Not ratings as normal this week. A major holiday plus special programming plus a major news story breaking out right before the holiday has left the ratings anything but normal.

The averages of the Adults 25 - 54 demographic for the week for regular programming left MSNBC on top during the 8PM and 9PM hours. Since MSNBC listed special programming during these time slots on Thursdaya and Friday- this average only includes 3 days compared to CNN's 4 day average and a 5 day average for both Headline News and FOX. MSNBC ends up in 3rd place this week during the 10PM hour.

CNN's average for the week puts them in third place during the 8PM hour and second place during the 9PM hour. During the 10PM hour, CNN came in first place but this was with a three day average of regular programming and a substitute anchor all three nights.

One other note about CNN, they had the highest demographic rating during the 8PM hour on Friday night with Campbell Brown's No Bias, No Bull . Headline News had the second highest demographic during that same time period with MSNBC and FOX following behind in that order.

FOX had to settle for the second highest demographic average during the 8PM and 10PM hours and third place during the 9PM hour.

CNN aired its Heroes All-Star Tribute on Thursday (Thanksgiving) night from 9PM - 11PM ET. Comparing this time block to the other three networks, CNN had the second highest Adults 25 - 54 demographic and the most total viewers.

Blitzer, The Situation Room Claim Top Spot in Critical Time Slot for November

Throughout November, CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer led The Situation Room to become the highest-rated broadcast in its entire three-hour time slot among cable news competition in the 25-54 demographic. According to Nielsen data, more viewers in the key demo turned to Blitzer and The Situation Room at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. (ET) than to any cable news program on Fox News or MSNBC during those hours. Viewers who turned into The Situation Room had a front row seat to a variety of coverage, from the presidential election to breaking news.

“The idea that we can be No. 1 in cable news producing the kind of journalism we produce day in and day out is unbelievably rewarding,” said Sam Feist, CNN’s political director. “It means that the American public has chosen The Situation Room to learn about what's happening in their world, on the campaign trail, and in Washington.”

At 4 p.m., The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer averaged 402,000 demo viewers, 20 percent ahead of Fox News’ Your World average of 336,000 and 91 percent more than MSNBC Live’s 210,000. At 5 p.m., The Situation Room averaged 418,000 demo viewers, a 24 percent advantage over the 338,000 for Fox News’ Election Headquarters and 32 percent ahead of the 317,000 for MSNBC’s Hardball. At 6 p.m., The Situation Room averaged 508,000 demo viewers, 4 percent ahead of the 487,000 for Fox News’ Special Report with Brit Hume and 67 percent ahead of the 305,000 for MSNBC’s Race to the White House.

The Situation Room airs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (ET). Eric Sherling is the program’s executive producer.
