CNN would be better off if they let Anderson anchor from about 6pm to midnight. Piers and Erin are a joke.
Agree 100 %. After what the NY Post did to the 17 year old track star, there is a reason why the kids are not very trusting of the media. Nobody wants to be labeled as being sympathetic to terrorists, I would rather see Jake Tapper or Chris Cuomo instead of Piers Morgan. He is in way over his head and it shows. He is horrible. CNN he should not be doing breaking news on your network. It makes CNN look less serious. I turn from CNN at 7 & 9 PM.
I'll start a petition to get Anderson cloned and have him on 24/7. Because in all seriousness, that is what most CNN viewers truely want. Maybe that with a sprinkle of the journalists who are good as well but for some reason don't get much airtime while certain people get to torture us for hours.
If that does not work then Anderson should just take Christiane, Isha, Sanjay and maybe Wolf with him and start his own network that sticks to his journalistic principles.
Maybe take John King with him as well. Simply because I kind of suspect that Zucker has created a lot of pressure on the reporters to produce a big scoop and he usually wasn't the kind to mess up that badly in the past.
If Boston's bombing suspect lives, he deserves the death penalty.
I know his lawyer will probably say he was the "fall guy" for big brother who influenced him, but if anyone deserves death, it is this suspect.
And yet there are those states who, like Maryland, have denounced the death penalty in favor of a mandatory life sentence. Why?
I'm sorry. There used to be public hangings in a very public square for all to see and there was a reason.
The reason was: Civilized people don't do certain things in a civilized society and get away with it and some jury, that's not too bright will in fact, not think that this particular "suspect" deserves to be put to death.
Good thing I'm not on that jury.
I was so happy to see Anderson yesterday afternoon. He just lights up the screen. I know everyone has their favorite anchor and Anderson is definitely mine. I really hope he does not go to the Today Show.
Tapper and Berman horrible.Soledad was flawless in her coverage -- Anderson and Wolf did a great job. Erin Burnette was descent . Brook Baldwin (out of her league) .
Deb Feyrick,Drew Griffen, Candiotti,Jason Carol, Chris Lawrence, all did good job
Jogn King besdies botching the we captured someone far to premature his coverage is good
Tapper I am a huge RED Sox fan but weather the game is/was cancelled is IRRELEVANT . You are a NEWS journalist not a POP correspondent - if thats what u want go work for E.
Anon 12:39 AM:
Actually civilized countries have all denounced the death penality, many more than half a century ago. What you are describing is just primitive and barbaric lust for revenge and seeing someone die. Yuck.
No wonder the USA has the highest homicide/murder rates of the western world if many states still suggest to the citizens that violence and revenge should be part of a justice system.
I'm glad Maryland has taken a more civilized turn. A life in prison, having to deal with what he has done every day, is a worse punishment than being killed by the state. As if another gruesome death would make things better for the people who lost loved ones or were injured.
Yes I did miss Soledad O'Brien. She is an excellent reporter. Jake Tapper aways seemed so bored to me. Brooke Baldwin and Don Lemon weren't very good either.
Yes, I also missed Soledad, she would have been great. Burnett was useless - she was good to the extend she didn't do anything. She always needed help. Why was Wolf with her during her show yesterday? Tapper was good but he does have a tendency to be dry. Anderson, showed once again why he IS the star of CNN. I thought Berman was alright. Baldwin was like Burnett - way in over their head (as usual). Too bad Soledad wasn't there - she is great at these things. Overall , CNN had too many screwups - bad information, stupid questions, and they stole CBS's exclusive interview with the killers' uncle.
I agree with trampadoo on the death penalty and anon 8:34 on Anderson.
The woman who was with the CNN team throughout the coverage in Boston (I can't remember her name) but she was a brunette a former official in the government or something was better than some of the reporters. She kept trying to steer the anchors away from speculation and from jumping to conclusions by explaining what the steps the FBI/Boston Police were taking most likely meant and she was right most of the time.
Well I just hope with that mess over, they all get some well deserved rest! I think CNN was on live longer than any other network I applaud them for being on so long. Of course that applies to all the officers and government officials. Its been a trying week to say the least but I LOVED my CNN team! Well done guys!
The USA has the largest homicide/murder rate because of the gun lobby.
Not because of the death penalty.
Please do not confuse the two with that ridiculous statement.
Public hangings were part of our history, OUR HISTORY and they were for the purpose of exposing evil.
The only reason this 'suspect' is being kept alive, is for information. Perhaps he should be comforted by all the people he has maimed who have lost their limbs, or better yet, we can keep him alive to remind us never to be complacent again.
@8:34AM: You do not have to worry.
The NYT Magazine section had a full story on Matt Lauer and The Today Show and they didn't mention Anderson once.
And the mornings it seems is where ALL the advertising dollars are, at least in broadcast. Cable maybe not.
First of all, this blog is about CNN, not politics. Furthermore it definitely isn't a debate forum on the death penalty. Finally, you guys are getting way ahead of yourself talking about sentencing this kid when we don't even have the whole story. Still many conflicting reports of what happened and why. Not to mention that he hasn't even gone to trial or gotten a lawyer. So, keep your pants on!!
You guys might be on to something. The only reason CNN beats MSNBC on breaking news outside of politics is because CNN is viewed as the network with journalists. It boggles the mind why CNN is running promos for PMT and not Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer. According to TVN ,one day during the breaking news all week, PIers Morgan dropped below a million vielwers. On a big news story like this, that should never happen. It's also likely that is the reason CNN could not beat FOX in prime time with a couple exceptions. Go with Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer on the big breaking news stories like this in prime time. It's not like CNN viewers are going to all of a sudden start warming up to Piers Morgan CNN, the viewers don't care for PMT.
Check out Hollywood Deadline. It was a split decision on Friday for CNN & FNC. Fox won total viewers but CNN bested Fox in the demo. The demos are mind-blowing. You have to wonder if Wolf Bilitzer was on at 7 PM would that had given CNN the advantage. Can't wait to see the full chart. CNN likely had higher ratings for 360 but were lower at 7 & 9 PM.
@10:02 PM:
And the states that ditched the death penalty usually see a reduction in homicide. :)
Public hanging, decapitation, burning etc. of the guilty and innocent has been a part of ALL now civilized western countries. Not sure why you think just because it is part of history this should be continued.
Anyway, White House just said he won't be put on trial as an enemy combatant so you'll have to stick fantasies about killing him.
@8:07 AM:
This is something that puzzles me as well. You see all kinds of ads and previews for CNN shows but their top journos who get the by far best ratings are almost nonexistant there.
The only explanation I can think of is that Zucker thinks Anderson and Wolf don't need extra advertising because they are doing well on their own while Piers is constantly struggling.
There seems to be some kind of learning resistence however. I don't get why the network keeps having Piers report on breaking news. People are basically like, oh, it's Piers Morgan now? I'll be back in one hour when AC360 is on again.
Or maybe Zucker is actively trying to reduce that Anderson Cooper = CNN effect and tries to put more focus on other reporters? Not working, though.
No we'll stick to "fantasies" about killing him in prison like Gitmo.
Don't think for one minute his life is going to be easy because the death penalty is not sought.
He will be in maximum security costing the tax payer plenty and only because his lovely inmates will not be, shall we say gentlemen.
And just because he is being tried at the federal level does not mean the death penalty will not be sought. It has been before.
@1:12
Piers Morgan's EP, Jonathan Wald, is a pushy person. I'd use worse language to describe him, but I will be polite instead. Let's just say he's not a warm and friendly guy.
More ads for PMT is also a result of Wald's and Morgan's pushing internally for more advertising.
Of course that is part of their job, self-promoting the show, but Wald does it more than other EP's.
If you think there is some big master plan afoot at CNN, well, I don't believe there is.
"all the states that ditch the death penalty see a reduction of homicide."
Really. Name them.
New York, which is a state here in the US, saw a reduction of homicide because it just passed a very strict gun control law as did NYC because of Mayor Bloomberg.
GUN CONTROL is what controls homicides, NOT the death penalty.
For some reason, you seem to have totally confused the two, just to make your case, which is totally invalid.
One good thing has come of last weeks tragedy, according to Huffpost, the TSA is Delaying their never popular, "take your knife on board policy," indefinitely.
Gee, I wonder why?
Maybe last week had some kind of impact that this really wasn't such a great idea after all.
Did they really think America was ready for fun and games in the sky again or was this all part of their, complacency theory, until of course the Boston Marathon proved them wrong.
I realize this statement is very broad, and it does not apply to many good parents, who do an honest days work and then arrive home to tend to, and care for their children, BUT, behind every bad child, there stands a really bad parent, or one that did really poor parenting, like Adam Lanza's mother.
Mommy didn't know that Adam had problems so she sought target practice and gave him a very large check for a new weapon of choice for Christmas, that he happened to use, on her. Duh.
Here again, Russian Mommy is in denial and the blood on the boat is paint, right, and her sons are being persecuted because they did "nothing and are Muslim."
But it seems Mommy allegedly 'steals', so the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
In both cases there was NO ROLE MODEL, parenting, and we're not talking minors in both cases.
They may be different cultures, but they are....similar.
