CNN did a great job with their Illinois primary coverage on Tuesday, incorporating it with their regularly scheduled prime time shows, while having Wolf Blitzer and John King in Washington. This is how the coverage should be for the remaining states, this way other big news can be spoken about as well, like Syria or the Mexico earthquake and not broadcasted from The Election Center at the Atlanta studio (which wasn't shown once during the Illinois primary). The studio needs to revert back to normal and not be used as the Election Center until the Election actually nears in November. Although it is fun at times, it's pointless to focus on one state for 10 hours just because they are broadcasting from a renamed studio. The Illinois coverage was good because it wasn't from The Election Center. Am I making sense? Once the Democratic convention ends in September (Republican in August), CNN will unveil a brand new studio in Washington that will be used for The Situation Room and will appropriately be home for the new Election Center. Jon Stewart is correct when showing how CNN is over doing their primary coverage. Too statistical. There are bigger things in the news to talk about rather than having corespondents speculating who will win certain counties of certain states.

It is highly inappropriate for CNN to overuse the BREAKING NEWS banner. They used it for when the polls in Illinois closed, for when exit polls were released, for when it seemed like Mitt Romney had the lead, AND for the actual projection. It should NOT have been used at all! It was nothing major, it was expected, and it wasn't breaking into planned programing. CNN should have appropriately used JUST IN. CNN should just be renamed BNCNN considering I see it more than anything.

CNN needs a complete makeover. Change the logo to a simple white lettered CNN in a red square like what is used for the Marketplace Middle East program logo. Change the graphics! Too small! Please capitalize all letters. Go with the simple gray like CNN International. Don't label everything as breaking news. Considering its been over done, go with something new like News Flash or News Alert or just an extended new banner Breaking News Alert. Change the show titles. Change "CNN Newsroom" to "The News" on CNN, considering the Atlanta studio doesn't even look like a newsroom. Bring back CNN Daybreak since the current morning shows aren't working. It worked for CBS. Cancel Erin Burnet OutFront, John King USA and Piers Morgan Tonight. They aren't working. Zoraida Sambolin is too boring as an anchor and so is Suzanne Malveaux, who was better as a political correspondent. Not sure why the prime time programs have to have the anchors names. Change Anderson Cooper 360° to simply CNN360°. State of the Union and The Situation Room should be renamed. They are basicslly stolen titles. It would be better if TSR was renamed The CNN Command Center. I could go on and on. CNN needs a passionate leader unlike their current one.

Have The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer become the lead in for Anderson Cooper 360°. When Rick Sanchez was on a few years ago, T.S.R. was the lead in for the 8PM hour airing from 5-8PM. Three hours of Wolf in the late afternoon/early evening was great!

CNN needs to get rid of the political pundits but keep the classic, great contributors. Republican wise, I'm talking about Gloria Borger and Mary Matalin. For the Democrats, David Gergen, Donna Brazile and James Carville. People like Will Cain and Roland Martin are just annoying because they are trying too hard.

CNN has only two star anchors -Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer. John King, Erin Burnett and Soledad O'Brien should not be anchors, but should be used in other ways. They are outstanding correspondents. There is nothing wrong with that. That is an excellent idea to test Isha out. CNN needs to get rid of people who add nothing to the channel like Christine Romans, Don Lemon, and Carol Costello. New talent is needed.

Suzanne Malveaux is just fine anchoring on CNN.
This is a network with Erin Burnett, Piers Morgan,
Christine Romans, Carol Costello and Jack Cafferty
and these people make them boring. Many think
Wolf Biltzer is bland and dull. That's the problem
with CNN. They are not making changes for the
morning, Out Front, John King & Piers Morgan.
CNN should make the TSR what it was intended to
be old/new media. The show is moving backwards.
He has a grumpy old man and a Lou Dobbs fan
with Lisa Sylvester who ranted on immigration.
Like we are suppose to forget her role on Lou
Dobbs. CNN always goes down the wrong road
but then tries erase it like it never happened.
After torturing viewers with the worst AM team
ever, they let 2 of them anchor. 1 who is now on
for 2 hours. If viewers didn't like the trio what
makes CNN think they would watch them solo.
CNN sank Starting Point & John King by just
having a palling around with pundits show.
I have friends with parents in their 60's who
say they are tired of the pundits too. Viewers
are being ripped off. These channels are being
classified as news and information and we all
know this is not true. Where is a live 24/7 news
channel that I am paying for. They should not
be a part of basic cable. Replace them all with
real news channels. If they can offer 12 religious
channels, why the shortage of news choices ?
I get the feeling that very little thought goes
into the decisions made by management.

MSNBC would have developed Isha Sesay way
back Try Isha Sesay from April until August
right before 360. That way she can still do
the 360 Bulletin. See if she finds an audience.
By June viewership will drop and viewers might
come back in the fall.

Do something that is unique and fits her. CNN
is doing the same thing with Erin Burnett that
they did with Campbell Brown and Paula Zahn
Nothing new, nothing different. Dump the
Out Front name and format. At the same time
find brand new shows. Maybe Aisha Tyler in
the morning but surround her with journalists.
She can discuss news. She does it on the Talk.
Strombo and Mark Kelley from CBC would be
welcome additions to CNN Connect With Mark
Kelley would be a great 6 PM show for CNN.
Strombo should have been the first choice to
succeed Larry King. Dude talked to Saul Williams.

The Situation Room opening theme is so awesome! Love it!

Does anyone know why they got rid of the 2
internet corespondents on Sit Room? If you
have a cool theme song, shouldn't the show
match up ? CNN has got to get away from 2
hours shows and pundits. I would like to see
Max Lugavere, Jason Silva, Jael Del Pardo,
Angelea Sun, Conor Knighton, Derrick Shore,
Brett Erlich, Rawley Valverde, Doug Cabellero
and the entire Vanguard Team from Current.
Current let these people go and the network
is not original anymore.

CNN does need to modernize. Besides it is
painfully apparent that CNN needs talent who
can offer content and create programming.
CNN digital has a great magazine for their
modern slavery doc. It is awesome , so why
can't CNN be as innovative.

Let me start this by saying I like Anderson Cooper which is why I even bother watching his show at times, but to say he's a star anchor is not right. He may be a star anchor on CNN, but compare him to other anchors on other cable networks and he doesn't come close. He constantly stumbles over his words, mispronounces words and at times seems like he really doesn't know the info he should to be conducting an interview. He was interviewing Zimmerman's lawyer the other night and his question was so convoluted and rambling that the lawyer had to ask him what the question was..and I was wondering the same thing. If as an adult you can't figure out how to pronounce Manhattan and you live there, you need speech therapy.

CNN needs to do something about screen clutter.
There is too much junk. Keep it clean and simple.
Anderson Cooper is the star anchor at CNN. 360
is networks highest rated show.An anchor that is
too perfect is overcoached and lacks realness.
That means they are thinking and not just reading
the scripts.

I really, really miss field reporting from Anderson Cooper. He hasn't left the country since he went to Egypt one year ago to cover the Arab Spring. He did go to London recently to interview Adele, but that was for 60 Minutes.

CNN has lost me as a viewer. I blocked the
channel. It was irresponsible for Don Lemon
to have a segment with pundits on the killing
of Trayvon Martin. This is not pundits fodder.
A teen is dead. This is not a circus. CNN &
Don Lemon need to understand that the
public does not behave like media morons.
CNN has become a national disgrace. Will
Cain's ignorance is only surpassed by CNN
who hired him. This is a very serious matter.
Life and death matters are not funny.

@10:43PM: I watched the interview and agree with you. I like and enjoy Don Lemon, but this seemed to be very uncomfortable. I CANNOT stand Will Cain. He is trying too hard, almost as if he is trying to get his own show, which makes him look fake, stupid, and highly annoying. You can tell him the sky is blue and he would try to explain that it's green. CNN PLEASE GET RID OF WILL CAIN! I understand that this was a violence discussion but I was hoping LZ would punch him. Anyone who watched the interview would know what I mean.

Anonymous said...

Will Cain told the truth about CNN. The network
pays him to come on to make outrageous
statements . In other words, it is an act . Why
can't CNN understand that the news is not about
them. Their job is to report not have people come
on CNN to distract and misinform viewers. That
is why CNN is 3rd. CNN is completely fake. CNN's
ratings will continue to fall. What is so funny
about an unarmed child being killed. CNN pays
people to act the fool. What does that have to
do with quality journalism. Where is the adult
conversation. I lost all respect for Don Lemon
and CNN. That was wrong.

Just move from Germany to Unit States. Happy to be living hear but dont like this version cnn. I like the international one with smart people like Rose Hala Colleen.
Dont understand why there is so much talking about the stories that not important. Unit states is a very important country in world but this version of cnn makes unit States seem not so important. Maybe it my culture differnce

I would love to watch news on Saturday or Sunday night, but I just can not stand Don Lemon. He really belongs on a show like Entertainment Tonight. I would also like to say that Randi Kaye is doing an excellent job on weekend mornings.

It just makes you wonder what is going on with
CNN. Can any channel be more out of touch ?
I'm so happy that they are last. Jon Stewart says
it best the are terrible. CNN is not winning any
viewers or respect.

Anonymous said...

CNN is filed with hate and ignorance. It took you
this long to stop watching ? The media is out of
control and cable news has been in the gutter for
years and it is not getting better.

Anonymous said...

@10:37 a.m. Completely agree. Anderson Cooper has talent---in the field and as a writer. But as an anchor? No. He often cannot read the teleprompter, and his questionning is convoluted at times, and sometimes simplistic and lacking direction. I get the impression that he is not interested at times as well. To say that an anchor from a third place cable news show is a star is over-reaching. He would be more of a star if he were back in the field doing the type of journalism he used to do.

Anonymous said...

I too shuttered a bit when I read the comment about Anderson Cooper being a star.
His "star" shone brightly a couple of years ago, but now, with his talkfest, it does seem as though he is totally out of it on 360, and has been for some time.
I've been saying this right along.
He needs to go back in the field or leave the news to someone who is up and coming and deserves the chance he threw away.
Right as rain 10:37 and others.

I cannot stand Carol Costello - Get rid of her and her annoying cackling. She is the worse "reporter" I have ever heard. If CNN doesn't remove her they will surely lose more viewers. I've already switched to MSNBC when Costello is on.
