CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield has an Olympian Dad, “Marvelous Mal” Whitfield, who won 5 medals (3 gold, 1 silver and bronze) in the 1948 and 1952 Olympic Games. The current Olympics are the 60th anniversary of his first medal win. Fredricka and her Dad are traveling to Beijing for the final week of Olympic events and to commemorate his Olympic success. Most of the living American Olympians of the 1948 games will be also be there to witness history in the making and reunite with former team mates in Beijing.
Watch for a report from Fredricka that will air over this weekend (August 16-17) . Fredricka will profile “Olympians of Yesteryear” as well as some of the hardships former Olympians endured. ~ Phebe
