DR SANJAY GUPTA REPORTS: THE LAST HEART ATTACK – Airs Saturday 2:00AM – 3:00AM
CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta investigates whether diet and modern medicine are enough to prevent every heart attack -- and if living a healthier lifestyle could save more than 100,000 lives every year in the U.S. alone. Dr. Gupta interviews former President Bill Clinton, who credits his vegan diet with his improved heart disease, and doctors researching the latest treatments. Dr. Gupta also puts his own heart under the microscope as to offer practical advice and hard science to show how healthy living could reduce heart disease. Includes interviews with Dr. Dean Ornish and Dr. Arthur Agatston (author of The South Beach Diet), for insights on how diet impacts heart disease – and how heart disease may be reversible with better nutrition.

GERRY-RIGGED: WHY YOUR VOTE FOR CONGRESS MIGHT NOT MATTER – Airs Saturday 8:00PM – 9:00PM, 11:00PM and Sunday 2:00AM
In the last decade, almost 4 out of every 5 seats in Congress remained in the same party’s hands. The consequence is gridlock with little reason for compromise on either side as long as voters have no realistic say on who stays in office. CNN investigative correspondent Drew Griffin describes how political parties engage in “gerrymandering,” drawing odd-shaped districts – with voters from one party or the other, essentially designed to retain incumbents. Redistricting happens once a decade—this is the year. Will the system change? Probably not. Who loses? Voters.

Hello, we are back with some data on the ratings.
These ratings are not etched in stone but they are
likely close to the final tally.

At 8, 360 is averaging 651,000/196,000, ED is
averaging 938,000/200,000. BOR is the run away
champ averaging 3,039,000/657,000.

Our take : 360 is competitive in the demo with
MSNBC but they have to find a way to draw more
viewers to 360. ED is tougher than TLW.

At 10, 360 is averaging 682,000/226,000. TLW
is averaging 875,000/232,000 Greta gets
1,667,000/351,000. If CNN or MSNBC finds a
way to get closer to 300,000 in the demo that
would be some trouble for FOX. Needless to
say this is the top prime time show for CNN.
Greta usually does much better.

At 9, PMT is averaging 636,000/160,000. TRMS
is averaging 985,000/267,000. Hannity comes
in with 2,092,000/497,000. CNN is falling back
from the pack, down by more than 100,000 in
the demo not good for CNN.MSNBC know this
hour is not a problem. Worst scenario would be
Rachel Maddow having more than 1 million
viewrs. She is only 15,000 shy of that goal.
Potential problem for 360, being Team 360
already has some obstacles.

Prime time, CNN is averaging 770,000/226,000.
MSNBC 909,000/231,000. FOX is way ahead
with 2,259,000/506,000. CNN is close in the
demo. Not sure how long this will continue.
MSNBC & FOX have continuity. In some ways
MSNBC might be solidifying with recent changes
to the lineup. Politics Nation, HardBall, Ed ,
Rachel & Lawrence hold pretty steady for MSNBC.

CNN can claim some success because 360 is
keeping the demo close.

We will post some additional numbers next.

This is the other half of the data we previously
posted.

At 5, TSR is averaging 664,000/152,000. The 5
is averaging 1,644,000/374,000. HardBall has
836,000/165,000.

Our take : Wolf is competitive in the demo. He
is the only competitive show other than 360 for
CNN. Also, makes us wonder what is going on
at 3 & 4 PM.

At 6, JK,USA is averaging 525,000/126,000. Rev
Al is averaging 773,000/171,000. Special Rpt
is averaging 2,088,000/440,000. Yes it is true.
Sharpton has more viewers than 360. It goes
back to continuity The ratings for CNN go down
for 2 hours after TSR. Rev Al is benefiting from
both hours of HardBall.

At 7, Erin Burnett is averaging 483,000 with
143,000. HardBall has 846,000/187,000. Fox
Rpt is averaging 1,910,000/458,000.

OutFront actually goes down form John King
but likely gets a bump from 360. We think
CNN might be losing some viewers to MSNBC,
thus ED gets a bump.

Our take CNN has to be concerned about Erin
Burnett. Granted it is a new show but so far
viewers are just not feeling the show.

CNN has to fix their problems at 6 & 7 before
it drags down prime time. What the heck is
Outfront ? Is this really the best CNN could do
after months of putting together a show ? CNN
had better be thinking about post Piers Morgan
as well. PMT is the most heavily promoted show
on CNN. Viewers know he's there but they just
don't care. CNN will eventually have to make
decisions about JK,USA, OutFront & PMT. Will
CNN try to revamp the shows or drop them ?

CNN needs a bette lineup with continuity.
Definitely fix the content and pace as well.

We all know that every network will put their
very own spin on the ratings. We hope the
numbers we shared keeps it real.

Stay tuned. December will decide Q4 for
CNN. Will they finish the quarter ahead of
MSNNBC ? We'll find out in about 5 weeks.

It seems it comes down to this week. for 360.
Anderson & Team 360 seem to be rescuing
CNN in prime time. IMHO if 360 brings back
the cool bump music, they get those demos
up and easily top ED and TLW. I still believe
that 360 should have a kick butt opening
trailer of the stories and guests coming up
on the show. Have these trailers during the
entire hour. There is so much cool music out
there that 360 could use. You can make the
news trailers available along with a list of
songs featured on 360. People will download
news trailers and music and they could go
viral easily. Also, find cool songs each night
for Isha Sesay when she does the bulletin and
teases for 360, IMHO that is 1 way for 360
to go beyond 300,000 in the demo. Music is
the universal language. How many times have
you heard a song on a television show or
movie and try to track down the song ?

Just this morning MSNBC had this cool news
trailer for Morning Joe. The song used is the
classic Dance To THe Music by Sly Stone.360
can easily make the news cool again. You have
Anderson, Isha & Team 360.

360 was the first news show to use music to
enhance the news. Jim Walton killed the music
on 360. Walton has never really been a 360 fan.
Ironically, he had to eat crow and go with 360 at
8 & 10 PM.

It would have to be 2 different versions of 360.
Gotta have different songs for each hour of 360.
Morning Joe just picked up where 360 blew it.
Music is very much a part of MJ. The show would
not work without it. That MJ video is making the
rounds. It is called viral marketing and MSNBC
nailed it. The editing is awesome. Isha is live
at 10 so all you have to do is pick a song to
play in the background. I can loop Drake's
Headlines and easily make it news music. 360
could get away with modern music.

I would love to see the music return to 360.
All you have to do is to edit 2 versions of the
video and edit to the beats of all of the songs.

Meanwhile on CNN you get boring Piers Morgan
promos. CNN would never be that risky or creative.
CNN keeps going with tired old formulas from the
past. There is so much good music out there. No
shortage of good songs for 360 to play for the hr.
CNN could play music all day long. Have music from
all genres. You could have your Drake or the Black
Keys. There is no limit to music and you would
never have to use the same songs each day so it
would never get boring or too predictable. Make
it worth your viewers time. I guess the Clash was
too radical for management. Remember the Nth
Degree with Radio Clash. It was sad the day the
music died on 360.

It only works if you have the personalities who
can pull this off. Anderson Cooper & Isha Sesay
could make it work. Let the staff contribute as
well. They should never have bored down 360.
ED does seem to skew older. Anderson is close
in the demo with fewer viewers. Same thing
goes for TLW. If 360 gets better demos than
Rachel Maddow, MSNBC can't top CNN in the
demo. MSNBC does not have music in prime
time. Maybe it could lift 360.

Great ad for Morning Joe. It really is no surprise.
When you look at the ratings according to TV BY
THE NUMBERS, Joe is growing. American Morning
is sinking big time. If Morning Joe gets to 500,000
viewers or more CNN will fall farther behind. Joe
is gearing up for December. MSNBC has ads for all
of their shows. Let's be honest the ads for CNN are
horrible. I wonder who is the production company
behind the ad for Morning Joe. I am willing to bet
it is some big time director. That's a lot of work.
Any show CNN comes up with in the morning is
going to be way behind Joe. CNN waited too late.
Count on sequels for this ad in 2012.

Everyone is talking about 360 doing this and that.
IF THE ANCHOR is no longer INTERESTED in doing serious news people, 360 can not improve.
It is that simple.
His day audience would like him to be more serious from the questions they ask him.
But HE, doesn't get it.
He wants to be someone he's not.
So he has a light-hearted side.
We get that.
But we don't want to see it...at least from his ratings.
That has to sink in before anything else happens on 360.

360 is CNN's top rated show. It is the least of
CNN's worries. Anderson's daytime show has
already been renewed for season 2. There are
some nights when 360 could be better and it
should be better. Content, more stories, book
better guests, faster pace. Anderson was off
last week so the ratings will be lower. I do
miss Floods. You knew when you heard the
bass it was time for 360.

CNN is falling way behind. The British Embassy
in Iran is being stormed by protestors. Morning
Joe just mentioned this. It is all over Twitter &
Face Book. Joe interrupted an interview with
Russell Simmons. C'mon tell that CNN has a
team that monitors social media for news.

CNN is not mentioning this at all.BBC is all over
this as well. CNN is going downhill fast.

Oh I forget. Bring back Floods at the top of the
show. It does get your attention. Also, to tighten
time. 360 should have a graphic made if there
is a trio of people coming on to talk about a
topic. For example, just do a a frame grab of
John King, Gloria Bolger & Joe Joes. Turn it into
a graphic with their last names over the pics
of all of them. Anderson says joining us is
_______, ______ & blank. The intro is done much
quicker and you get right into the conversation.
Please , no more of those promotional pics.
Do the same thing with the Syracuse panel.

I don't think AC is doing justice to either of his shows. 360 is sometimes just plain awful and I turn it off or switch to Ed. There are major stories that are being ignored, too many pundits, and too much attention paid to ridiculous stories that only merit a brief mention. This isn't journalism--it is laziness.

Colbert talked about the layoffs at CNN and
mocked them for it. It is not a smart move for
CNN to mess up it's news gathering. CNN is
nowhere near being the world's news leader.
You can't believe the news or promos.

Anonymous said...

360 missed the obvious with Herman Cain who
clearly had an unusual situation in TSR. That's
the beauty of the situation for CNN. You never
know what news will happen. Rumors say that
Cain is reconsidering his campaign. No doubts
about the 360 lead story for today. Wolf is the
man ,that was a priceless TV moment. Cain was
so desperate that he broke the news on TSR to
Wolf Blitzer. The phone/text records made it
hard to deny this. 4 AM in the morning and it
is not a family member. I just hope that Dr
Conrad Murray is not the lead.

How can CNN miss the Iranian students story ?
I think there is some sort of power struggle in the
country. Something is going on. This happening
with VP Biden right next door in Iraq. The passion
for the news is missing from CNN.

Say what you will about MSNBC at least they are
fearless. CNN is too afraid to be edgy or fresh with
the news.

Anonymous said...

12:18AM:
Please wake up.
Your friend Anderson has lost his passion for the news.
Please face this fact.
CNN might seriously have to find its way without him.
Just speculation on my part....but it is true.
He is slowly phasing himself out of the news biz.
