A FAREED ZAKARIA GPS SPECIAL: RESTORING THE AMERICAN DREAM – FIXING EDUCATION – Airs Sunday 8:00PM – 9:00PM and 11:00PM
American primary and secondary education were once envied by much of the world, but over the last few decades U.S. students have fallen behind – while students in other countries have benefitted from improvements to their educational systems. CNN and TIME magazine’s Fareed Zakaria interviews innovative and creative leaders working on solutions to fix what ails American education. Zakaria guides viewers through tours of what is working in education in countries with high rankings – to South Korea where students have more classroom time; and Finland, where professionalization of the teacher workforce has improved educators – in order to mine ideas for what could put U.S. education back on the right track. Featured in the special are: Microsoft founder and education philanthropist Bill Gates, founder of the online Khan Academy Salman Khan, NYU Professor, former Assistant U.S. Secretary of Education, and author (The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education, 2010) Diane Ravitch, and Michelle Rhee, former chancellor of D.C. Public Schools, who now leads StudentsFirst.

Well, there certainly is much drama at CNN these
days. New month, new ratings , the first month
of new lineups going head to head for MSNBC &
CNN. Here's the data we ran for Mon-Thurs. We
used TV BY THE NUMBERS & TV NEWSER for data.
360 is averaging 671,000/175,000 at 8
ED is averaging 1,021,000/214,000 at 8
BOR is averaging 3,363,000/742,000 at 8
We think the increase in ratings for ED has
to do with MSNBC growing daytime numbers.
Lead ins matter. It could mean that viewers
are coming to MSNBC earlier and just leaving
the channel where it is. CNN might have waited
too late to do something about AM. So far this
week MSNBC is averaging a little over 500,000
viewers dayside. There is no way to sugarcoat
this : Hardball & Politics Nation are mopping
the floor with CNN when it comes to viewers
and demo numbers. Somehow despite having
a 350,000 viewer deficit 360 is only trailing
by 39,000 in the demo. Can 360 at least pull
off a demo win against ED ? We will find out
in 3 weeks.
360 is growing but it can't grow fast enough.
Get 360 some help now. Anderson Cooper can
hang close in the demos but viewers are a
situation they have to work on. 360 is still
CNN's most popular show.
PMT is averaging 606,000/146,000
TRMS is averaging 1,043,000/271,000
Hannity is averaging 2,275,000/530,000
The roller coaster ride is not good news for
CNN. Where are those viewers going after
the 1st edition of 360 ? What is happening
with Rachel & ED holding on to MSNBC''s
viewers ? MSNBC is now in the million
viewer range. Distance. MSNBC has more
than 1 show that is competitive. FNC &
MSNBC''s shows flow smoothly. At this point
it is clear, Rachel Maddow can set her sights
on Hanity
360 is averaging 663,000/204,000 at 10
TLW is averaging 918,000/244,000
OTR is averaging 1,886,000/402,000
360 is getting the top demo for CNN at 10.
That could mean that Anderson Cooper has
some very loyal viewers Can he expand ?
We hope so for CNN's sake.
MSNBC's prime time numbers this week have
to be a major concern for CNN. Your move
CNN . Stay tuned.
