will host the first Black in America campus stop on Tuesday, April 8, on the front lawn of FAMU’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communication from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (ET).

CNN has also launched a Campus iReporter contest in association with the Black in America tour at each of the six HBCU schools. CNN, together with the National Association of Black Journalists, will choose one Campus iReporter from FAMU, whose prize will be a digital video camera. The winner from each school will also be able to submit additional footage from their Black in America campus stop to win the grand prize: a trip for two to the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans over the Fourth of July weekend.

Viewers and users are encouraged to share their firsthand accounts of the black experience through video, photo, audio or text submissions at www.iReport.com, CNN’s recently launched user-generated community Web site. Contributors to iReport.com also may gain recognition by having the material they submit to the site – once vetted and approved for use – appear on a CNN network or CNN.com.

“The response from the students and the schools has been extraordinary, and their participation is an important part of this story,” said Scot Safon, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of CNN Worldwide. “Black in America is a worldwide CNN multi-platform event about issues that directly impact the future of all Americans.”

The HBCU tour will include a trailer outfitted with a jumbo television screen, along with video kiosks, where participants can submit their video response to a programming-related question via iReport. There will be live DJs, text-message polling, a graffiti wall and electronic polling stations using questions from a CNN/Essence Magazine/Opinion Research Corporation poll. Exclusive video previews from upcoming Black in America programming will also be featured. CNN, Essence Communications and Comcast will all have representatives and giveaways on site.

CNN.com’s special section for the HBCU tour is available at www.CNN.com/blackinamerica/hbcu. It includes rules of participation for the Campus iReporter contest, and it will also feature images from each school.

Forty years after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., CNN launched a sweeping on-air and digital initiative, Black in America. CNN continues its commitment to groundbreaking documentaries and reporting for Black in America, which examines in-depth the often under-reported stories of the African-American experience. This landmark program features six hours of documentaries, a weekly series of reports on CNN/U.S. and CNN International and a multimedia online effort. CNN to Air Live Broadcast of Presidential Candidates Forum on Faith Issues

CNN’s Campbell Brown to Co-Moderate with Newsweek’s Jon Meacham April 13 ‘Compassion Forum’

CNN will serve as the exclusive broadcaster of a presidential candidate forum on faith, values and other current issues at Messiah College near Harrisburg, Penn., on Sunday, April 13, at 8 p.m. (ET) CNN Election Center anchor Campbell Brown and Newsweek editor and Newsweek.com election anchor Jon Meacham will moderate what is being billed as The Compassion Forum, which will take place nine days before the Pennsylvania primary.

Organized and sponsored by Faith in Public Life, the 90-minute forum will consist of wide-ranging and probing discussions of policies related to pressing moral issues that are bridging ideological divides now more than ever, including poverty, global AIDS, climate change and human rights. It will feature Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama on the same stage to talk about these topics as each candidate sits down individually with the moderators. The program will also stream live at www.CNN.com.

Leading up to The Compassion Forum, chief national correspondent John King will anchor live special coverage beginning at 10 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, April 12, and then again on Sunday, April 13, immediately following the forum. Special coverage on Sunday will feature analysis from commentators across the faith and ideological spectrum. King will be stationed at CNN’s Pennsylvania “mini-bureau,” the CNN Election Express bus, which has allowed the network to maintain a full-time presence in these weeks leading up to the April 22 primary. “Ballot Bowl” will also originate live from Pennsylvania and air throughout the weekend, bringing the candidates’ significant events directly to viewers in long-form, not soundbites.

Sorry for the slacker post today... I promise to be back in the game next week!

Also, those of us who do not get International are missing Michael Ware's second special today, despite this one being of vital importance to Americans. Okay, I admit I'm bitter... and segments from the special will probably be airing on Domestic throughout the next couple of days. Plus, I'm getting it delivered to my computer as I type this, thanks to a friend in Paris. Still. I'm just sayin'.

Wow it seems like Team CNN will be very
busy for some time to come. There has been
a commercial running on CNN about the
League Of First Time Voters. I has captured
my curiosity as to what this is all about.
But now I think this might be tied to this
promo since there are millions of college
students who could not vote las Prez
Election.

CNN finally found something for Campbell Brown to do: Moderate a compassion forum. What about compassion for the viewer? I for one will vote with my remote and not watch this show. It isn't live and it doesn't sound promising. Hopefully, others will follow and show CNN we really don't care for Campbell's talents.
