AC360 is a Hit on Twitter

Peter Kafta of the Wall Street Journal's Digtal Network took a look at what programs are most popular on Twitter and what fizzle, according to Twitter/TV tracker Social Guide. He wrote:

"Twitter loves TV. And TV loves Twitter. But the relationship between the two, which Twitter has been actively trying to promote in the last nine months or so, is a funky one: Sometimes Twitter gets excited about TV shows that lots of people don’t care about. And sometimes TV’s most popular shows aren’t nearly as popular on the social messaging service."

What caught our eye was where AC360 landed on the top 100 Twitter TV program. Here's Peter's chart (click to enlarge).

AC360 was the only news show to crack the top 40. To read Peter's full article follow the link.

I think that is because a lot of people like Anderson, but don't watch the news everyday because it is depressing.

CNN needs to realize how many viewers learn
about shows on social media. I attribute those
360 ratings to Twitter & Facebook. One criticism
I have is that if Anderson can't tweet or be on
Facebbok , why is not some on the 360 staff
fostering viewers. There are millions of potential
viewers.I am really hoping they will start streaming
360 live on the web and via mobile devices. I know
they like to push the DVR at 360 but it could be so
much bigger. Still waiting for full episodes after
they air on CNN. Millions watch tv shows online
at work and outside of their homes Just the other
day there was a study out that shows that
young minorities are watching news/tv on various
media platforms. What if 360 could reach 100
million people on various platforms. If you
build it viewers will come. I have a feeling
those demos are younger viewers coming to
CNN for 360.CNN should strive to make 360
more accessible on various platforms. Your
viewers habits are not just inside the home
anymore.

Let us hope that all those who twitter twitter over to Anderson in the afternoon.
Do all those who twitter actually watch 360 or just twitter about it?
Jon Stewart does NOT and WILL NOT twitter and his ratings are high, very high, without twitter.

Most of the tweets aren't even on message. So what does that mean if it doesn't translate into ratings??
DWTS has millions of fans who DON'T TWEET.
The only meaning it has is that college kids and people with the mentality of Weiner tweet.
And oh yes, some people tweet to promote their show.

I like that Anderson has decided to tweet more and communicate directly with his viewers.

Those "younger viewers" tweeting are not coming to 360 for news.
They actually are delusional enough to think that AC is speaking to them, when in fact he is marketing himself.
Case in point, the last comment.
"He is tweeting to his viewers."
No, he is marketing his show.
Isn't this a reflection on what tweeting has become?
Using this device for fangirls and congressmen who are delusional.
It sure feeds into the same mentality and its dangerous.
Sorry, but true.

@3:14AM: If you think Anderson is "communicating directly with his viewers," YOU have a problem.

I recognize that there are people on this site and ATA who have a problem with how some of Anderson's viewers react to him and the show and those who are not in lock step agreement with them that he should be DEAD SERIOUS AT ALL TIMES with no humor or interaction with his audience are labeled shallow "fangirls" with no real interest in the news (something that is insulting AND untrue) but to claim that his tweets aren't directed at his audience is rather bizarre. WHO exactly is he responding to when he's answering questions that are tweeted to him? And no, I do not have a "problem" because I don't share your opinion about this 7:35 pm.

7:33, you actually believe that everyone who tweets Anderson is a delusional/dangerous fangirl? That is a ridiculous assumption. His viewers are not confined to the people you have wrongly determined to be only interested in something superficial. He has viewers from all walks of life who are engaged and interested in the subjects that are presented on the show and they tweet him about those topics and also offer suggestions for stories. Sorry that it doesn't fit your negative notion of a typical 360 viewer, but it's true.

Twitter,You Tube & Facebook is how the world
knows about news events like Iran, Egypt, Yemen,
Syria, etc. Recently on You Tube, Syrians posted
a thank you Anderson Cooper message. Anderson
is smart to use Twitter, Facebook & You Tube.
This message was displayed in a protest march.
We are fans of the news and admire the journalism
of Anderson Cooper. When we come across news
and want to contact Anderson,it makes it easy
because he is a journalist that we trust. It is very
essential for journalists to have a presence on
multiple media platforms. It is bigger than tv.
By the way who do you think owns most of the
DVR's in this country. 18-49 yr olds who those
ad guys care about the most. Yes it is marketing
and those of us in the new media age know
this better than anyone. Thank you Anderson
Cooper & Team 360. We viewers appreciate
having a conversation with you all .

@8:50AM: You seem to have good judgement about how to use social media, and its purpose.
You seem to know that it is global and not personal.
Unfortunately this is not the case for everyone who uses social media and that includes twitter.
Those that have this need to "personalize eveything" are really fooling themselves into thinking some people are actually ineracting with them and that's when it gets totally out of hand.
It is unfortunate but true from some of the comments here.
Twitter is an advertisement, a tool to market ones self, and nothing more, even if you're not famous.
But in the inability to differenciate between what is real and what isn't, is what makes "twitter" and those that do it, scary.

Experian Hits on TVN is reporting that BOR, Rachel Maddow, and On The Record are the highest rated programs on cable for the beginning of June.
The list also includes The Daily Show which is in the top ten.
So where does that leave 360?
No, breaking news to cover?
No top ten placement.
It is interesting to note that all four of these shows, do not enourage interaction or do they promote the use of twitter.
Twitter does not translate into ratings.
And advertisers are slowly moving alway from the 18-49 category.
Why? In this recession plagued economy they are NOT the group with the money.
Unfortunately, they are the group looking for jobs.

Demos is how all of the networks make money.
360 is one of the most lucrative cable news shows.
Nielsen is changing the ratings system because
even they admit it is ancient. Even Fox news is
saying if it does not get better online traction
and better social media they are in trouble. Only
Yahoo tops CNN on the web. Which do you think
advertisers like more the 2 million on FNC or the
20 million plus that CNN gets on the web on a
daily basis. CNN & MSNBC are in the game due
to those FNC demos. They are older viewers
who are set in their ways. Even Glenn Beck
says the audience is too old.It is moving more
towards new media. It is beyond television.
Multiplatform is essential. The worlds biggest
companies are not going heavy towards social
media and these same companies want to
hire people with those skills. If you can
operate a website, FB & Twitter. FNC might
have viewers but that does not make their
shows the most lucrative. Beck got ratings
but the show is not profitable since advertisers
avoid the show.

When is Anthony Weiner going to pack it in and resign??
He has become an albatross around the neck of the Democrats and he can no longer do his job effectively, even if he takes a leave of absence.
So why wait and make things more difficult.
In time, he might be able to come into the fold, like Eliot Spitzer, but, Eliot did it with one.
He is a Saint compared to Weiner who had multiple women.
No, there was no actual physical sex, however, it is obvious that age did not matter to him.
In Delaware he had the audacity to make lewd comments to a minor and his mind certainly wasn't on making things better for his constituency.
For now, he might as well accept his fate. He alone was at fault and now he's a joke.
