This is the first full week of 2009 ratings and there was no special programming to exclude so all the averages this week are based on five nights of programming.
This week at 8PM, HLN comes out on top in the Adults 25 - 54 ratings demographic. FOX actually had the highest demo three out of the five nights, but when the week was averaged HLN just came out ahead.
FOX gets the week at 9PM, but they shared the top spot this week with CNN on Tuesday night and MSNBC on Thursday and Friday.
During the 10PM hour, CNN was the clear leader having the highest demographic four out of five nights.
When I first started looking at the ratings FOX would frequently have the top demographic rating during any of the prime time hours. Now, FOX still has more prime time wins, but it is not by much: FOX won 6 hours of prime time this week; CNN 5 hours; MSNBC: 2; HLN: 2.

CNN is sinking in the 7,8 & 9pm hours.
Also look for The Situation Room to take
the next hit. I know people who are now
turning to MSNBC at 3 and leaving it on
the channel. There is an anger at CNN for
focusing on petty things like Blago, Palin
and Joe the plumber. Eventually CNN will
be in such a hole because they failed to
realize they messed up. Also they need
to have John Roberts and Kyra Phillips
anchoring the morning show. Please
do something about Lou Dobbs, Campbell
Brown and Rick Sanchez. They are just
down right annoying. Since Obama wil
be the first 2.0 president maybe it is
time for CNN to do a newscast made up
of viewer submitted stories and bring more
internet elements to the network. The move
to opinion journalism was a mistake for CNN.
CNN seems to have forgotten about it's viewers.
Erica Hill, TJ Holmes, Alina Cho, and Zain Verje
would be great hosting a viewer submitted news
program for 2 hours from 7-9pm, I mean real
news items from news papers and the web and
stories you may not have heard from the day
and cool stuff. Hey even throw in Jack Gray from
the 360 blog in the mix for fun. Have viewers
vote through out the day keep a running tally
and the top stories that make the CNN charts
for the mega news mix. Heck even have people
vote for the top viral videos of the day
submitted by viewers as well. And give a shout
out to the viewers who make the cut.
I couldn't agree more with your comment, Anonymous.
Lou Dobbs is very annoying... Larry King is nice, but the guy is getting old!
And as I said, JACK CAFFERTY MUST HAVE HIS OWN SHOW!!
No rating for Steve MacIntyre?
Lets hope CNN is working on new programs to
replace the shows that a falling like a brick.
From American to Larry King, every thing needs
to revamp. Except TSR and AC 360 CNN needs
to bring shows to the network that bring in
viewers not send them away. They have got
to get away from the single anchor format during
the day. If you go with 2 or more people. The
viewers are likely to like one of the anchors.
I agree with viewers as news contributors the
stories are likely to be a wide range of topics
and it keeps you engaged with the public.
CNN is just not practicing good journalism these days.
They have been going overboard with Tim Geithner.
Yes he made a bonehead move with regards to
payroll taxes. To cover the story as though he
did not pay federal taxes is not being honest.
This morning they are still focusing on George
Bush and how bad things are for Obama with
TARP and Geithner. CNN get away from talk
radio and the political blogs there is a whole
big world with stories that people care about.
How about watching CNN.om, Google most
popular, Yahoo, AOL, Digg, Reddit and others
to find out what Americans are reading about.
And this comes from a CNN fan.
American Idol is back so everyone will take a hit.
The question is who will get hit the hardest. I
wonder how Maddow will do at 9pm with American
Idol in the mix.I think it is really going to hurt No
Bias. I agree with you Rodrigo. Jack should replace
Larry King when he retires. CNN has to give him a
graceful exit.
CNN had better move TJ Holmes to prime time.
MSNBC has hired Carlos Watson and others.
Something is up. I have talked with a lot of
people who are upset with what CNN did to
Don Lemon. They find bringing in DL Hughley
and demoting Don Lemon who is an actual
journalist is an insult and they will not watch
CNN because of it.
I still can't believe that CNN thought that Rick Sanchez was a better anchor than Don Lemon. 3PM has become a complete disaster!
Lemon is a much better interviewer and anchor.
I totally agree with the comments. To me CNN is NO longer the most trusted name in news, the ratings are a clear indication of that. Are the "powers that be" not looking at the ratings picture or reading the various blogs? Without the likes of Wolf Blitzer, John King, Anderson Cooper we would be giving the benediction on the network. Thank God for Cafferty and Jennie Moos and an excellent correspondent in Suzanne Malveaux - Situation Room is just tight. I concur with an earlier suggestion to give Cafferty Larry King's job. I would also suggest giving Cafferty Lou Dobbs' spot.
I grew up watching CNN but now, its really hard to switch there. Someone please, please, rescue John Roberts - give him a new anchor! As the other comments stated, Campbell is annoying I would not waste my time and exercise my finger muscle to switch to her show. Sanchez has my brain scrambled from him switching without transition - to news story to screaming about a line from twitter, and Tony Harris, let's not even go there! But how does Harris be on during the week and they have TJ Holmes and Don Lemon banished to the weekend albeit Lemon to a time slot when everyone is probably going out or watching a good movie? Don Lemon needs Tony Harris' spot and TJ Holmes just needs to be put in prime time on his own show.
